I felt compelled to review the food from Green Boheme because I'm finding it to be life changing. I need to share my story in order to put the review in context. First, you should know that I am a grown woman who doesn't like her veggies. A chunk of tomato goes in my mouth and I will still make a face like a 5 year old being forced to eat something she doesn't like. So, how did I come to eat, dare say, even enjoy, not just any raw vegan food, but Chef Brooke's, Green Boheme fare?I've been attempting to put my health back together now for years. As a part of healing my diet has evolved, or rather I should say, shrunk to the size of a pea. I've been reactionary with most food, in spite of all my healthy changes, like eating gluten free, dairy free, (recently egg free) trying low protein, high protein, no sugar, no caffeine, juicing, smoothies, organic food, alternative grains, then grain free, soaking my nuts, sprouting stuff, removing chemicals and toxins from my food and home. Attempting to feed myself has been an ongoing, constantly-morphing, upsetting, unpleasant, full time job. I have regularly been very ill as a result of food, even food that is supposed to be "healthy." A few years ago I found the Green Boheme in Sacramento. My mom took me to try it. The first thing I noticed, before any food arrived, was the total lack of stress over ordering. There was nothing I had to protect myself from! No soy, dairy, gluten, no white sugar, white starchy stuff. What's more, as I read the information on the table I understood that the food prep practices make the food more digestible, which is a bonus for not just those who have struggling digestive systems, but for any human body! Later, after eating, I noticed the absence of the ever present gurgling, stomach pain, or the "leaky gut" symptoms which are chronic with Lyme disease. When GB opened in Roseville, I was going through a rough time, with no energy to navigate food issues, learn new tricks, shop or prepare. As part of a fundraiser to help me heal Lyme, I was blessed with donated money. At that time the restaurant was offering meal plans so I decided to try a 3 day plan despite my disdain for vegetables. I was desperate! Not only did I not hate the food, I was shocked to find out that I really liked it. Brooke's meals are so yummy I forget what I'm eating is good for me. Within the first week on the plan my digestive pain began to lessen. Thanks to Brooke, before a recent surgery I used raw vegan food as my surgery prep and during recovery I used it as surgery medicine. Surgery with Lyme is supposed to make a living hell out of recovery. That was not my experience. Now that my body is being supported through the nutrients it has so desperately needed it was able to handle recovery better. Talk about a miracle! Now~ about the food. It's delicious! Faves: The Tostada. Fab! The Pizza. These remind me of roller skating days. Who didn't love the mini pizzas at the rink? These healthy versions taste similar to me. The Kraut Sandwich. Yeah, really. I like kraut now. The love of my life really likes the cabbage burrito. Could easily be 2 meals. The BLT is a constant yum~ my mom's favorite entree. Desserts: My mom and I are NUTS for the Lemon Cheezecake and Choc Macaroons. The morning probiotic is addictive! The Vitality Juice is divine and the Green Peace smoothie calls to me.The Green Boheme is a beacon of health. I have watched it impact the lives of those around me as well. I am not the only one who saw a dramatic improvement of digestive issues. You are obviously reading the review of a raving fan. I've been trying to find something I could eat that wouldn't torture me and might improve the quality of my life for almost nine years! With raw vegan food, I'm seeing signs of gut healing and I'm prepared to gush about it to anyone who will listen to me! Thank you, Brooke, I am so grateful to you. I know in my heart you are aligned with your calling and this gift of yours stands to help many others.
