Even though I prefer nyc and stl style pizza to deep dish, I decided to try this place. The deep dish was pretty good, and they don’t skimp on the toppings, with that said I have definitely had better deep dish in Chicago.

I LOVE BLACKTHORN! It may take a while to get your pizza, but the wait is worth it! tons of cheese, peppery sauce, and great toppings make this one of my St. Louis pizza favs. I've been going here for years, and love it every time!

Holy Jumpin! Why didn't anyone tell me about this place before?!?! You're probably wanting to know how the pizza was? Words can't describe the cheesy and saucy flavors that sang glorious songs with every bite. I'm pretty sure the Chicago style pizza contains ingredients that were used at some point in time to base a religion off of. I just snuck out of bed and had a leftover slice... the wife wanted that slice.... That's how good this pie is. Garlic cheese bread? Amazing. Just replace "pizza" at the start of this review with "garlic cheese bread" and you have another story to tell your grandchildren years down the road.

Black Thorn... Your pizza men should enlist in the military, because I'm pretty sure the could single handedly defeat ISIS/ISIL/Al Qaeda with one swift shot from those dough making hands.

Call in before you arrive. You know those nights you don't want to get "dressed" for dinner, Black Thorn is the place to go. I would rate the look and feel "lower" than a dive bar. Come as you are, and you will fit in just fine. If you have a drive and know the menu- they will start your pizza before you arrive to reduce that hour long cook time. Ripped bench seats, styrofoam plates, plastic forks = all part of the fun that you will not get anywhere else in STL. Take a risk- the pizza is amazing!

Not #1 but it's up there.. We liked the pizza, music and atmosphere. We were there on a week night and it wasn't busy. The sauce has quite a lot of black pepper and herbs in it, which was surprising but pretty good. They use styrofoam plates and plastic utensils and cups. You seat yourself, then go up to the bar and order. Strictly comparing pizza, we still prefer Dewey's, though I like the dive bar feel of Black Thorn better, so it'll be hard to decide where to take our out-of-town friends next time we have a group to entertain.

Pizza Pizza!. The best place to get Deep Dish Pizza in STL. Black thorn definitely has a certain ambiance and culture of it's own -- the culture of the local pub. I'd go back again, and again, and again. Also, the night I was there the chef offered me a pizza at half price that had been made, but not picked up. Great customer service -- made this Chicago girl fee right at home :)

Chicago style "stuffed" pizza doesn't necessarily have a double crust, but Black Thorn bakes a good pie! Great crust and a zesty sauce

Always delicious pizza, Chicago style is our favorite. Each pizza will feed a crowd. We love the atmosphere and the arcade games. The one thing you need to know is that a Chicago style pizza takes almost an hour from the time you order. It’s a wonderful thing if you’ve got time and are willing to wait. If you have the time, the wait is 100% worth jt.

For me: Best “Deep dish” style in STL. It was a beautiful September night in St. Louis. A nice 79 degrees as I stepped out of my car at Wyoming and Spring Ave. The aroma of pizza hit me immediately from a store front with no name on it. It had to come from this building as my nose followed the smell distinctly. I stepped in the door to be greater by a most welcoming and positive energy that was the female bar tender behind the bar. The atmosphere was welcoming and family friendly. It was laid back. I sat down and had two beers while talking to the waitress. Shortly after, my pizza came out. 10” Chicago style, mushroom and pepperoni!!! I drove home salivating in my car as my precious cargo sat in my passenger seat. At home, I cut my pizza because everyone who is familiar with Chicago style knows to get it uncut so you don’t get your bottom soggy. Soggy bottoms get no bite. Common sense…. When I opened the pizza box it was love at first sight. The cheese was melted perfectly; the crust was something out of a magazine. It was cooked to perfection, so crisp, but so delightful at the same time. The sauce on this pizza must have been made somewhere in the deep spice orient then brought to Italy for its tomato treatment, and finally assembled by a master craftsman in the US for its final debut. The sauce is a deep burgundy tomato like sweet flavor that is slightly spicy but still tomato. I ate the whole thing that felt like it weighed 5 pounds. This pizza place does not belong in STL. This is something you would eat in New York, LA, Berlin, or its own Mecca of Chicago. This is too much flavor and goodness for the Midwest and can only explain the bad reviews this place has gotten. Maybe the people of the bad reviews had Covid, or a tragic ENT related accident that caused them to lose all sense of smell, taste, and texture and I mean that in the most respectful way. If you had a bad experience, give this place another try. You should try everything twice in life to make sure you don’t like it. And I mean everything. 😉

What can I say about Blackhorn? Chicago style pizza thick yet sauce is not on top, the cheese is. This place is a pub and pizza place pizza garlic bread and salads only. Deep dish and thin pizzas the thin is more like original crust. Secret special sauce is what they say. It’s pretty good on the pizza, a little spicy. overall not too bad atmosphere is pretty cool you get to sign your name anywhere in the restaurant. On the brick or on the walls. Wherever there is space. They have some cool arcade games. Parking can be difficult to find. There’s no parking lot and you have to park on the side of the street. They seem to be crowded on a normal weekday so I can only imagine on the weekend.

The pizza is very good it is a ton of cheese and one slice will fill you up. They do not skimp on the toppings. Such a great value on food.

Very good pizza. Comparative to Chicago style except that they don't have any non pork meats except for Hamburger. We go to Chicago so my non pork eating husband can .eat a good pizza. Chicago style often have chicken or turkey sausage alternatives for non pork eaters. But pound for pound if that isn't an issue it's a good pizza worthy of trying. My husband got a thin hamburger and pineapple. He wasn't as impressed. Said it may have been better as a thick crust. The place is hard to find in that there is not sign. You gotta just check in at the bar because no one will seat you, give a menu or check on you if you go sit at a table. So the customer service could be better.

This pizza was amazing!! We ordered to go and the order/pickup process went smoothly. We wished we dined in because of the atmosphere inside. Would definitely recommend and come again!

Well, now, you talk about a loaded Chicago style pizza big time. Meat lovers have so much meat, and one piece will do ya. Warm big time, you don't have to worry about it getting cold. Got the 16-inch, lordy 12 or 15 would have been more than enough. Call it in as it takes a while to cook. Only 4 pieces are gone on this one. You can freeze it too. Shout out to the kitchen, scumptous as always. Update: I'm not sure what has happened. I'm gonna take a guess as I'm so disappointed in their pizza now. The crust looks pre-made & has cardboard taste to it, and the toppings looked to be measured out also pre-made. If you cut it, you understand as it's not crunchy or the toppings don't fall off like they use too. It actually peels the crust and toppings off together, which seems to me that cutting corners is where they have gone. As many times as I've eaten at Blackthorn, I never tasted pizza this bad that this is a big change, and it's not for the better at all. Sorry, but it's the truth prove me wrong as it used to be a great pizza joint, not so much anymore.

I can't recommend this place enough. Excellent Chicago style handmade pizza with a authentic st Louis city style atmosphere. Ice cold beer, and the flavors and quality of the pizza is top notch. Dave Difani is a great server and very attentive. Be warned, these pizzas are so thick they take about 45 minutes to make, so plenty of time for a few drinks. One pizza is plenty enough for 4 people.
