Last night was our first time. We had reservations at 7:30. They were filled and none of their guests showed signs of leaving. They seated us outside which did not make me very happy. They set up a heater which was not enough for me. The owner, Paul, felt badly especially since another heater was not working. After about 10 minutes, a table opened up inside and he escorted us to it immediately. The food was delicious and the service was terrific. They could not have been nicer. They can’t tell their guests to leave so it wasn’t their fault. Just glad we were able to eat inside. Highly recommend.

I can’t believe this place has been open over a year and I’ve not been! We had a ladies lunch upstairs and it was perfect the perfect place for that. I want to go back and enjoy the patio outside on. Saturday afternoon or one evening on date night. Lots of history in this building including some original sketches drawn by John Ringling. The food was excellent and the staff was very responsive and friendly.

Omg I love this place. The ambiance is so cool, it's kind of small, but I love that kind of feel. The food is so amazing I can't even explain. I don't think you can get anything bad on this menu. I've been there twice already and I will definitely be back again. I want to sit outside next time and enjoy the pretty lights if it's nice weather.

Umbrellas 1296 was PHENOMENAL!!! After attending the Sarasota Downtown Holiday Parade in Sarasota Florida, a group of us went in search of something to eat and drink... and we were fortunate enough to happen upon Umbrellas 1296. Believe it or not, we were warmly welcomed by Executive Chef Scott Klein at the door as we walked in. From there we were seated in the beautiful courtyard dining area by a fantastic host and then paired with our server Sameer. He was extremely attentive to each of us and our wants, wishes and needs (there were 7 of us) and he patiently assisted each of us as we questioned the wine, signature cocktail, drink and menu selection. Unbeknownst to our group, the owners Paul and Bill were sitting just a table away and when the 5 Belly Dancers of Belly’s In Motion decided to do a pop up “flash mob” style performance, the owners were absolutely THRILLED!!! The compliments that were received were extremely appreciated and the ladies were invited in to the main enclosed dining area to do an encore performance. Outside of the festivities, the food that Executive Chef Scott Klein created for us was absolutely delectable and plated so professionally yet it was still our dinner. The food not only tasted delicious, it LOOKED delicious. Add to that, the Executive Chef Scott Klein came out after to see how we all liked the meal that he created for us! The atmosphere was very warm, welcoming and inviting in both the outside courtyard and inside dining areas. If you are in the downtown Sarasota area and are looking for an upscale dining experience yet are budget conscious (the prices are very reasonable), you NEED to visit Umbrellas 1296.

My friend and I had a delicious dinner at Umbrellas 1296 at the beginning of July, while on a trip from New York The menu choices were great- for every taste! I had escargots, Brussels' sprouts and the salmon. Everything was delicious! My friend was thrilled with his steak and Mexican Salad. We also had Al Capone drinks- loved them! The stuff was very kind and manager come to the table and asked us if we were pleased with food. The decor in the restaurant is modern and creative- lots of blue and grey, beautiful paintings, gorgeous painted walls and mirrors- really helped to created cheerful atmosphere. The patio is probably on of the most beautiful in town- blue and pink umbrellas, nice tables and chairs and live music that we got to enjoy after dinner. A must! Highly recommend.

Great place where the menu is extensive. We had a brussel sprout appetizer that was unbelievable and I had the duck confit that was excellent. The cocktail menu is great, as are the drinks. The finial bill seemed very reasonable for the meal. Oh, atmosphere is wonderful if you are downstairs, upstairs or outside.
