Captain D's

Had a craving for some cold water fish with malt vinegar. Portion sizes were large. Had the sampler combo with two sides. Fish was delicious. Cole slaw was good and the corn 🌽 was hot. Restaurant to include restrooms were immaculate. Ate in, stuffed myself and left feeling like I had an overall great experience for a fast food joint.

EDIT: Today (Monday, July 26 2021), my husband and I went to Captain D's and bought an order to-go. A 2 pc chicken and 2 pc fish meal with fries and coleslaw. I have been eating at Captain D's since childhood. I am extremely fond of their food. But the last few times, I've been very disappointed, with this time being the worst. The Searcy location has gone downhill a little. The staff is typically polite and prompt, but the food has not been good. I hate to leave negative feedback, and only do so when I deem it absolutely necessary. I always eat their chicken tenders, because they're some of my favorite chicken tenders from any restaurant. But what I got today couldn't even be called chicken. It wasn't crispy, and the batter fell off. That has never happened before. It was mushy and not flavourful, tender, or juicy. The fries tasted old and stiff, even the cracklins tasted as if they were old and fried in old Grease. My husband said his fish was a bit tough. We aren't very happy with the meal we got from Captain D's today, nor have I been particularly pleased with the last few visits I've made to this location. I'm hoping to continue eating there in the future and be able to enjoy the same quality I'm used to from Captain D's in Searcy, but I'm very reluctant to spend money there again without knowing if it will be good or not. Again, I'm sorry to have to complain, I genuinely don't like to leave negative remarks, but I have to be honest. Below you will find my previous review from before the quality went down. I hope I can restore this review back to what it was previously, only leaving positive feedback. Hopefully this location improves before the next time we visit. I attached two photos of what my chicken looked like. I would have brought the meal back to show the staff on duty, but I live over 45 mins away in Des Arc, so by the time I got home and started eating it was too late. I'm changing my review to 2 stars for now. Captain D's Please! I give this place 4 stars because the food is consistently delicious, and the service is prompt. I've never had an issue with anything when eating there. One bit of criticism I have: why did Captain D's decide to switch from serving Coca-Cola products to serving Pepsi?! Coke goes so much better with their food, and Pepsi is just an inferior copy-cat cola recipe. This has really put a damper on my experience. I have resorted to bringing my own drink when I come to eat there. Other than the Coke/ Pepsi switcheroo, I have no complaints. The fish is always great, as well as the chicken. Both regular and premium side options are great. If you like this type of place, then this location will not disappoint. :)

There is occasionally that visit to a restaurant that stands out above the rest. I’m not sure if the management team was manning the fort or if this store is just a well oiled machine. From the minute I walked in the reception area was clean and inviting. The man with the headset that would normally be taking care of drive-through took my order because there was someone in front of me at the cash register. He did it quickly and I was paying with my credit card ,my food was up in the window before we finished the process. This means that the person on the line in the kitchen was listening so they can get a jump on the order. That was impressive. The food came out quick very very quick almost light speed. The food was hot, fresh and exactly what I ordered. I picked up my food and walked to the dining area and chose a booth. Made my drink and went to the restroom to wash my hands. The restroom was spotless and clean. The dining room was spotless and clean. Something else I love about Captain D’s is you can get your catch-up and condiments from a pump dispenser into a dish. I absolutely hate tearing open little packets of ketchup. At Captain D’s you don’t have to do that. I enjoyed my meal and left. I highly recommend Captain D’s of Searcy. I don’t eat fish every day, but when I do it will be Captain D’s seafood restaurant.

I ordered the 12pc Butterfly Shrimp Dinner with 2 sides, French Fries and Macaroni & Cheese. I was very impressed with the taste of the shrimp and the hush puppies! The hush puppies were PERFECT: light (not dense), perfectly cooked all the way thru & no big chunks of onion!! The macaroni & cheese was tasty & creamy. Unfortunately they were out of Key Lime Pie but the cheesecake was a good substitute. I'll be sure and order the 24 piece Shrimp dinner NEXT time so I'll have some leftover shrimp for a snack later!!
