Very friendly staff! Very clean and nice place. Chicken was very tasty, juicy and flavorful. We were there just before close on a Tuesday so the greens had probably been cooking for a bit, BUT very tasty, and yummy. Other sides we're great as well. Cabbage had a different twist, kind of sweet and with carrots. We ordered cornbread, but we got "Johnny cakes" (fried corn bread) good, just not what we were expecting. Give it a try!

I stumbled onto this place from my Office Manager at Investis Digital, she saw this on AZCENTRAL and I decided, Hey, let's check it out. It's a small cozy VERY Eclectic spot, nessided in the North Scottsdale area 14144 N 100th St, Scottsdale, AZ 85260. Walked into a VERY CLEAN restaurant with nice Tables, Chairs and Booths. I decided to sit at the Bar which also was VERY NICE! Bartender is the COOLEST, NICEST GUY EVER!!! I should have gotten his name. He slid a Menu my way as he poured me a Blue moon into the coldest look glass I've seen in a long time! After viewing the menu I order "The Big Daddy" 2 pieces of Fried Chicken, 1 Filet of Fish (Mine Fried Catfish) and 3 Sides. I choose Millionaire Mac N' Cheese, Brussel Sprouts & Collard Greens. Those Sides were nothing less than PHENOMENAL!!!!! Hot and Delicious and just slid down my throat! One Bite of the Fried Chicken took me back to Crowley Louisiana to my Grandma's Dinner Table....OMLG (Oh My Loving God!!!) Chicken like that is for every living soul who loves soul food. Then the Moist, PERFECTLY cooked Fried Catfish just Melted in my mouth. My Stomach was CHEERING me on and on and on!! I kept looking at the Menu just FANTASIZING about what the other menu items might taste like......I WAS IN THE HEAVEN OF HEAVENS!!!!!!!! If you LOVE SOUL FOOD then you GOTSTA get over here and have yourself the BEST SOUL FOOD IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN!!!!!!!!! Thank you to THE ROOT AND SOUL for making my day feel like I died and went to Heaven!!!

Jambalaya was on point!! Just as good if not better than my grandmas but dont tell her that. Best lunch I've had in a while. Also, Mac n cheese to die for I'm going to take a nap now that my belly is full and my heart happy.

Root and Soul has great potential. The food is amazing. My family and I tried the fried catfish, chicken fried steak, and fried chicken. All were really good (but Grandma's fried chicken (Grandma is Mrs. White) is still better.) Seems like they are still getting situated in this location and having to work through a few glitches. But overall, this is great soul food and reasonably priced.

Just tried this place for lunch and it was great. My husband and I were in and out very quick which is perfect for lunch hours. The food was on point and came out piping hot. My husband had the jambalaya and I had the shrimp po boy with a side of their mac and cheese. Bread was soft, shrimp cooked perfectly and seasoned well and not overly spicy. He said that his was really good as well. The server was friendly and gave some recommendations. This is a hidden treasure that we will be coming back to soon.

Tasty soulfood. I loved the catfish which can be ordered fried or grilled. Greens were tasty and not overly seasoned - the candied yams were a nice balance. Great peach cobbler that is yummy without being overly sweet. I will return again and again for more sampling of this menu in this small casual intimate environment.

While visiting Scottdale I went to this quaint place. It's very cozy and had a great ambience. I was there for a Sunday lunch with friends. I had the iced tea, tasted sweet like southern sweet tea. A friend had the peach margarita and she said it was very flavorful and strong. I had the jerk chicken jambalaya. It had chunks of shrimp, chicken, saugage, etc. It was full of flavor and I would order again. The only complaint is that it wasn't enough of it even with a side of tasty cornbread. Friends ordred the shrimp poy boy and the fisherman's choice with red beans, collard greens and Brussel sprouts. The po boy, fish and collars received two thumbs up. Not so much for the red beans and rice. Peach cobbler was the dessert and it was very good. Definitely a place to check out.

Everything is DELICIOUS! The catfish was on point and not everyone can fry catfish right. Fluffy waffles complimented with savory fried chicken! The Mac n Cheese is the best I've tried in town and I love the smoked turkey in the greens! You need to stop by if you haven't already! 5 stars and 2 thumbs up

Super, super tasty. The rock fish was beautifully and lightly breaded, cooked to a moist, flaky goodness. The red beans and rice were flavorful and not soupy. The hush puppies are firm and toasty. The catfish is clearly fresh and seasoned expertly. Real sweet tea. And an onsite, enthusiast, friendly owner. A real find of a restaurant.
