Thank you Chef Dewanna for bringing your soulful skills to San Antonio; thank you for your Gumbo that's so filled with interesting, flavorful ingredients; thank you for adding a whole new dimension to San Antonio's food scene. Our red beans & rice, gumbo, fried shrimp were a feast of flavors. We brought our own beer and wine and the chef joined us after the meal to share some and to talk about food and how she moved to SA after "the Storm" that slammed in New Orleans and drove away almost the entire population. San Antonio is the beneficiary of the Storm; the Big Easy Cafe transported us back to New Orleans for a couple of hours and it sure was a great trip.

Reminds me of home and my cooking also. Read the other reviews, and i must say the $15 for the food is normal and one would pay the same thing in nola. So unless you've been to nola or anywhere in Louisiana please stop complaining.

Cajun Best in San Antonio. I had the smothered ribs. My husband had the sausage and red beans and rice. We topped it with double chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. There was a fabulous piano player. By far, the best Cajun/Creole food in San Antonio! A Gem! Worth the trip.

First time here and impressed by the food. Baked chicken was tender and moist with black eyed peas and rice. Kids had the catfish and both enjoyed it. Wife had a smoked sausage po boy. Service was on point and we did not have to wait too long for our food. It ain't no chain restaurant so I am glad they are making great NOLA food and not worrying about the decor.

Wow! I always wait to review a place until I've been there twice, just in case, and both times the food was *amazing*! I haven't ventured out of the Po Boys yet, but when I do, I'll update! I had the BBQ Chicken Po Boy the first time, dressed their way, and it was simply divine! I opened the carton (I ordered to-go) and my first impression was "HUGE!" I ordered a half-po boy and it was gigantic! I didn't think I'd be able to finish it...until I tasted it! Soft bread, slightly chewy crust, super moist chicken, fresh lettuce and tomato, just the right amount of mayo, but it was the bbq sauce that put it over the top! Simply divine! Dwana, I don't know what you do, but it was amazing! First visit, I also had a Pineapple and coconut cake that blew my mind! Insanely, perfectly moist cake just bursting with flavor and the frosting was coconutty, crispy, crumbling goodness! Second visit, went large! Blacked Catfish po-boy, macaroni and cheese, fries, dirty rice, hot sausage po boy and That Cake (Did I mention I brought someone with me? Lol). Everything was good. My Cajun boyfriend was impressed with the rice, I drooled over the mac and cheese, we both loved our po boys, gobbled up the fries and tried That Cake. Which....I'm not sure what to say about it...if they have the pinapple coconut cake back, that will always be my first choice, but That Cake was a unique combination of flavor and texture and we did enjoy it as well. Someone mentioned that it was kind of expensive to eat there....I say Poo to that! You'd spend just as much on Pappadeauxs or anywhere else nice really and may not enjoy the food as much! I put $20 as the average cost per person because the bill was 40 for me and my boyfriend WITH two full po boys, all the sides, That Cake *and* tip! We both thought it was pretty fair, but for those of you cheapies out there, my first meal was only $7... :)
