Gusto

Just tried Gusto for the first time and was very impressed. Food was cooked to perfection, presentation was nice and the service was excellent. My wife had the scallops and I had a steak. The scallops were served with pork belly. I have to say that it looked a little strange but the combination was fantastic. My steak was medium rare, on the rare side and topped with baby green beans.

My wife and two friends ate at Gusto on Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014. It is a good thing we had a reservation because the place was packed. Even the large private room in the back had a group there watching a presentation of some sort. With all of the customers inside, I was wondering if we would see less than adequate service. As it turned out, the service was fantastic, as well as all of our choices. We started off by sharing George's tuna tartare which was very fresh and quite tasty. For my first course I had the vibrant pea soup, so fresh I swore they just picked the peas from some local garden. For my main course I had the beef tenderloin with barolo butter, baby carrots and fingerling potatoes. Perfectly grilled steak accompanied by expertly cooked veggies! Since we weren't too familiar with Italian wines, we asked our server for a suggestion of a wine that would be big and somewhat fruity. He came back with a Cirulli 1861 meritage made mostly of cabernet franc. It was a perfect compliment to the beef I had and my wife's lamb loin chops. For dessert we had tiramisu and a butterscotch mousse. Both were light, sweet and wonderful. We spent about two hours at Gusto but it seemed more like 30 minutes because we had such a great time. San Carlos is lucky to have such a wonderful little place as this!
