Review Guajillo's The Shortcut To Mexico - San Antonio

I tried their location in Corpus last year. The couple working in Corpus told us their other location was in San Antonio. I was visiting SA for the weekend and stopped in before driving home. I stopped in on a Monday around 1215. The place was packed, so I knew it would be just as good as the CC location. Had the cochinita pibil, it was so good! Big portions. I will be back the next time I visit! We had the pozole Rojo and Verde in CC. They were so good! If you like spicy pickled onions, you will love them here.

What a mexican food delicacy. This surely brings all the Mex without the Tex. If you want some super tasty Mexican food and you are in SA, then this place is a must!. The cochinita pibil is absolutely amazing! Also, don't forget about the flan

First time and definitely not our last! Food was amazing! Service was fast and it was busy which was surprising but amazing! And I’m very picky with my soups and rice it was perfect in my eyes

I was visiting from Austin and wanted some good Mexican food, not Tex-Mex. I'm so glad I found this place. The salsa was insanely good; very spicy, but the garlic flavor was addictive. I had to take some home with me. The pozole verde was hearty, well-seasoned, and the serving was huge. Perfect for a rainy day. The waiter was also very attentive despite the restauraunt being busy. I'll definitely have to come back and bring the family.

Foods are tasty and service is just very great there! Plates are very big too so that you can bring some back for another meal. Things are not the most reasonable. We got two entrees and two non alcoholic drinks and it was over $50 (including tip) so you need a higher budget for this place.

First time here, but definitely not the last. Very welcoming, and FAST, friendly service. Great pricing from their lunch menu, with each entréecomingw a full-size soup, either fideo ortortilla, FREE CHIPS, AND DELICIOUS SALSA!. I had the Tinga & my buddy the chilaquilles w chicken. We were both very pleased w our food. Not huge portions, but enough. I liked it! Got to come back and try more. 🔥👍

Don't come here expecting TEX-MEX food. This place serves traditional Mexican food. We're talking Mexico City flavors. They offer a good daily (Mon-Fri) lunch special from 11am-3pm. Complimentary chips and super hot salsa. Their lunch special plates come with a bowl of sopa de fideo or sopa de tortilla. The tortilla soup is NOT tex-mex. It's made with a red chili broth, white cheese, and a few tortillas, but tasty (para la cruda). If you're watching your salt intake, you might want to skip this soup. If you're looking for a good remedy for a hangover, then this soup will hit the spot. Speaking of hangover, their Monday Michelada are out of this world! It'll have your mouth dancing!! It's NOT your typical Michelada. Their bistec a la Mexicana and tostada de fish ceviche are good. Their service could use some improvement, as we waited over 4min for our server to take our drink orders. The prices are at market average but to save money, pay with cash. The ambiance is casual. The place could use a little TLC tho. Come check them out for yourself!

The food here was superb. The salsa had the perfect amount of spice. Had the Al pastor tacos and I’m probably gonna have to come back tomorrow

I haven't been here in over 10 years due to the fact that in the past my vehicle was towed from the abandoned property next door at that time. With that said I was very happy to visit back to erase that horrible memory. I ordered the fideo soup and for my plate I order cod in tomato sauce with beans and rice. It was very spicy and very very good. Just like I remember it to be. Everything was really good and I would love to come back. Just fair warning .. if you park in the wrong spot you may be towed. Unlike when I was towed now there are warning signs everywhere.

Food and service were both amazing here. I got a tamarind margarita with a tajin rim (the next time I came here they recommended I get a chamoy+tajin rim and it is even better that way) to start with the chips and salsa. The salsa was delicious and spicy. The tamarind margarita was nice, good flavor and the tajin added a nice touch. Got the Cochinita Pibil for my dinner. Was delicious. I made tacos with the pork, pickled onions and lime. Tender and flavorful. I recommend this dish. I was attended to by two waiters. They made the visit extra special. Service was speedy. Both were very kind and the younger waiter I had was talkative and recommended me the lamb soup for my next visit. Will definitely by back to give it a try.

Okay listen. I live in Nebraska. I’ve spent my share of time here in San Antonio. I’m staying at a hotel close by. I woke up this afternoon and asked the hotel staff where the best “Tex Mex” restaurant is close by. He recommended this place. You’ll see in the photo why this made me laugh when I arrived. I’m so happy right now. My tastebuds are dancing. I immediately ordered a top shelf Margarita to try it. Heavy pour, delicious flavor. I am extremely picky with my margaritas and this one absolutely nailed it. I switched to tequila on the rocks after as I do not like much sugar. The chips and salsa were served promptly when I sat down. While the chips do not appear to be homemade, they are light and airy and the perfect saltiness. The salsa…lol. I can’t even. It’s tasty, got some serious kick to it. It’s perfect. They aren’t shy with the chiles here. I asked the waitress what to order. She recommended the dorados de frijole or fried bean taco. Excellent. These beans are fabulous. Then I ordered the Asada de Puerco which is spicy pork served with tortillas, rice and beans. Okay. Just delicious. Great flavor and very tender. Only a little kick n the pork compared to the salsa. The rice was perfectly cooked and the beans….guys the beans. I immediately told my husband how happy I was. Food is my love language. He’s back in Nebraska and knows how much good food makes me happy. I highly recommend this restaurant. I will be back the next time I layover here.

Great taste and the salsa is to die for. Service is very accommodating and friendly. Lots of drinks and full meals to choose from, came here with my 2 y/o daughter and wife. The whole family ate good and left happy. Some people come asking for some non sense “Mexican food” and get mad because “they gotta make the food themselves” 🤦🏽‍♂️ if you and your no sabo canned food eating kids don’t know what to order from a true Mexican place then this restaurant prob not for you.

Run don’t walk to have some amazing food here! It’s a great place to have some real tasty food. Service is really great, ask for Oscar! Have been eating here for years and it has been consistently delicious! Pro tip: add lime to the salsa for a extra bang!

I’ve been coming to this restaurant since it first opened many years ago. Food is excellent and nothing else like it in town. Salsa is so good. Tortilla soup is not your typical style but something I must have with every visit. The broth is excellent. My wife loves the fideo soup.

Highly recommended by a friend for delicious authentic Mexican food. We went on a Friday for a late breakfast and ordered the tortilla soup and chilaquiles special. The soup was savory with roasted chiles. The crispy chilaquiles were served with refried beans and beef or shredded chicken. Went back two weeks later and got their tacos de alambre special and it was absolutely delicious! Will definitely return!!

Great salsa and margaritas. Loved our serve. Entrees are interesting - not your everyday Tex-Mex. Everything I had was delicious.

One of the best, authentic Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. Everything was fresh and delicious! The guacamole is addicting, make sure you order more than 1 if you don’t plan to share! The salsa packs the perfect heat and flavor. Tasty Frozen margaritas to go. Overall, this is one of our favorite take out spots around.

NOT AUTHENTIC MEXICAN food! BORN and RAISED Mexican here folks. I am very surprised with the high praise to this place. I chose to visit this restaurant because of it and the Zagat rating, but was truly disappointed. The Mole poblano tasted like the one my mom would make from a jar. The Horchata and Tamarindo Aguas frescas where made from instant powder (our waiter corroborated this) and tap water (San Antonio's tap water has a funky taste, and purifying it is a must to get rid of the taste). The rice was instant white rice, the refried beans tasted like the dehydrated beans my family keeps in our food storage and everybody's food was closer to cool than to hot. My family of five ordered: Mole poblano (unimpressive), Mahi with shrimp on top (the fish was dry, even with the generous sauce on top); Bacalao (cod) (the sauce was too spicy (hot) to enjoy the fish; Enfrijoladas ("they ain't like mama fixed 'em" was pretty much what my son had to say about them) and a cheese quesadilla for the 6 year old (he liked that one). The reviews also indicated that the place was fairly inexpensive. Well, $95 is not inexpensive for our family, especially when we couldn't eat nor drink 50% of the total order. The service was good, but not good enough to justify another try. This is a no repeat for our family.

I have only eaten there once, but I will definitely be back. I had the chilaquiles with beans and tortilla soup. It was very delicious and flavorful. The only thing that could have made it better would have been a bigger Plate! The waiter helped me through the menu explaining all their offerings and gave me his recommendations and came back to check on me at least 4 times . Very Clean establishment and a great menu of delicious dishes!!! If your in the area of Blanco and 410 I highly recommend you stop in ,and if your not in the area , Get yourself in the area!!! You will not be disappointed.

Chilaquilles with chicken is to die for. My friends and I make it a point to stop in when we roll through San Antonio. Usually though we just suck it up and make the 45 minute drive from San Marcos to enjoy the delicious grub.

We have been coming to the place for 10 years. The food is awesome and the waiter Oscar and waiters Florea treat us like family ever time we come. My mom loves the Margarita's and the food is great.

Bring the tacos back! Tacos alambre were my favorite. I came in from out of town and stayed an extra day to have lunch here only to find out my favorite meal and all tacos were taken off the menu. I tried the bistec, but the meat was not good my food was cold. My experience today was not a good one like it used to be.
Rosie Garza-Ramirez
I definitely loved it. BUT prices for the amount of food is outrageous. Mini tacos and a regular plate. Shouldn't be $41. Will we go back probably. But will it be our first choice nope. But it is good food. Good service. And family friendly. Music is loud but I guess it just depends where you sit also lol. It would of been a 5 but prices kill me for the amount you get lol.

Birria, rice, lime, ciantro added. It was over the top best soup ever. Our waiter was great also
Sandra R Salazar Garza
The place was great. My waiter was amazing and had a great personality. He was very attentive.
Sharon Shaw Bayless
Granted this is an authentic Mexican restaurant but there was no alcohol in the margaritas, no burritos or enchiladas on the menu, and the hottest salsa I have ever tasted that burned my mouth. We'll go to a good Tex Mex restaurant next time.

Some of the best Mexican Food without having to cross the border Got to try the Albóndigas plate 👌👍🏼
Zoe Putnam-Vilicic
Absolutely wonderful authentic Mexican food. So far I have tried 4 dishes and have enjoyed each one: mole, green mole, poblano quesidia, beans over chicken and rice. Definitely a must try In San Antonio.

Service was good. Didn't care for food was pricy and very bland no flavor at all.

I can't believe the tacos are gone. It makes no sense. I will need to find a different place for tacos that are affordable. My husband I ordered tacos, two fruit waters, and a side order of nopalitos and it cost us $45. Way too much for tacos. They needs to change their model.
