Golden Star Cafe in San Antonio is a true institution, having served the community for over 90 years. This place is a hidden gem, offering a delightful blend of Chinese, Mexican, and Seafood dishes that perfectly reflect the diverse flavors of San Antonio. The menu is a culinary adventure, with a wide variety of options to satisfy any craving. And let's not forget their takeout - it's top-notch! They have frequent lunch specials and amazing deals that make it a go-to option for a quick and delicious meal. Trust me, you won't be disappointed with Golden Star Cafe. It's a must-try for anyone looking for some hearty food at a great price in San Antonio.

A San Antonio staple for comfort Chinese food. Since 1939, the owners are a San Antonio family who have run the restaurant. The area can feel a bit scary at times as there is a large homeless population loitering in and around the restaurant. Make sure to lock your doors and not leave valuables out in plain view. The food is straight forward, sometimes great, sometimes disappointing but often just 👍. Sometimes the owners will put on a show shouting across the room in Chinese. It's funny. Service is a bit rough, but they get the job done.

I’ve had Golden Star on multiple occasions and have always loved the service and food! I really like that the food comes in a to go box, I always have leftovers when I go out so it was really convenient that it was already done for me! The sesame chicken and combo rice are my favorite.

I don’t normally eat all my lunch as I don’t want to wind up in a food coma, but this, THIS meal was excellent! The best part was the rice. I’m starting to understand why the rest of the world eats so much dang rice. If it is prepared as good as this, I’d eat it everyday! The egg rolls! Perfect. Crunchy and delicious. My meal, beyond amazing. This place tastes fresh made. I can’t believe it took me 5 years to stop in.

Had the fish and shrimp dinner with tarter sauce and hot sauce. Food was good, glad that it is still open and food is available. I really miss my other favorite downtown restaurant, Mexican Manhattan, 😥😭... Thanks GS!

Plenty of parking for late lunch. Property exterior was clean and signage was clear and easy to identify. Had egg rolls for appetizer. They were hot, crispy and delicious. Shared the combination chow mein and combination fried rice. Everything was great and the sweet tea was true to Texas Sweet Tea Standards. Highly recommend. Extremely likely to return.

Like many local San Antonians, my family has been coming here since the 1970’s when it was open 24/7/365. I have been all over the US and only Golden Star knows how to make chop suey! So had their egg drop soup, the chicken chop suey, and a side of hot fish and fries. All like I remember and just awesome! 👍👍👍👍👍
