Did the pastrami, a must. Coming off a trip to NY where I was able to. Certainly indulge in the finest of pastrami sandwiches, this place had an incredibly high bar to meet. Without fail it was met. Prices are a bit heavy as it is located on the cusp of the financial district, but worth it in my book. Ps, they sell meat in had-pound increments for takeout as well.
Super delicious corned beef and pastrami, plus amazing fresh baked rye bread. A little pricey for a sandwich, but worth it. If they had sauerkraut, they'd get five stars.
Edit: They added sauerkraut! But upped prices... so I'm sticking with four stars.
Delicious Reuben sandwich - sauerkraut , pastrami tossed with rye seeds and pickles on the side! At $17/sandwich , it's a pretty steep price but massive sandwich! Order a half or takeaway for another meal , loved the homemade pickles!
I'm beside myself with joy after inhaling their Pastrami! All meats are made/crafted on site according to their website and they heat them properly so they are fall-apart tender (fat has been lovingly rendered to melty perfection) yet still moist. Shorty's pastrami is on par with the best pastrami in NY.
If you're a Jewish Rye snob, you will be happy (also made on site); even for someone who rarely eats carbs, their bread is absolutely worth the extra time at the gym.
Naturally everyone's family recipe differs a bit on pickling, yet their pickles are true to what my grandma would make (not too sour, not too sweet, not too mushy, not too crunchy, not a funky tree tasting concoction of herbs or stinking of spice drops); they are refreshing and make me smile.
Their website allows you to order ahead and pick up (you can still eat there if you'd like).
Great price, 3 bucks for a plain bagel, a bit more for fixins. Prices shoot up for some of the full meal items, around 11 to 15. People were friendly, bagel was done quick. Put a 3$ bill on a credit card no questions asked. Bagel was good quality, fair amount of cream cheese given. Hilarious name for the place by the way.
The only good Jewish deli in San Francisco (yes, I'm looking at you, Wise Sons). They make their own pastrami, which rivals Langers and Katz's. Pleasant decor and nice people.
A slice of heaven. Michael has created the closest thing to what I can remember as my grandmothers cooking. Just landed in San Francisco and a visit tomorrow is on the top of my list. Soup and a knish is on the top of my list. I met Michael several years ago when I past his store on a business trip. If you need home made cooking shorty's is a must
Had half a pastrami sandwich and vegetable soup. Both were very good. Good meats selection.
Jewish-deli food.
Pretty good food and sandwiches you're unlikely to find at other places.
Long wait and steep prices. I go if someone else is paying ;)
Thanks Shorty's! Great for lunch delivery. Delicious food. They ran someone back with condiments when our tenant requested some.
