Assab Eritrean - San Francisco - Photo album

The best Eritrean in SF, and one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I've been going to Assab for 14 years now, and this family-run restaurant has always kept their standards high.
Assab Eritrean Restaurant was our first try at African cuisine and it was great! First of all the portions are huge!!! like ridiculously huge! We ordered one vegetarian and one meat combo (not family style) and the plate was so big! Everything tastes really good. I love their pita, it's sour and su
Interesting experience. I've never had Eritrean good before so it was really fun to eat using your hands from a shared plate, using the bread to scoop the food. The appetizers we order were delicious, but they came with the wrong filling - we order the beef but got the vegetable one. Overall a nice
Great staff. Complete menu. Perfectly spiced, enjoyed by the spicy-phobic as well. Veggie dishes very filling. Nice music. Con: absolutely no alternatives for adults or kids that don't want Eritrean foods.
As a vegan, my go-to order is their veggie platter which offers a variety of unique flavors from all the other Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurants I've tried in the Bay Area and SoCal. It tastes so home-cooked and comforting. The ambience is great for a date and family dinner. My non-vegan family enjoyed
My friend who is vegetarian and she picked this place to eat. They have meat dishes too. It's kinda off the foot path and has been there for many, many years. I'm so glad to finally try it! We both ordered the vegetarian combo but substituted the okra with some other vegetarian choice. The menu
Very interesting experience, if it's your first time trying Ethiopian/Eritrean cuisine - get ready to dig in with your hands (though utensils are available, if you'd prefer that). The food certainly felt homemade from the start, and it was clear this was a family-run operation. The waitress (who was
Very nice and modest neighborhood Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant. Previously had ordered take-out from here and liked it enough to come back and dine in this time. Ordered the beef roundtip place (Kelfi?) and the veggie sampler. Way more than enough for two people to share. Comes with a generous ser
This was my first experience with Eritrean cuisine. The food is extremely flavoursome and prepared to perfection. Their sambusa was an Indian samosa with an interesting twist. The concept of eatingwith hands in a large dish was fascinating. Their lentils were yummy. Must try
My husband and I have gone to Assab Restaurant several times, the food is always excellant and hot. The service is very good, very pleasant and no long waits. This is a family run restaurant, husband and wife and sometimes daughter. We have totally enjoyed this restaurant for several years and wil
Always amazing. Lentils to die for. Wonderfully sour injera. The best place to get a special intimate experience with your love or friends. Perfectly consistent delightful flavors for all the years I have been going here. Now that I no longer live in the city, I will travel from hours away to get m
Tasty! We had the chicken & meat dishes mixed w veggies, and both were really good. Might want to order mild if that's an issue, as most items here are spicy by default.
Great restaurant to go with friends, especially if you like to share. Interesting experience because you don't eat with knife and forks, but with bread. Typical of Eitrean food. Also, pretty spicy.
My wife and I ordered some of the vegetarian dishes here and we were very happy with the preperation and variety. Service was also quick and professional. We'd recommend it and will come back!
Big portions, tasty dishes, one of the best ethiopian / eritrean restaurants in the city (though there don't seem to be many). Towards the end I like to roll up the injera bread into a burrito and stuff it down. The faster you eat the more you can fit until 30 minutes later you'll feel unable to m
Reasonably priced, especially in SF, tasty east African food. Bug compared to other Ethiopian restaurants I have been taste and quality are average.
Assab is absolutely amazing! Our favorite neighborhood place to go & the best Eritrean food in the city, Assab is a fantastic spot for those looking to try Eritrean food. Family style is the way to go. The Alicha Beggee is to die for.
Family owned, located in an old Victorian. I have been going here for years, and the food continues to be elevated above typical Eritrean food... without a doubt one of the best options in town.
