Solid Barbque. This east side joint offers up really good barbecue. They have all the traditional meats and sides. The brisket and Elgin sausage stand out. The brisket is for tender and has that bark that everyone loves. The sides are standard fare. Service is amiable and professional.
Go There. A hidden gem of BBQ goodness. Mr J's is a regular go-to when nothing but Q will do. The sausage is from Lockhart, and it alone is worth the trip here but don't stop at the sausage because everything is good. All of the meats are done to perfection, and the selection of great sides is longer than any other joint around. Nothing goes with ribs like Collard Greens, and they got 'em here right along with slaw, yams, potato salad, green beans, and a whole bunch more. A great full-plate lunch and sweet tea for $7 including tax? Yep. OK, it needs a little remodeling and better A/C, but who cares?
My barber told me about this place so I took about a 20 minute ride. It was definitely worth it. I had brisket, chicken, and sausage. Good flavor to the meats and the sauce. The sides were delicious. Make sure you bring cash because credit is not accepted.
Mr j bbq. This is the most delicious bbq i have had in years.the portion are big and the price is just right. the customer service is excellent.only thing is the wait.makes your mouth water just waitng for your order so if you can order ahead.

Needed some briskets smoked. Called around to find no one seems to do this anymore. Mr J's was highly recommended by a friend. Discussed pricing, process of delivery and pickup with friendly, knowledgeable staff.
The briskets (3) were well trimmed and smoked. Had to freeze them for later use. Thawed and cut by myself and found to be excellent. Not too "woody" in taste. Nice smoke ring. Not dry. Very tender. Excellent price. Will definitely do this again and recommend.
I've had more than my fair share a BBQ living in Texas. My stepfather made the best barbecue.Then he became ill and was no longer able to cook. I actually believe that I would never experience that type of greatness again. Mr Jay's in San Antonio Texas has shown me otherwise. The sliced beef sandwiches 🍔 are delicious. Mr Jay's you have out done yourself. Continue the good work. This Place Has Great Food, Great Prices & Reasonable Portions. However, I Did Not Like The Plastic Sliding Screen On The Window That Was In Front Of Me As I Placed My Order. I Am Use To Face To Face Interaction. I Felt Uncomfortable Ordering As I Felt I Couldn't Ask Very Many Questions About The Menu & Felt Odd Talking In Front Of A PlastIc Screen. We Waited On The Picnic Tables For Our Order ,Which Was Nice But We Found A Pill Of Some Sort On The Ground. I Will Return To This Place But Will Definitely Place An Order Over The Phone& Then Pick Up.
Mr J's BBQ was started by Mr J, who lived in our neighborhood. Before Mr J passed away he taught his right hand man, his son all the tricks and trades about good. B B Q. It is still delicious even in his passing.
With my dad on chemo, foods to eat have become less and less, but when it comes to Mr. J's....dad is at the table ready to eat.
Turkey legs and Brisket are his go to.

Smoked Turkey Breast w yams and mac cheese. Pretty good for price..will revisit when feeling lazy..owners are nice and the corn bread was good..nice lil homey place_..
That Brisket had soul and did not disappoint, Franklin and Lockhart Tx bbq has nothing on this stuff, awesome, yuppies pay attention.
The brisket is great only complaint I have is that I order the brisket combo and they forgot to give me the chips and drink I didn't notice until I got home
