I fell in love with sushi after a friend took me to another place in town that I won’t name. After going back the 2nd time the unagi zapped the inside of my mouth when I ate it, so, I was a little nervous to try the unagi at Momiji. After telling the server about it, she assured me that everyone at Momiji is trained very well about how and where to cut the eel and that I wouldn’t have a problem. I wanted so desperately to eat unagi in excess like I had done the first time I tried it.
When she brought it out, I was reluctant but hopeful. I dang near had a panic attack taking that first bite but it went down fine without an issue. I’ve been back to eat my fill of unagi time and again many times over and have never had a problem. Yes, the rumors are true-Momiji IS a hole in the wall place, but their food is outstanding and the wait staff was courteous. The food does take a bit of time to prepare, but when it comes out it’s a thing of beauty. The prices are a tad higher than the first sushi place I went to, but it’s worth it to not get zapped eating my favorite thing. �
Even writing this review is making my mouth water!! Too bad I’m broke or I’d be there having lunch right now!
I tried sushi in several states from the fanciest to the most down to earth. Mommy juice is the single best sushi bar I’ve ever had the pleasure to enjoy. The staff is wonderful and efficient and the food is to die for. Thank you.
I was really impressed with this little place. The food was really good. The service was great. Fast, friendly and knowledgeable. It was just a tiny little place that you would miss if you didn't know where it was, but I would highly recommend finding it!

I love that this place is open till midnight all days. I work a late swing shift and don't get dinner til late. This normally leaves me with Taco Bell or McDonald's as a choice. I like that I can eat in, have it delivered to my house since I live in north Salem or order it to go and pick it up at the drive through if I'm in a rush and don't have time to dine in. The restaurant is a little dingy and cramped and is often packed (good sign in my book). This is the best sushi in Salem, which surprised me. My co-worker and I always get the sushi tower, which is AMAZING!!! This week we also paired it with the Spinal Tap roll. I don't know what was in it, but the roll was recommended by some patrons in the parking lot leaving as we were heading into the restaurant. It was the best sushi roll I've ever had in my 15+ plus years of eating sushi around the world, I could not recommend it more. I was skeptical of this place at first because sushi and crepes? Weird combo, but I'm so glad I tried it. I know the restaurant looks trashy, but they're clean. The crepes aren't very good, it tasted like bleach so I'd skip them. But the rolls are phenomenal and reasonably priced (especially during happy hour), give it a go!
Good, not great.. Momiji's new location is much better than the previous. There is ample seating with an open aesthetic. The food is consistently good, although the restaurant smells strongly of fish indicating lack of freshness. My plated orders have all been fine though. The wait for my sushi, on my last 2 visits, has been long, even when the restaurant is nearly empty. The most recent visit both chefs took a break before filling my order, even though I was the only ordering customer. The service is only adequate and that extends to the chefs, you must ask for everything, as the question "can I get you anything else?" Will not be asked to you. I hope the service and timeliness improve because overall this is still, probably, the best sushi in Salem.
We have been coming here since they first opened. When Bruce found out I couldn't eat gluten he set out to have gluten free soy sauce and went as far to start making gluten free tempura. The guys there are like family to us now. We love them. They always go out of their way to help. We have gotten to try different samples of Sake even before settling on which bottle to buy. After trying all the other Sushi places in Salem we will never go anywhere else.
Best Sushi in Salem. Momiji on Silverton Road is a great place for sushi. I've been several times and am always happy with the service and food. Everything is fresh and made to order. The poke salad (with Ahi tuna) is my absolute favorite dish.
I don't understand the inconsistency between various local restaurants of the same name, but the Silverton Road location definitely gets it right. It's an odd location, but don't let that dissuade you. Give them a shot and you won't be disappointed.
I was seated immediately, and attended to courteously :). Although hearing about the servers "hot and nasty" facebook bomb wasn't what I was wanting to hear, the sushi was excellent. Rice correctly made and flavored well. The salmon was spectacular! I hadn't had it as well made since being in Japan. One thing that I wish they did was to add the wasabi to the rice like in traditional Japanese sushi, but quite understandable why they do not. The chef learned how to cook locally. He does not seem the talkative type but smiles kindly. I do not recommend the crab dishes. It seems like they know all the customers that come in, which gives an inviting tone to return. Got a banana crepe to go, overall the experience was enjoyable. I felt as if I was in the honch of yokosuka again :)
Yum yum yum! The lunch special is great. It's two full rolls for a little over $7. I also had the vegetable tempura which was nothing extraordinary, just what you would expect from a vegetable tempura. Their menu is huge and they always have new specials. They also offer all you can eat sushi for $25!
