Amazing food and huge portions! Have been here many times, and have loved each visit. Usually a long wait, but absolutely worth it.
Delicious fresh food that feeds the soul, drinks to quench the wild beast, and ambience to impress, seduce, or relax by. A 'Don't Miss'!
Wow! Incredible brunch offerings at gargantuan portions. Southern comfort foods such as biscuits, eggs, and cornbread with "gamey" protein choices such as elk, wild boar, venison, and lamb in addition to more traditional bacon, pork, and beef. The lamb scramble was exceptional, with good balance of meat, eggs, and greens. The side of cornbread alone was already quite filling and was excellent with their fresh strawberry jam/compote. I sample some pancakes as well, which are massive and overflowing while almost an inch thick with perfect fluffy texture. Finally, I sampled their house Bloody Mary which was supposedly voted best Bloody Mary in San Diego. Not the best I've had but among the better ones. The right balance of vodka with enough horseradish.
The restaurant itself is dimly lit while being vibrant and lively (not quiet). Expect a wait so you may want to call ahead. Service was excellent.
Overall I had a great experience and would recommend especially if you enjoy hearty brunches with lots of protein.
I went here because the hash house down the street was too busy and was seated right away. The food came quickly, the proportions were huge, and the food was great. The menu is diverse enough that one has a difficult time choosing which delectable dish they are going to attempt to ingest. The quality of the massive proportions is very high and the service was nothing short of the friendliest, what one should expect from this area. Highly recommended
Came here when the line at Hash House was too long. I'm glad I did. The portions are also large, but I feel that the overall quality of the food is a little higher here. The service is great, the food comes out quick, everything is really polished. The prices are good too. Give the tractor room a shot, it will be a big, delicious breakfast.
A bit of a wait. Located near hash house in hillcrest. I love that they have a waiting section on the side with game boards, ping pong table and coffee/water. They will text you or come get you once the table is ready. The inside is pretty small so you have to maneuver through the crowded tables to the bathroom.
Drink:
- watermelon kiwi lemonade: Pretty sweet and yummy like candy. Don't get this if you want something that tastes like fresh fruit.
- my sis got some tractor room... Manhattan something cocktail: it was pretty strong
Didn't get but wanted:
- Their bloody Mary. Had a wide selection of bloody Mary's
Food (we ordered one sweet and one savory):
- French toast garnished with nutmeg, strawberries and cinnamon: it is HUGE!! The bread was fluffy and soft. I recommend this if you're not a pancake person.
-In "Good Health" Scramble with turkey sausage: Came with a lot of potatoes and the side corn bread wasn't that bad. The turkey sausage had a subtle pepper kick and the scrambled eggs were filling :)
I would recommend this place if you're in town visiting SD!
Meat. Lots of different meat. Corn bread that is seriously some of the best corn bread I've ever had. A fun funky decor. Delicious drinks, amazing food. Everything was cooked to perfection, the meat nice and tender, the cheese plate beautifully presented. Going with a big group seems to be a little bit on a challenge. A friend had to go to the bar to order drinks because our waiter skipped over us a few times.
What's can be said about this San Diego institution? Its amazing. Score a seat or two in the hidden corner of the bar and people watch for a couple of hours. The food is good (meat focused) and the bartenders know their stuff. If a drink is not right they are happy to adjust your beverage. Brunch is pretty epic too.
Big portions and tasty. I shared a plate of the wild boar hash with the corn bread and still went home with left overs. It comes in an iron skillet and it's large. I would highly recommend sharing. Only thing i would hope they would change is to maybe expand the restaurant. Their wait is just as bad as hash house now :(
One of my favorite brunch spots in SD. I love their fried chicken hash. Portions are huge so come with a big appetite, share or bring home leftovers. They take reservations for brunch which is AMAZING! (Esp. when their are hoards of people waiting for hours outside of Hash House, their sister restautant)
This is a great place to try out some tasty venison vittles! Although it was a bit expensive, it was still good. I wasn't too hungry when I went so I just helped myself to the Wild Boar Spring Rolls which were really good. They sit it on a salad bed which was drizzled with a balsalmic vinegrette of some kind and it was pretty filling.
Decor- Lodgy and dark
Staff - The waitress seemed like she wasn't very happy with her job which reflected in her abrupt attitude towards the group. It's okay, we had fun talking about her anyways and she kinda softened up towards the end....I think. The bartender was great and the hostess was polite and hooked us up with a great table.
Pros: They have LOTS of Whisky/Scotch options to choose from.
Cons: $$$$
Great food. Prices were unfortunately on the high side, however it makes up for a larger plate. Waiters took a while to come around, but it seemed really busy so I won't blame it on them completely.
