Pappy's Smokehouse truly impressed me with their amazing burnt ends – they were simply incredible! Their sides are fantastic too, especially the beans which are a must-try. There was about a 25-minute wait for lunch during my weekend visit, but it was absolutely worth it. I'm already looking forward to going back!
Probably don’t have to tell you this but Pappy’s is world renowned. I’ve been here a few times. This time I got the pulled pork and the beef brisket along with spicy pickles. Coleslaw and baked beans.
Another incredible meal. My favorite was the pulled pork. It had a ton of flavor and a little bit of kick to it, probably because I used a little bit of the hoodoo sauce. Brisket was excellent… tender… full of flavor. Nice surprise where the baked beans they were the best baked beans I’ve ever had. Delicious, a bit peppery and I loved them.
We would come back and eat here again, and again, and again.
We went on a Saturday morning, about 1130am, the wait to get in was about 40 minutes, which isn't too bad compared to some spots.
I've eaten a lot of BBQ, and smoke meats myself. This place is really good for ribs, but the brisket was about average, maybe a bit above. This might be because we received only lean meat from the flat and no fatty meat from the point (to be fair, I did not specify what I wanted at the register), which is more flavorful. Or it could have just been an off day, smoking meats is a science and will not come out identical every time.
Anyway, the prices were reasonable, and there is plenty of seating inside, and some more outside if the weather permits. I really enjoyed the sauces they have available as well. So much so that I bought some to take home with me. I'd also like to add that the cookie they sell for $2 was awesome.
I don't think you would regret making a trip here, we definitely did not.
Pappy’s Smokehouse has some of the greatest BBQ that you can get anywhere, period. I’ve been to Texas and Tennessee, and while it’s great there too, this is something on another level. The flavors are so rich without being too much of anything. It’s all balanced perfectly with the smoky and tender meats.
They have lots of great options for trying multiple meats which I highly recommend. Above all, the ribs are hands down the best ribs I’ve ever encountered in my life. The meat falls off the bone and has a depth of flavor which is unparalleled. I’ve also enjoyed the burnt ends, pulled pork, and sliced brisket. The sides are all high quality, but for me, nothing is better than their sweet potato fries and fried corn. On the table there are 4 different BBQ sauces that all enhance the flavor if you do it right. I love the hoodoo sauce which is reminiscent of a jerk sauce. They also have have Fitz’s sodas available which enhance anything you’re going to eat here. I wish they’d do a root beer BBQ sauce collab someday.
As you enter the building, the smell of the sweet and smoky BBQ flavors hit your nostrils and there’s no going back. There are 5 large smokers along the front of the building which are constantly in use and impressive. The restaurant itself is always clean and the employees are so incredibly polite and helpful even during the busiest times. It can get very busy, but there’s never a problem getting a table. You might have a bit of a wait depending on when you go. If you go later in the day, don’t be surprised if certain meats are sold out. That’s the price to pay when the food is this fresh and this high quality. This is required eating for any carnivores, but especially if you’re visiting and only have a few meals to chose from. You wont regret it!
AMAZING BBQ!!! Best one I have ever had in USA so far. There was a long line but moved fast, 20min. They ran out of burn ends, so we need to come back!
This place has a reputation for having the best ribs in St. Louis (and maybe the world), and I think that reputation is well-deserved. The ribs were so tender they were falling off the bone and tasted amazing. The sides were good too, but obviously the ribs were the star. They have a really efficient system, so even though the line can get long it moves pretty quickly. If you’re looking to save money, a full rack of ribs with 2 sides can feed 2 people quite well.
Great BBQ, but still not the best I have ever had. I ordered 2 meat combo (ribs + burnt ends), sides: coleslaw + Pickles. I assumed that the combo would include a 1/4 or single slab of meat + other meat selection, it came with TWO slabs of ribs and a skimpy portion of not very ‘burnt’ ends. There is no way I could eat all this, so clarify server if they offer a smaller portion combo. The sides were good, but nothing above ordinary. Service was EXCEPTIONAL, would give 6 stars if could!
Atmosphere was fine. As always Tell’em OuttaTownTony sent you via Google maps.
We showed up about 1 and it took us about 30 minutes to get in but once we did we had our food in less then 5 minutes! We had a 1/2 order of ribs that were amazing! I see why they are the best in America by food network. They don’t even need sauce! We also had the chicken. Being a chicken lover I was not disappointed so flavorful and NOT dry at all. The brisket was ok not bad but being from Texas it was not my kind of brisket, it was lean and needed sauce for flavor but not bad… just not Texas brisket. Everyone was sooo kind we greatly enjoyed this place!
Food was ready in less then 5 minutes after ordering. We ordered a full slab meal, a frito meal and a baked potato meal. It was all amazing!! Would definitely go back if I'm ever in town again!
The best bbq restaurant in St. Louis. We’ve been to this place several times yet this was our first time successfully getting a table. Undoubtably, their food was awesome. We tried the full pork ribs, burnt ends and pork. The ribs were soft and juicy. We also love their sides. I recommend the corn and sweet potato fries. We also tried all of their bbq sauces, they were all great with the meats.
