Buckhorn Tavern

A truly excellent Green chile cheeseburger and green chili cheese fries! I had been a fan of their competitor, Owl Cafe, for many years and had never tried Buckhorn. My thought was Owl Cafe was the original and Buckhorn was the Johnny come lately. Both have been around for years but the Owl was first from what I understand. After hearing so much hype about Buckhorn, I felt obligated to at least give it a try. I am so very glad that I did. The Owl has been not as good as It used to be in recent years. Buckhorn Tavern's burger flavor and texture was scrumptious as were the fries. The Green Chile had just the right kick and the burger was substantial as opposed to the Owl. Next time I'm passing by San Antonio New Mexico my stop will be at the Buckhorn for sure! The one and only reason why this is not a 5 star rating is the fact that the service was only ok. My server was nice enough but she seemed to be struggling with only 2 tables and take out. I was super psyched that I was able to eat in the restaurant though! I heard the kitchen yell "Order up"at least 3x for her to pick up my food before it arrived. Still, I'll be back for more!

I stop by Buckhorn everytime I go to Alamogordo to visit my wife's family and today had to have been the best burgers we've not only had there, but perhaps EVER. It was bursting with flavor from the fresh ground beef and seasoning in the patties and it had the most delicious toppings, not to mention the incredible green chile. Thank You for making my Christmas Eve lunch one to remember!!!

They waitress, the cook, and everyone else was perfect. More than perfect, fantastic!! The waitress deserved the big tip we gave her. Plz tell her we said thank you... the food was delicious. It was alot of it and I didn't mind the price. Everyone should go try it at least once, I'm recommending to everyone.
