This place was great! Can’t think of anything I would improve upon. I got the spicy noodle soup with chicken. It was very delicious. I added another boiled egg to it for more protein. The chicken was a small patty. The service was very friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere. Not overly crowded. We were there at 1pm, when we left there was only one guy left. Recommend this place for a good warm bowl of soup to satisfy rainy day hunger.

Came around 2-3 and there were 3 different groups of customers already seated. We were greeted immediately and seated fast. Drinks came out fast. We ordered the Yamadaya tonkotsu and the wait was maybe 5 minutes. The broth was very rich and salty in a good way with a slight smokiness. The noodle was a bit tougher than I expected. The pork belly was fatty and melt-in-your-mouth tender, and had a saltiness similar to the broth. The braised pork was just as tender as the pork belly but less fatty. I really liked the marinated egg which still had some yolkiness but was not runny. Overall, it was a very good dish; I cleared the whole bowl except for a bit of broth.

This is a favorite spot to go to when we visit San Diego during Comic- Con. The service was not the best this time around but they made it up by picking up the tab on two pitchers of beer. I was bold enough to try their level three spicy ramen and was worth every mouthful. I know that trying to feed hungry people is not always fun, so there are no hard feelings towards the service. I will keep coming here every year to see what is new.

If you’re staying in downtown SD this place is a must. The pork tonkotsu ramen was the most authentic I’ve had in tha states. It was so good I went two nights in a row. Pitchers of beer for $8; you can beat that price in the area. I stayed at the Westgate Hotel and it was a short walk only three blocks from the hotel. We received our food within 15mins and stayed and chatted for about a hr. On the first night the restaurant had closed about 10 mins after we arrived but the staff did not rush us nor did we receive subpar food. Definitely pay them a visit !

I love this restaurant because of it's location, atmosphere, and quality Japanese cuisine. It's a small restaurant with seating for about fourty, the booths are comfortable, and I've never had to wait for a table. The Karaage Chicken is delicious as well as the Yamadaya (Japanese pork belly) rice bun. I always get the Ramen Tonkotsu because it is rich and garlicky, add the extra noodles and Yamadaya for a big tasty bowl of Ramen. The price isn't bad, I pay $12 for the Ramen Tonkotsu. If you're looking for a new restaurant to try downtown, try this one

Ordered the Yama ramen with extra noodle and Chashu side bowl with salad. Salad - below average Chashu bowl - very nice, plenty of meat. Ended up skipping the rice and took all the pork for the extra noodle portion. Yama ramen - very good soup, good noodle, perfect egg, meat is well cooked but less than average (even w/o considering the extra noodle, glad I ordered the Chashu bowl for the meat) Extra noodle - for $1.50 extra, the extra noodle is actually more than what's in the regular bowl. Overall good food and service. Will come again.

I've never liked ramen restaurants. I've tried 6 or 7. I was outvoted as where to eat by the fam and we saw this tiny place of the beaten path. It's definitely in a location not suited for the quality of food. They care about the uniqueness of their flavors. Their garlic edemame was perfectly executed bringing out the pungent sweetness of garlic. The gyoza was handmade and pan seared, so flavorful that the soy sauce was not needed. The broth from the ramen was amazing, I got the one with black garlic sauce. All of the elements were cooked to perfection. The pork belly was soft and fell apart, not tough...the egg was still moist in the center not all dry. I very rarely give reviews to restaurants, being I'm a chef and have been known to exude a super picky critique of plates. This restaurant deserves to be a recognized. Rocky Flowers
