Really great sandwiches! I had the Chef's Continental sandwich, and it was delicious. It features a home-made pate that they make, along with sliced chicken and an interesting sausage. The pickled veggies and cilantro go perfectly with the sandwich, and the mayonnaise and home-made chili paste. They compliment it surprisingly well. The soup appetizer was also a treat. It was a french onion soup with a sopping wet bread slice smothered in cheese on top. The small onion bits floating in the soup along with the cheesy bread make a combination to die for. The tea is surprisingly good, too!! I would say its almost as good as the tea at Simi's. Almost, but that's a huge compliment in my book! (I drink unsweet tea, so keep that in mind). I don't like sweets but my husband scarfed down my cream puff and his (he was eyeing mine) and he says it was really good and the bread for it was so soft and fresh.I really liked that the owner made an effort to stop by our table to talk with us. He was really sweet and I've noticed the few times I've gone that he makes an effort to get to know his customers and interacts with several of them. I left really happy and smiling. Also, with the heat outside the interior was really cool and fresh and I really appreciated that. The bill came out to $20 for us two, which was also an amazingly good price and I will happily dine here for as many lunches as I can for some delicious, fresh, yet affordable food.
Saw it listed on the app, and decided to give it a try, and very glad we did. Amazing Banhmi's and soups. We tried the s7 Chef's Continental Banhmi, and the s16 Grilled Pork Banhmi. All sandwiches come with soup, salad or chips and a creme filled pastry. We went with the French onion and the chicken and corn soup both were great. We will definitely be back.

Just enjoyed my first sandwich of many to come! Absolutely delicious french onion soup - just like my dad used to make - and the roast beef sandwich was delicious! A new favorite restaurant of mine!
Tasty, fresh perfectly balanced bahnmi sandwich. Onion soup and cream puff were very tasty compliments as well, friendly service...I will definitely be back!

Off the French Cuff?. I was in the area and noticed this obscure little restaurant in a well worn stirp mall on Fred. Rd. I was hungy for a good deli sandwich and I like French fries pretty well. So I figured, why not French sandwiches?!
A very serene little restaurant with white table cloths (covered by plastic), real ivy trailing along one wall, good luck bamboo growing in vases at the counter and soothing "elevator" style music at the proper conversational background decibel level. I was totally relaxed.
Not a huge selection of sandwiches, soups, salads and plates. Plenty of interesting choices however. Never having had a Banhmi, it was a natural choice for my not quite Zimmern level of try-anything-once dining aspirations.
The pleasant waitress suggested that I select the french (but of course) baguette for the sandwich bread instead of croissant, so I did. FIrst out was my choice of soup . . .French onion of course . . . since I don't think they make an American onion soup and it wasn't on the menu anyway. The chicken & corn soup sounded good as well. Light caramelized onion flavored broth with the obligatory French (of course) bread and cheese "floater". Great start. Then the savory pork sandwich with fresh tomato and cilantro; perfect combination of flavors. Nice palate refresh with the carrot and daikon slivers in light vinegarette. Finally, the little puff pastry loaded with a vanilla flavored custard was the icing on the cake (slight mixed metaphor reference, but your get the idea).
The waitress checked on me once and the owner/manager once as well. So I left pleased with my "off the cuff" (not French in this case) selection for lunch.
Can I go every day?. I had the pork sandwich at lunch, and by dinner time I wanted another one. Had it with the seafood soup, which was so very light and subtle that at first I was not impressed, but it grew on me. As I write this, I am working out my schedule in my head so I can grab another pork sandwich tomorrow....
First visit today and it was awsome!
Been coming here for 3 years and can say the exceptional service, fare and $$ are worthy of your patronage!

Something New. On a whim, I decided to try this nonchalant sandwich shop in a nonchalant strip mall. When I walked in I was the only patron and almost turned around and left. I decided to give the menu a glance and after talking with whom I presume to be the owner, I decided I'd sit down and give it a try. I ordered a fajita steak sandwich (s6 on the menu) with the onion soup. A delightful surprise was when I was given the option to have my sandwich with croissant or french bread. I sat down with my ereader and moments later the onion soup was in front of me. The soup was much lighter than french onion soup but a nice way to wake up the palate. My sandwich arrived with in mere minutes with a small little pastry. One bite of my sandwich and I knew I was in for a foodie delight. At my age you've tried all the great pizzas and hamburgers and although you've enjoyed them, they begin to get borig and predicable. I delighted in the new flavors arrangements of this sandwich. You know that feeling you get when the sandwich has perfect ratios of meat, v eg's and sandwich spread? This had all that and cilantro too! It was amazing.
I only have one criticism: I wish my sandwich would have been cut in two equal pieces. I was given a butter knife to cut it, but that just wasn't sharp enough to give a clean cut.
AMAZING!!!. Wanted a sandwich, goggled and found this place. What a treat!! Had the grilled pork sandwich on french bread. Whoever dared to rate this place poorly they have issues. It is indeed a hole in the wall, clean, with excellent service and the kitchen is exposed so u can see with ur own 2 eyes how clean it is. If you are looking for an excellent sandwich this is the place. And for the foodies out there it has 2 Blue Plates. So hater's , post elsewhere because u r just full of it!!! I am formally hooked!!! I know exactly what Im having tomorrow for lunch! and the following day, and the day after ;)
On a saturday aftrenoon, we stopped into this little gem on a whim hoping to find some good banh mi sandwiches. Not only was it delicious, it was priced very well and also came with a soup, dessert, and some bread on the side. The seafood soup was AMAZING. It tasted so fresh and had chunks of shrimp and crab. The sandwich itself was great, not to mention the good customer service we got. Moral of the story: GO EAT THERE!!!!!!
Finally tried this place & really enjoyed it. Had the pate sandwich. What a delicious out-of-the ordinary treat! I will return!
MMM!!!. I've been going to this place for years (since 93), and it is by far one of the best sandwich joints in SA. The service and food have remained consistent over the years. I recommend the s2 s7 and s14 as well as their omelete (get it with everything in it). The soups are excellent and while the salads are a bit plain to look at and needs a bigger bowl to be served in, the vinaigrette dressing is just really good. The owner and staff are very friendly. Knows when to chat and when to leave ya alone to grub down.
GREAT PLACE FOR SANDWICH. I had the number 7 Chef’s Continental (Homemade pate, chicken, sausage with cucumber, jalapeno and cilantro) on French bread with onion soup and my husband had the number 2 Sandwich Au Blanc De Dindonneau (Turkey club combination of ham, crisp bacon, turkey breast and Swiss cheese) on Croissant with salad. I enjoyed my sandwich and soup very much. My husband like his but the croissant did not hold up very well. His sandwich fell apart in midway. His salad looked very fresh and appealing to me. The French onion soup is not the same as I used to have but it is still very good. The place is very clean and the owner is very friendly. Price is very reasonably each plate is around $7.00. I am from Houston and I had very good Vietnamese sandwich (Banh Mi) there. But in San Antonio, French Sandwich will be the place for me if I am craving Vietnamese style sandwich.
I am in town visiting from Seattle and of course had to use urbanspoon to find some great eateries... French Sandwhiches had a 94% I like rating with closed to 200 votes. If you use Urbanspoon like I do, you know that's a great rating... The food was very was delish. Under $10 bucks for a full Sandwhiche, soup and tea. The staff was great and curtious, I would recommend to everyone. Sorry Camellia, I don't know what you were talking about but it sounds like you simply have a problem with the ethnicity of the owners...
My favorite is the tofu sandwich, though the tofu salad is delicious, too!

Yummy Bahn Mi. First, in response to: Caramelli. Yes, they are Asian but they are familiar with bahn mi (the pork sandwich listed on their menu) which tells me that they are more than likely Vietnamese. And for those history buffs out there, France colonized Vietnam which can be traced as far back as the 1600s (France essentially wanted to trade with China and use some resources available in Vietnam). Keeping this in mind, I would say this is probably the reason why they have this particular business and have named it as such. In addition, a close friend of my family's - who is in fact, Vietnamese - has stated that the language choices in school include English or French. In case ya' didn't know. ;)
When I first came across French Sandwiches and reviewed their menu, I asked the owner if the pork sandwich was bahn mi and he confirmed. I was glad too because even though there are a couple of other places in town that serve this treat, I prefer Lily's Sandwiches in Austin. I was happy with what I ordered - the onion soup was delicious. Not heavy or weighed down at all - very light. The price isn't bad and the owner/employees have always been polite. And they deliver too. An A+ in my book!
Vegetarian option!. They have a wonderful grilled tofu sandwich with sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, cilantro, cucumbers, garlic mayonnaise, and you can choose french or croissant bread, both delicious!!! This sandwich comes with a soup or a salad (wonderful garlic vinagrette house dressing!). Highly recommended!
This is place is not bad, I voted Like, the rating is a little misleading, it is not that great. Try those little creme puffs, I ordered mote for the road
Best restaurant and sandwiches ever!. BEST sandwiches in S.A. Service is excellent and food is great! Very small place but good for take-out. You get a sandwich w/ chips, salad or soup for under $7. The bread is soft and crispy on the outside but not hard at all. The cheese was melted perfectly w/ brown edges and a little crispy and chewy. I will be returning here often w/ new people to try out their other menu items.
Go for the pork sandwich. Love it!!! The pork sandwich is to die for. I want to try the shrimp which the owner says is very popular, but I can't stop craving the pork.
Mmmmmm Good. I haven't been here in almost three years, but went today and was able to get my favorite (The Continental). The Baguettes are marvelous, the homemade mayo has a great flavor, and the French Onion Soup tastes oh so good! Love this place.
Darn scrumptious is what Stephani and I have to say. Was a new lunchtime adventure and we will be back. And the little cream puff that comes with each sandwich was delicious.
Great Food. I've been going to this little family owned sandwich shop for years. I am never disappointed by the food and service. They have the absolute best French Onion Soup. The sandwiches are always fresh and delicious. The cream puff that comes with the meal is always a great treat. The owners are very friendly and hard working. They do a super job keeping this place clean and the food tasty.

Haven't eaten here in a few years as my wife and I have moved from San Antonio to Dallas. However, I have already agreed to drive down to pick up some of their AWESOME sandwiches when the cravings strike her while bearing my child. Let's start from the beginning. You get a choice of soup or salad. Salad is not so fancy iceberg with a few carrot shavings and a tomato wedge. The saving grace would be their great vinegrette dressing. The soup is a very tastey onion soup with a nice piece of bread covered with melted cheese. This soup is so good, I can't remember how many times I scorched my mouth as I ate through the pain! That's some good soup, folks. As far as their sandwiches are concerned, I've only tried one, but it's the only one I'll ever need for bliss on earth. I forgot the name, bu its the one with the stirfried ham, turkey, and bell peppers covered by this cheese that they brown/carmalize to a maddeningly delicious crisp. Just awesome and unmatched by any other sandwhich this future fat bastard has ever sampled!!! Now, you do get your choice of bread, and the French bread is a wiser choice than the croissant. Although my wife is not pregnant yet, she often reminds me we need to visit my mom and French Sandwiches down in San Antonio!
The Best. I love this place and the folks that own it are friendly and nice. The best frenchonion soup ever. Pretty much any sandwich is good. The coffee is wonderful, too!
An inexpensive, great tasting lunch spot! My coworker and I had a feening for soup and sandwiches. This was perfect and definitely a step away from the usual same old same old here in San Antonio. Service was fast and friendly and the menu was easy to order from. I'm bringing more people next time!
Very satisfied. This quaint little place is situated in a strip mall on Fredericksburg, and it is definitely worth checking out. It's run by a nice Vietnamese family, and their sandwiches are excellent. The french onion soup is as good as others have said. Very affordable, you'll spend as much here as you would at any fast food joint. I highly recommend it!

Robust Flavors.... I had the "S-14" sandwich! (Stir fried turkey, onion,ham,bell pepper,mushroom & swiss). All on an awesome gently toasted croissant.
The flavor blend was fresh, crisp & bold! The customer service was phenomenal. The vibe...a very clean, quiet place to enjoy a Cafe du Monde' blend coffee, sandwich & the days paper. No surprise why they've won (2) Blue Plate awards.

Finest in Blended Cuisines. The French saw Indo-China as it was known then as their 'province' and consequently for 240 years flavors and cuisines blended with I dare say the Vietnamese becoming better at many forms of French cooking than the French were using native herbs and delicate flavors to enhance what was once upper pedestrian in France to a level of flavors unheard of by the French who still see themselves as gourmets. This fine bistro has been visited as frequently as possible by my family and every friend we can drag in for over 15 years. Superb would be an understatement! Family owned and operated all these years not only have they brought the sandwich to a celestial level but serve the only true French Onion Soup I have found in my twenty plus years in San Antonio, a sensual asparagus & crab bisque and among the finest creme puffs - bringing to mind each time a plethora of memories of the finest pastries from Vienna to Paris. Their bread does the same making each sandwich a delight!
On the menu there were only two bahn mi options but they were able to sub the pork for chicken and scrambled eggs on another sandwich. The guy who rang me up went back and made my sandwiches right away. They gave options of soup (French onion), salad, or classic lays chips for a side. I chose the classic lays and took my sandwiches to go.
I was so starving I broke into my sandwiches as soon as I got to my car and was pleasantly surprised that they wrote which sandwich was which!!! Thank you guys because no one bothers to do this anymore! Also, thank you for having soft bread. The custom ordered scrambled egg bahn mi was so delicious please add it to the menu!

I had not been here since the 90's but the food is just as good as I remember. Do not sleep on this place. If you are looking for a good sandwich but tired of the same old combos you definitely need to drop in. I can't wait to go back and try more things on the menu!
A cute and simple little French/Vietnamese sandwich shop. The sandwich was delicious with very crispy, flaky bread. You can tell a lot of effort goes into presentation, and the classical music really helps set the atmosphere. The sandwich came with a tasty cream puff and the cafe du monde has a really nice smooth flavor to it. I was really impressed with this place, and it may become a regular lunch spot for me.
We love the French Sandwich shop. The sandwiches are amazing. So delicious!! We will go out of our way to have a meal there. You also get a dessert with your sandwiche. A very yummy cream puff! Can't wait to go back!!

Trying to find a good breakfast/lunch place during the holidays before New Years and failed after driving to 2 closed restaurants. I decided to call this one before I started driving again, and it was open. For good reason. No regrets on the great find.
It is located in The Oaks shopping plaza, relatively easy to find between Fredericksburg road and Wurzbach road, between A&M nails and Smoke N More. It shares the parking lot with the rest of the stores in the plaza but there is usually plenty of parking.
Ordered the French Grilled Tuna sandwich w Croissant. Amazing! Came with a wonderfully prepared and presented small salad and a sweet pastry. The croissant is crispy on the outside and warm on the inside. The pastry was a cream puff that was very delicious. Such a good deal with everything included! Not a lot of store does that anymore bc it’s usually an added charge!
Owner Duc is from Vietnam and has opened for over 30 years (since 1990), extremely friendly and with great customer service.
Will definitely come back again when in the area to try out other dishes. Keep up the great work French Sanswiches!

I wasn't blown away, but it's good. The sandwiches are pretty small. The pickles are tasty, but the sandwich felt like it was going for something "elegant" with the light portions and presentation, but it didn't really accomplish that for me. Although it tasted very good, I felt a little underwhelmed.
The food was absolutely delicious! It's so flavorful and came out very fast. Enjoyable atmosphere with a French Vietnamese fare to choose from.
Can't believe it took me so long to try this place. Will be back soon for sure. I had the pork banh mi and it was fantastic. The pork was super flavorful and the veggies were crisp and fresh. Great combination.
Cute and unpretentious place. Tried the chef's banh mi and it was delicious. Veggies were perfectly marinated and meats were super tasty. For 8.95, meal came with soup or salad and a small puff creamed pastry. The French onion soup was a tad bland for me. But I would definitely recommend this place.
I stumbled across this place while searching a place for lunch in the medical center area and it did not disappoint. The coffee, soup and sandwich tasted great and everything was freshly made-to-order. The staff was very friendly and I’ll definitely be going back if I find myself in that area again!

Visited for the first time and loved the experience! Loved the detail they put into their presentation of our meal. It's a very peaceful environment and the food tastes as great as it looks.
This is a wonderful little, Vietnamese/French family-run, sandwich shop.
The decor is simple, but with an upscale feel (the music helps). The owners and staff are extremely friendly and attentive.
We had the tofu sandwich and roast beef sandwich, and we chose the French onion soup and seafood soup for our sides. Everything here is homemade and that rings though with the fresh flavors.
Each sandwich comes with your choice of a side (get soup) and includes a delicious, cream-filled pastry.
This is a nice spot to get sandwiches for lunch if you're in the medical center area.
