I was in town for a weekend and I ate lunch here twice because I liked it so much.
The location is up a flight of stairs but you can take an elevator. It is right in the center of the hustle of Pike Place and since the restaurant is elevated from the ground floor you can have a nice view of the water if you are seated near the window.
The restaurant has an open kitchen and many tables will allow you to watch food being prepared which is interesting. However both times I dined there I thought the grill got a bit smoky and it was a bit hard to breathe inside and I needed to cough from the smokiness so not amazing.
The food was good. My favorite was the falafel as there were a variety of veggies that came with it. I also had the fishwich. The bread and side salad were incredible on that. My dining partner got a salad as a main and it looked incredible with many generous sides— bacon, avocado, blue cheese, deviled eggs (which I don’t generally love, but I did appreciate the artisan vibe they came with.
The views, the food, the environment - I loved it all! For starters, the view from the windows at lunch were amazing. You could not ask for better! Secondly, the oysters were the best I’ve ever had in my life! The deviled eggs were fine, nothing special, but the service was great and we had a wonderful time.
Everyone’s heard of cat in the hat, but more people should know about Matt’s in the Market. If you’re still deciding where to dine for lunch/dinner and Matt’s is in your consideration set, just go to Matt’s. The food has always been fresh, tasty, and filling. Their seafood is top notch and rest assured, they have yummy non-seafood options for your friends who prefer land protein. I’ve had the salads, seafood stew, salmon, steak, and lamb burger. All were certified hitters. Oh, and their bread pudding with vanilla ice cream is godly. Highly recommend you finish your meal with that. Don’t deprive yourself of it.
The awesome service quality is another plus to this restaurant. The staff have been kind and courteous each time I’ve visited. It helps make you feel right at home, like you’re a 90’s sitcom visiting your same restaurant/coffee spot.
This place does get busy (others love it too, what a surprise). Try making reservations or calling ahead to see if there is a wait. I’ve been lucky to walk in a few times with no more than a 10-15 minute wait.
Great for lunch, dinner, date night, celebration, small groups.
The only unfortunate thing about our meal was that due to sampling treats at Pike Place Market all day, we weren’t hungry enough for a full dinner! The carpaccio was excellent. Tender beef, perfectly complimented with arugula and an expertly soft poached egg! The grilled octopus is what we went for and it did not disappoint! Deliciously grilled, tender octopus which was accompanied by lovely tomato, cucumber, jalapeño salad with mild hummus. The only dish that wasn’t amazing was the oysters. They were inordinately tiny and was lacking. The service was friendly, competent, and efficient. Definitely recommend!
Recommended by a friend and so grateful! Went here during the weekend (busy and lively) they accept walk-ins, but you would secure a tablet by reserving one ahead of time. CUTE and delicious 😋 the view of the market is unbeatable and the food is fresh and generous portions! You can substitute anything out and the service is impeccable! Difficult to find, but totally worth the confusion!
We have previously had lunch many times and it’s been consistently great. This was our first dinner experience and it was equally amazing! The scallops and salmon were delicious. Cocktails were very tasty as well.
This was by far one of my favorite restaurants on my visit to Seattle. The fishwich was the most amazing fish sandwich I’ve ever had in my life! I got the curry cauliflower soup for my side which was amazing as well. The deviled eggs appetizer was super delicious and great if you like a variety as each egg has a different topping. The cocktails were great as well! I will definitely return on my next visit!
A fantastic place! You get a really great vibe, down-to-earth, friendly, yet tasteful and classy. The Blue Pool oysters are just ideal, on the briny side. Octopus (from Alaska) was perfectly cooked. The bartender was really outstanding and friendly. Not a cheap place, but we’ll worth the visit!
Feels like a special hideaway in plain sight. One of the pricier options near at the market but amazing and well worth it. $23 for the fish sandwich but it’s high quality halibut which isn’t cheap and very delicious. I did the cup of seafood chowder for $4 extra and had a beautiful glass of gruner veltliner. Dining solo I ate at the bar, bartender was great. Was able to get seated right away for lunch on Saturday but I got there at 1:30pm so maybe at the end of the rush but a beautiful Saturday nonetheless! Beautiful space, loved the open kitchen and the warmth of the space. Very much enjoyed my experience.
