Review Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen - San Antonio

The ribs weren’t tender the broccoli and cheese was parched as if it were overcooked. The T-bone steak was mediocre, wasn’t cooked correctly. The shrimp were decent. But the croissants were hot and fresh and always delicious! I’ll stick to the Monte’Crisco. Service was decent!

We have been to other Cheddar restaurants and have had good experiences. This was our first time visiting together while traveling. The food was delicious! My drink was excellent! The waitress was excellent! When we thanked her for the great service, she said she had only been a waitress for 3 weeks. She was awesome!

Came here because we couldn't get into another restaurant on a Sunday. This was my first time ever at a cheddars. We had a short wait and whole we waited my coworkers were ranting and raving about the tasty crossiants. Nothing like getting some hot tasty free carbs! They were delicious and extra fluffy. I was a tad sad they didn't have a vegetarian option other than sides galore. Drink galore for a good time. Our server was very nice.

Came here two night back to back to order take out and have a beer while I wait. First night was a little quicker but second night seemed like the bartender was in over his head a bit. I ordered quick and simple to go orders but had to ask him to put my order in while he simply forgot about me while he was pouring beers. Service was over all okay but they need some more help if they’re going to be busy enough to forgot some of us at the bar. Will come again as the food was good.

Andres (manager?) was awesome. He greeted us at the door, helped us get a bigger, more comfortable table and checked on us throughout the meal, friendly without being intrusive. our server was Alex and while he was polite, seemed new and unfamiliar, but willing to learn. the food was delicious and had good portion sizes. the margaritas had a tad bit too much ice but were flavorsome. parking was adequate. would recommend and return.

This location did not disappoint. Everything was delicious! I ordered the cornmeal white fish platter. 😋😋

Really enjoyed my experience here. I was looking to enjoy a salad close to home and man it was delicious! Walking in was quick on a Sunday evening and our waitress was incredible. No long wait time and clean restrooms! (That's a must) My family and I frequent another location but, this location was really impressive. We will definitely return! 👍

2nd time eating here and I have to say the food and experience was fantastic!! Our sever was very very kind and brought everything out on time. Even when I was low on tea I didn’t even have to ask for refills, he brought it out every time! When the food finally arrived Mm-mm taste delicious 10/10 for-sure. Also I believe he’s the manager of the store idk but, there was a man who went to every table and asked how our food was and the experience was and that’s awesome. Not many managers do that and I like the fact he did that. I highly suggest coming here for dinner or lunch! Can’t wait to come again 👍🏻👍🏻

Light were a little dim, but our waiter was fantastic, full of personality AND competence, our food was delicious, nobody had any complaints.. out of a table of six, there were literally no mistakes. Love this place, loved our waiter!

The ambiance is nice, I wasn’t really expecting much from this place but It’s good for people who want to get the most out of their money type of place. Huge servings but expect fast food quality of food. It’s called a “scratch” kitchen but it feels like they just microwaved everything. I had the buffalo wrap, flavorful, I just don’t like deli chicken. Good selection of cocktails and drinks. Pricing was good so ill give it 4 Stars. The food came cold and the server didn’t pay attention to the fact that his finger is in my mashed potato but all good 👍 I’m not scared of a little germ in me just really hope he washed his hands 🙌 V The manager is very personable and assures you of good service. The service was fast, overall if you’re a foodie and want to try things that San Antonio has to offer, just skip this one.

Amber the manager absolutely made our visit turn 360° we were forgotten about for a while when we were first sat and waved her down without question we had a new server with a free appetizer and amazing service from then on. She 100% seems like an amazing manager and team player

I would've probably never wanted to return to cheddars after all the issues we experienced today(even with a supervisor), until A manager Amber saved the day with her genuine, lovely personality & excellent customer service!!! 5 stars & way to go AMBER!!

Met a couple of colleagues at the bar area. Everything from the customer service (hostess& waitress) to the food was amazing! Our food came out in a timely manner and tasted very well. My coworkers cleaned their plates. The restaurant is new and was very clean. I love this location because it's very convenient and close to my office. I definitely plan eat here again as a solo diner and with family, friends and/or coworkers!

You can’t go wrong with New Orleans pasta! And the croissants very delicious.

We have come to this location several times but during this last visit, we we're very impressed. The service by Jakob, our waiter, was outstanding. He was very friendly, immediately took our order and was attentive to our needs during our meal. He came by with refills to our drinks just before we needed them, also refilled our chips when needed. We didn't need to ask for much at all as he was already on top of it.<br/><br/>The food is always pretty good at this location and with the service being extra good this time, the food was hot when served and made it that much better. Much credit goes to Jakob for the incredible service we received today.

Given broccoli with brown spots, surprised they would even serve it. Rest of meals between me and my wife were mediocre at best. Not coming back.

Most of these dishes were very good. The baked potato was small by postmodern restaurant standards, but was certainly enough to satisfy. I got a small dish of butter, sour cream and a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese; these too were in sufficient quantities. I might have wished for more sour cream, and more cheese, but I know I didn't need them, and was satisfied with what was there. The green beans were cut in short segments and had been seasoned with a sprinkle of sugar, giving them a pleasant sweet character that I seldom have tasted. Most often, green beans in restaurants are kept on the heat in large batches, and end up being mushy. These, though, retained enough crispness to please. The broccoli was steamed with perhaps a spritz of olive oil, giving them and excellent flavour to go with their perfect crispness. They were florets cut from the stem, so I felt I was getting only the best parts of the plant.

Awesome customer service. I called in to place an order to go and the bartender Mike took my order. He was absolutely amazing. He recommended an additional sauce for my meal. While waiting at the bar for my order I ordered myself a drink while I waited , he made the most awesome drink and he did it with care. Others places make drinks like they are racing for fastest drink. I will definitely recommend this location to all my friends. Ask for Mike !!! 151 & 410 !!!

Disappointed. The salad menu had changed. That was the first disappointment. The salad we ordered was old. I did not like the dressing. The only part that was good was the croissant. The cookie monster was completely dry. I was used to the great food they had in College Station. Everything was fresh there, compared to this location. I do not write this to offend you. I just want you to be aware of it, so you can make the necessary changes.

We've always loved everything we've tried here! Great prices too.

Great family vaule. My 6 year old and 13 year old love to go here. The chicken tenders are always great and the servings are large. Not that we need a lot of food but we always have left overs. We love how we can take our family of 4 for only $40.00. We have gone countless times and our of all the times we have gone, I have to be honest twice we have had bad service but they made it right.<br/>We also love that we can invite and pay for my in laws whom we love to spend time with, again for a great value of about $65. Thanks Cheddars!!

Not the Cheddar's I know and love.. I've always been a huge Cheddar's fan, so I was pretty stoked when they started building a new location right by where I just moved. Well, I visited almost immediately after opening and, to put it in a nutshell, the experience was disappointing and the food "ok" at best. I figured this might just be them working out the kinks, them having just opened, but unfortunately this wasn't the case. My next visit acouple months later was the same story. Lousy service and long waits for cold, so-so food. Just pass on this location.

Terrible Service. I love going to Cheddar's because the prices are good for both food and drinks and it's a nice atmosphere that doesn't feel cheap. I was bringing my roommate for the first time and as usual it was packed. We had about a 45 minute wait, but that was 100% fine with me because I know the food and the service is worth it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case during this visit.<br/><br/>Our server, Melissa V, was absolutely terrible. When she first came to our table she quickly took our drink orders and ran off before we had a chance to tell her we wanted appetizers. I thought maybe she was going to ask when she came back, but she quickly dropped the drinks off and left for quite a while. All of her other tables were right next to us and it seemed like she was giving them more attention because they had more people (one had 4 the other around 5 people). She kept walking past us without asking if we were okay or offering us anything.<br/><br/>Because of the long wait until she asked us what we wanted to order, we didn't order appetizers or more drinks. We finally received our food which was good as usual, but when we were finished she offered us the check without even asking us if we wanted dessert, which is something I planned to order. <br/><br/>To make a long story short, we came to Cheddar's with the intention of spending a lot of money, but her service was so bad we ordered hardly anything. I understand it was busy and I was willing to be patient, but the times she did have us there were many opportunities to quickly take care of us. Hell, just walk past and see if we want another round of drinks. Takes no time at all.<br/><br/>Would not recommend this restaurant unless it's slow. It sucks to wait 45 minutes and get terrible service.

The Invisible Customers. We decided to try this restaurant for the first time ever about 4 p.m. today. We walked in and the hostess took us to a table and gave us menus. She told us our server would be over soon. So we looked over the menu and talked a while. We decided what we wanted to order and waited while we talked some more. We still just had menus and silverware on the table. We were thirsty and hungry, had no drinks or even a piece of bread. We could see employees going around occasionally serving other customers and bussing tables. But noone came to our table. Finally after we'd been there over a half hour, we started wondering, and DH got up and went over to the hostess at the front. After he told her we'd been waiting for service for quite a while, she told him that she had no server available, but said she'd see about getting someone to help us. We weren't the only table waiting impatiently, a table nearby had a couple that seemed to be in the same predicament...also just waiting around for quite a while with just the menus. After over five minutes, I noticed that there were a bunch of employees just standing around idly at the front near where the hostess was. That was IT!!!! I knew then...we were INVISIBLE!!! At least to every employee there in the restaurant, with the exception of the hostess. As we walked by this cluster of employees, I told them we were leaving. At that point we suddenly became visible to them again, but of course, it was too late! Congrats to the managers and employees of this restaurant. Cheddars deserves my nomination for Worst Restaurant Service of 2013!!!! We went elsewhere to eat and we were ecstatic to find that we weren't invisible at the other restaurant and got excellent prompt service.

Cheesy Restaurant. Nice newer building with the ambience of an updated road house. Most of the usual comfort foods are served. The cheese burger we had was O.K. The onion rings that we saw delivered to a nearby table looked wonderful . . . a huge stack for around $5.00 which would compare to Red Robin's version for $9.00!!<br/><br/>Would definitely go back when I am in the mood for (cheddar) cheesy.

Delicious. Had a great waiter and the chicken and waffles were amazing. Had a really good Painkiller from the bar during our short wait.

1. Very slow service. My drink took 25 minutes to reach the table... then to find out that I didn't like it. Our food took an additional 60 minutes to arrive to the table.<br/>2. Inaccurate service. My friends received two of the wrong drinks, including one incorrect refill. My food's sides were also not what I originally ordered.<br/>3. Average food quality for the price. One of my friend's claimed her broccoli was raw. My steak and ribs were very average, and cold on arrival.

In general, I love Cheddar's, but this location is way below par. The service is always non-existent, the tea tastes funky and the food is okay at best.

Wow! Loved It!!. We decided to check this place out. Caesar salad the best I've ever had. Had Steak and Chicken strips entree. EXCELLENT. Portions big, prices lower than Chili's. Slightly upscale "Chili's" vibe, but better food in my opinion. Place was ABSOLUTELY PACKED on a Saturday nite, but we got seated really fast. Wife had the braised beef roast. She said it was very good. Place was good enough for us to make a repeat trip for lunch two days later. I had the "Adult Grilled Cheese", pretty decent. Wife had grilled salmon and said it was the best she's ever had. I am clueless as to why other diners said they didn't like it. We had awesome food. Thinking about going back tonight!

Noisy, very run of the mill food. Quick in and out if you are in a hurry. That is it!

Good Cheap food and drinks! What's not to like? This is not a fine dining restaurant. That's why is called Cheddar's CASUAL cafe. You get what you pay for.

This place sucks.... I don't understand why this place is packed all the time.... I guess people like horrible service and even worse food... Our server or should I say WAITer because that's all we did all night was wait.... Our food came out and we didn't even have silverware... Couldn't even get a simple drink order correct.... I will not come back to this establishment.....

Great food, large servings, pleasant servers, and great decor at decent prices. We went twice during a long weekend in San Antonio for a golf tournament.

My 2¢. If you put an item on the menu for a side, make sure that you ALWAYS keep it in stock. There is no excuse for being out of something unless it is a special for that night.

Worst "nachos" ever! They have better bartender than chef...

Adequate for the price. We first discovered Cheddar's Restaurants in No. Ky., when visiting cousins there. We liked it so much, we ate there three times in one week! Then they built two in San Antonio and we were really excited about it. We have eaten there about 6-7 times, and I don't have any major complaints about it, but the food and service isn't nearly as good as at the Cheddar's in Florence, Ky. I think they need either a new manager or head chef. They are always busy, but I suspect this is because of the great prices. But if the other things don't improve, customers have lots of other choices in the area. I would rate it as 'adequate for the price.'

Service is really bad.. Not sure why it's so crowded..

Subpar menu and food. When this place first opened we were curious to see what all the fuss was about. The parking lot was always full so we decided to try it out. My husband tried their MonteCristo and it was pretty good. I got the Chicken Fried Steak, and it was not so great. THe steak was bland and the batter was soggy and oily. I rather enjoyed the fries, but one would expect more than great fries. I tried my sister's burger and it was also so-so. Nothing really stood out to us from experience in this place. It's not a place I'd go back to. There are many places serving the same items at better quality and taste. This was not such a great hit for me.

You get what you pay for. This place is cheap. $4 margaritas, $12 steak and shrimp, $9 salmon, etc. And the portions are pretty big. But the quality is on par with the price...pretty low. The drinks are weak, the veggies taste like canned military rations, and the fish and meat are not very fresh. I've never had a burger there, but it's probably a safer bet. The one thing I do love is the honey butter croissant. Mmmmmm. Most of the people who work there have zero personality but there are a few nice servers. The atmosphere is better than the average Chili's/TGIF/Ruby Tuesday. Otherwise it's pretty much just sit-down fast food.

The wait was horrible, the food service was horrible, the manager didn't acknowledge the poor service. I began to feel sorry for our waitress, because she was very nice even though everything else about this place was pure chaos. Don't waste your time or your money!

Found Cellophane Wrapping in Food. First time at Cheddar's. Food was good UNTIL my husband found cellophane wrapping in his chicken fried steak. Husband was too hungry so went ahead and finished his food. We are not one to make a scene but we did brought it to the manager's attention. To my surprise, normally, if the restaurant makes a mistake, they'd go out of their way to show how apologetic and embarrased they are of the kind of service/food they provide but really he didn't. He apologized and went on his way like nothing had happened. Not sure I'll come back - definitely shows how poor of a job they do with QC their food. I sent an email to Cheddar's Corporate but its been a week and no response so very disappointed. They don't seem to care about what had happened.

Sat at the bar on a Friday evening. Too many people, poor service, doing food prep behind the bar, very disorganized. Left after waiting 30 min.

Checked in on Sunday for lunch and luckily it was early enough before the crowds came. It looks like a big restaurant from outside but once you get in, its not so big. So tables fill up quick and by the time we finished it was standing room only in the waiting area and outside. Well since the only place that ever had a decent Monte Cristo sandwich closed here in SA, I had to try it here. I must say it was very good. We had a variety of entrees and the prices are fairly good, but the only thing that would keep me going back would be the monte cristo.

Good food for a great price.. We waited for 45 min on Saturday. The wait was worth it because we really enjoyed the food and service. The chicken tenders were moist and crispy. The ribs were pretty good. Will come back again for their chicken tenders!

OK, admittedly a 2 hour wait probably set the negative tone, but this place is bland, bland, bland. Obviously the moderate prices for the entrees keeps this new nortwest side eatery busting at the seams with clientele, but Willie's just a bit further west on IH 10 blows them away! Won't be long and the parking lot will look like Whataburgers, too bad....

Enjoyable experience. Cheddar's was my mom's choice for her birthday lunch, and I am sure glad that we went. As soon as we walked in the door I was pleased. It was clean and nicely decorated. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. We started with the spinach dip and a round of beers. What was great is that you can get a pint for $2.99. I had the chicken pot pie, my husband had the ribs, and my mom had the lemon pepper chicken. We all loved our meals and could not have asked for more. For the amount and quality of food you receive, the prices are wonderful. We were all so full that we did not get dessert, but next time I will try and save room!
