Review Doner Kebab Cafe - San Antonio

Honestly, I don't usually leave reviews but this place is AMAZING. Honestly. I'm from NYC and have had a hard time finding a good halal place in San Antonio. Places that were given 4.5 stars tasted 2 star at best and you could tell it wasn't fresh. But this gem of a place did not disappoint! Hands down best burger and donor kebab in SA. Everything was well-seasoned, fresh, and delicious plus the staff is friendly. We will definitely be coming back as regulars.

First, what exactly is a Doner kebab? It’s the same thing as a gyro or shawarma (I won’t bore you with the details, but you can look it up on Wikipedia if you want the deets). The kebabs and the shawarma can be ordered as a sandwich on soft, pillowy pita bread, on a bed or rice, or on a salad - each are the same price. I recommend the pita option. I can’t decide what stole my heart here - the meat or the pita bread. The pita bread is served fresh and warm - it’s SO good. And the meat - wow! I’ve had the chicken shawarma and the Doner kebab and both were out of this world. The meat is seasoned very well, and so juicy. Serving sizes are HUGE here! Doner kebab (a mix of lamb and beef) is $7.99 and the chicken shawarma is $6.99 (each include tzatziki sauce on the side). Compare the prices and serving size to other shawarma or gyro places in town, and you’ll realize the value you’re getting here - AND quality food. The only thing they could improve on is to include more lettuce, tomatoes, and onion. All the veggies are stuffed on one end of it just for presentation’s sake. Open late - until 2am on Fri and Sat and until midnight every other day of the week. Nice clean place. They also have wings, burgers, and waffles.

Well, I have been here twice now and I keep forgetting to take a photo before I chow down on this amazing food. But, this place is absolutely wonderful! I've had friends go and say great things about it, and my first time was terrific! Even though some of the menu is limited during Covid-19, (no waffles :( ) the kabab and chicken are nothing short of delicious and fresh! The first time I went in it was just the one gentleman server, and there were three of us diners for dine in. I got the combination plate and was salivating the entire time the chicken was cooked fresh. The food was very filling and good for the price. The second time (as I'm writing this review) was a to-go order, and I went with just the Doner Kebab because it's the quickest to make (just the kabab right off the skewer). Again, it was just the one gentleman there that came out with a smile on his face. I felt very welcome coming back, even though the signs said "closed" he apologized saying he was "very busy" and forgot to flip the signs. Regardless, the plate that I got was packed full of rice, with a hardy layer of meat on top, fresh veggies, and a perfect layer of sauce over all of it. I got a cup of hot sauce on the side and I devowered the entire place within 15 minutes of getting home. I don't normally leave reviews on Google, but for small businesses like this one with exceptional food and service... I make no exceptions. This place deserves all the great reviews and ratings thus far, especially for how well this owner is adjusting to the times of covid-19. The gentleman is very nice, knows his portions, and makes some mean Kebab. I would emphatically recommend going if you've been wanting to try it, as I'm for sure going to become a regular at this location!

I am very impressed with the food here. A friend and I had just got out of class and we're headed to the nearby bar for a drink. But we saw Doner Kebab and thought, yeah, let's try it. I didn't know what to order so I thought, ok, try the Doner Kebab and I randomly chose the bread variant. It was awesome, and for a fair price too. Definitely give it a shot.

My favorite Zabiha Halal Burger Joint in SA! The burgers are always super delicious and juicy, and the flavor is to die for! If you are visiting, I definitely recommend trying this place out! Order in advance because they do have a wait time!

Tried the takeout twice from this place while in Sanantonio. They have great food and quick service .

Doner kebab with salad is delicious. If you like a lot of dressing ask for extra. My boyfriend's burger was really good but a little messy.

Found this little terkish popular cuisine by utsa next to deol bar. Wow. Food is great and tasted authentic. Will be going back for more soon!

Reminiscent of döner shops in Europe. It's not a game changer, but it's good and scratches the itch for kebab and shawarma. The fries were surprisingly good.

Amazing place to eat if you love Mediterranean food. My mom and I were amazed at the service and how fresh the food was when we ordered. It was super delicious. Definitely recommend to try it out. Everything was super clean and organized. Loved every bite of my food. Will come back for more!

Wonderful food, fast, friendly service. Stopped in twice on our short stay in San Antonio, it was so good.

I was on the way to go get tacos. Had a funny hunch to stop here instead never been. All I can say is the Doner dish was absolutely amazing got it with the rice. All I can say is phenomenal The sauce is amazing with it. Can't wait to go back and try some other things on the menu.

I miss Germany doner a lot and this definitely kicks those craving. The doner with bread and the doner with rice are both bomb!

The food is so delicious every time. I called before closing to place a large order and they were able to get it to me even tho I was 5 min after they closed. The owner is very and nice and the food is affordable and delicious ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if you haven’t been you need to check it out!

This place smacks and when i say smacks i mean it slaps your taste buds in to another dimension. The kebab dimension!!! If you haven’t eaten here you is sleep so you need to wake up and pull through. Good priced and fills you up okay like that’s the perfect combo. Did i fail to mention the customer service is on point. It’s a good kebab cafe ,that’s it (:

The best doner cafe I have been to in years. Halal menu, great selection of western Mediterranean cuisine. On point old world recipes. Kind, knowledgeable staff & excellent prices. If your looking to grab some quick grub, Or want to bring in the family for a nice sit down meal Frank & Zubear will fill your plates & leave a smile on your face.

Arrived shortly before opening... Was greeted and welcomed in.. Easy order menu.. Quick turn arround time.. Got our doners in less that 3 minutes after ordering.. In comparison to the many Doner venders in Europe the Doners were EXCELLENT! Large.. Meat is tender and ampel! Flavor is excelent with a slight "Kick" in heat.. And the price is what I expected as this is not a place where you get a $1 hamburger.. But instead freah meat and fresh ingredients! DEFINITLY recomending this jewel!! Ive read some of the complaints and honestly find most of them un-warented and peddy... One showing a picture of a doner with sliced meat in the thickness of brisket.. I feel if this individual would be a little more world traveled and educated they might appreciate a great doner. Another giving 1 star because they waited 7 minutes.. We all know bad reviews and exageration... Perhaps I should start carrying a stop watch when going out to eat... (7 minutes.... Come on...) I can TOTALLY see this place getting busy at times.. Being accross from a college... And the fact that the food is AWESOME!!! Unfortunately we live in a McDonald's, "I want it NOW!" society where patience for good service and great food are under appreciated. For all that felt the need to bash and discredit this establishment... Keep going to your McDonald's, Burger King's, and fast food pubs...
