Not my first visit here, more specifically to this outlet. Amazing Italian fare paired with excellent service and a wide wine selection. Few favourites from my visits, the Crab Bisque, flavoursome, creamy, and a meal by itself.
The buttered prawns were a delight and the Chicken Rigatoni I tried was subtle with flavours & super delicious.
Beautiful ambience, especially the outdoor seating during summer, needs an early booking though.
One thing I regret is that, in all my visits I get so stuffed up with the entree’s & main, I never get to their selective dessert selection, waiting for my next visit to US to check the desserts off my list.
Incredible service and food! We had a great waiter who really upped the charm of an already charming place! He really made us feel like we were special guests even though we were just average haha! As for the food, I can highly recommend the French onion soup, the seafood risotto, and the bread pudding. Also had a bite of my husbands chocolate cake: A+! If you have the coin, go here!

Tonight we said farewell to a dear friend who is relocating...while the table near us shared a social birthday with their young family...and in the corner a group of gentlemen enjoying each other's company after a day in the corporate world. In a cozy an intimate environment, you feel special in your moment at Charlie Gitto's.
The staff and service were friendly, prompt and attentive. They made great recommendations at every course and also knew when not to pester us during conversations.
The food was delicious! Our toasted ravioli was delightfully crisp in the outside with a sift pillowy meat filling. The red sauce here is slightly sweet which lightened our heavy meal up. It was also great for dipping bread!! Oh! And the lightest whipped butter for bread!! Heavenly! Salads were expertly dressed and one could taste the freshness in lettuce, cheese and croutons. The cheese cannelloni had the texture of silk!!! The lasagna was generous and flavorful (highly recommend). The tortellini was flavorful with the fresh pancetta! Canniloni's were smooth and creamy, while the carrot cake was packed with fresh ingredients...looking dense it was actually quite moist and light with the smoothest, light cream cheese frosting ever!
I would highly recommend the original location if ever in The Hill. They have ample private parking lots and a beautiful outdoor seating area.
I really find it difficult to express how much I love this restaurant. Dining here is a special occasion, special occasion or not. The service from the maitre d' to the busboys is top notch in every respect. The atmosphere is very 'Godfatherish',w/ simple decoration & very closely-spaced seatings. The wine list is large & heavily Italian. While I don't imagine anything on the menu would disappoint, my favs are typically the creamy pasta courses, especially the one w/ mushrooms. Any special offering should be just that, & another house specialty is the veal Nunzio, topped w/ crabmeat. The dolci are also exceptional, incl the house-made gelati. If you want the classic Italian dining experience in one of America's best Italian neighborhoods, don't miss Charlie Gitto's on the Hill.
The food not subtle at Charlie Gittos. Basically every dish exuded bold flavors that I'm sure any Italian grandmother excels at. The "wisps" and "hints" of flavors that many have come to expect in new American cuisine is not what you should come here expecting. This is hearty, warm, loving food that is best enjoyed with a large group of family or friends. I'm quite happy I experienced Charlie Gittos - the contrast with many of the places I've eaten at in St. Louis over the years really stopped to make me think about the food I identify most with, and reminded me that the heart of food is pretty darn subjective. In terms of Italian-American cuisine, I think I'm starting to get it...but more "research" is needed.
It was such a great experience! One visit is all it took to become a favorite in the area. It was authentic, the food was beyond excellent. I can't even begin to describe the service we received... It was five stars. Thank you for the great time!
Very fine Italian cuisine. Went to the hill location one Sunday evening. The waiter was extremely friendly I wish I could remember his name. Food is wonderful my father ordered veal and I ordered steak and we split the two plates half and half. The only drawback is that it's pricy, but it's worth it.

I just love small intimate restaurants like Charlie G’s. What a treasure in St. Louis. Located in The Hill neighborhood this place has some great history to go along with the excellent food. Try the fried ravioli as it’s a St. Louis favorite. I had the lobster spaghetti and it was delicious. I definitely could have split the plate with someone too. Unfortunately I was flying home early the next day so I didn’t get to enjoy my leftovers. It’s pretty expensive but definitely worth the food and experience. Plan ahead and get a reservation as it can fill up days ahead of time.
After living in STL for 35 years we returned to visit our son. Only one day for my wife and I to have dinner out by ourselves. Charlie Gitto was our choice with Ted Drew's for dessert.
You just can't get fresh pasta and a cozy setting like we experienced here. The lobster pasta special was delicious. Angela took great care of us. We arrived early without a reservation and we were lucky to get a table.

The experience of my first time here was wonderful. We registered a table for two at Thursday night which was not crazy busy. We ordered some house special meals. Those were delicious. Parking was painful. Lol
My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant five times so far. Every visit has been an amazing experience. It's intimate, romantic, and family-oriented, with tasteful decor. We love every aspect of it. From the manager, who has a personal love for Cadillac cars, to our waiter Steve, who is knowledgeable and cheerful (I believe he's served us twice so far), everyone has done a wonderful job! Even the other waiter, whose name I can't quite recall - I think it starts with an E - engaged us in a small conversation about life and the true meaning of enjoying life every day, not just for Christmas. Every day is a blessing. I could never say or believe any negative feedback with this restaurant based off my own experiences as a returned customer. Unfortunately I had to cut our visit, due to an emergency and take food to go. But, the food was phenomenal even at home.

One of the best Italian restaurants in Saint Louis. It’s where those with deep pockets like to dine. This is not a cheap restaurant, but one that offers high quality Italian entrees at a premium price.
I previously lived in Sicily for three years with the US military and can attest the food here has the same real Italian quality. Pasta noodles were definitely made in house, and the Arancini’s were the real deal. However, the Arancini’s back in Sicily are probably 30% bigger and retail from street side vendors for like 2 euro. Oh how I miss Sicilian prices.
If you’re looking for real Italian food, this is the place, but be prepared to fork out some cash. But make no mistake, you’re getting all star service from the employees. Aside from our waiter, a number of other staff regularly stopped at our table to top off our glasses or take away appetizer plates. They also box your leftovers which is nice and comes with the premium price. Overall, the restaurant has a great atmosphere and I would definitely come back.

Visited Charlie for my nephews birthday. We enjoyed ourselves. Food was great. Order the French onion soup, the New York strip, Seafood pasta Suzanne and for dessert we gelato and the tiramisu.
While visiting St. Louis we visited this spot because several friends recommended it. The Hill is a community with many restaurants mixed in with the houses and limited parking so we took Uber in and glad we did, the streets were packed. When you walk in you know you are going to have a great experience. The decor and smell of an old Italian restaurant is so inviting. While the food is excellent and a lot to write about, the service is impeccable. They work in a team environment and it works very well. We started with the arancini which was cooked perfectly. I then had the lobster bisque and my wife had a tomato salad and both were excellent. I then had the lasagna and my wife had the chicken nunzio. The chicken dish was outstanding and I have to admit, the lasagna was not one of my favorite. We had gelato for desert and it was. Wry good as well. The price was very fair.
We had an amazing dinner here! We had a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant was a little loud, but it fit the overall vibe. The food was amazing. It turned us into terrible conversationalists because we just kept saying the same thing: "This is so good!" The calamari was incredible. Our sever was so kind and helpful. I had even been experiencing some annoying family drama a few hours before, and this meal was so good that I literally forgot all about it until I looked at my phone after our meal was done. Totally recommend! (As a mother, I would not bring my small kids here - it wasn't a bad place for kids, but a little crowded and tight).
