I have always loved this restaurant and, they have an awesome vegan menu too!! We are exploring a vegan diet and it’s really great to have a 100% cruelty free set of gourmet menu options. They do not sacrifice quality or variety. The cashew brie is delicious, the chickpea fritters are so good... what a treat. The meal has left me smiling ear to ear.
Great options for seating. In or out front or cool back patio. The food was excellent. The gourmet pizza put One Speed to shame I am sorry to say. And when my pinot grigio was not DRY enough for me the waiter and bartender (who knew quite a bit about wine it turns out) made it right no questions asked and charged only for the glass that I drank. LOVED IT. Will be back to decide if it is our "place."
This place is excellent. I was excited to try the foods on their vegan menu. The ambience is very nice with choices to sit outside, at the bar , or a table. I thoroughly enjoyed my creamy vegan "Mac n Cheese", "White bean Hummus served with grilled flat bread", and finished off with a yummy peach sorbet. The service was great and everyone working their is so attentive and friendly. Great place! A must try restaurant!
Fabulous food, atmosphere & beverges! Highly recommend this great place! Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu!
My husband and I decided to try this restaurant for the first time after I saw a picture of their short ribs. We loved it. I had the Short ribs and hubby has the Chicken and Sausage Cassoulet. Both were great. We followed up with an amazing Nutella Cake. You can never go ring with anything with Nutella in it!
By far the best part of our experience was the fantastic service provided by our server Trevor. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. When I was musing that I wished I could order 1/2 a beer (recently had surgery so need to keep alcohol consumption down) he chimed in and said he could do that. Trevor, you made my day!
Give this place a shot, it's great!
We had dinner Saturday, October 28th. Food was flavorful and plentiful. The burgers we're perfect for the guys, especially the spicy aioli! The Coq Au Vin was so delicious! The crispy skin, the veg bed underneath; mmm! The only thing missing was a piece of bread to so up the sauce! The fettuccine with the spicy meatball, such a perfect combination of flavors. Every dish delish! Our server was so attentive, without hovering. And she found us a candle for our daughters dessert as we were celebrating her birthday. We all had a wonderful culinary experience and we can't wait to return.
We just moved to Sacramento & this was a great find!! Our food was Amazing!! The Octopus Appetizer was really good! Our server, Cassandra was very friendly, easy going and attentive! We will definitely be back soon!
Really cool place, great drink selection and the quick bites were on point. I was impressed with the service and ambience. We would definitely be returning very soon!
Loved this place. We had great service and the food was awesome. We took the servers recommendation which was delicious - presentation was wonderful. We also had the most delicious desert - again a recommendation of our server. I will certainly be back - soon .
Went for BaconFest and were not disappointed. The breakfast pizza and eggs benedict on the BaconFest menu were both incredibly delicious.
The service was awesome. The scallops/risotto were to die for! The rib eye was alitlle fatty but good taste all around. Moscow Mule drink was my first and shall not be my last there. A great experience in Sacramento!
Excellent, from superior customer service to the freshness of the food.
We were greeted from almost every employee asking if we have been helped. This alone earned a return visit!
Whenever I am in town I make a point to stop here for at least one meal! Not only have I never had a bad meal here, but the staff is always friendly & welcoming. The atmosphere is very comfortable. As a single gal I tend to eat at the bar area of a restaurant instead of taking up a table and it always feels inviting. Today I had an heirloom blt with their garlic fries & it was delicious! Ask Noah to make you a whiskey sour...you will thank me!
H&L. This restaurant has character. My family had three of their pizzas all of which were memorable and were good. The Kabocha Squash Puree, Pear, Peppered Bacon, Almonds, Goat Cheese & Honey was sweet enough to be a dessert. I thought my 'Kill-Devil’ Avenue- Adam Leno as a dinner drink was very good.
Sooo Happy I found you. I am a vintage woman(77) also disabled. I stumbled upon Hook and Ladder. YEA YEA. Best food and service in Sacramento. I have been treated soooo wonderful by staff. The food is AWESOME I have been to lunch,,brunch and hopefully this week dinner. I also eat alone a lot. They all make me feel welcome and comfortable.I can't say enough about Hook and Ladder, except YUM YUM Milli
Had some amazing cocktails there tonight. I hope I get her name right-Gwen was very helpful and friendly. She suggested new drinks on there summer menu. Very refreshing not over sweet-all I can say is wow! I'm a beer drinker and decided to take a chance and I'm glad I did. Try The Pimm and gin cocktail and the bourbon and apricot drink. I forget the names but very nice.
Very hip, chill atmosphere. Cool, swanky, industrial decor. The lighting is very low providing a bit of intimacy. There is a bar with big screen tvs, and a little lounge area. The tvs do not distract from the overall atmosphere.
I have eaten here twice.
The first time was with a large group. The waitress was straight to business, the table was tended to in good order.
The second was with a friend. The waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Both visits the eats were absolutely amazing!!
So fresh, flavorful, and Mouth watering!!
The presentation was also nice.
I love this place!
I had the Crab Hash and it was wonderful. My only criticism was the potatoes could have been a tiny bit hotter. But that's just me. I prefer my food molten lava hot when it arrives and allowed to cool down in front of me. I love the wait staff at the Hook & ladder. They are knowledgeable about the menu, courteous, & attentive. The atmosphere is laid back, rustic/urban and cool. It's a hidden gem.
Best New Restaurant in Ages!. Finally somewhere in Sacramento that is not the "same old thing" or following the current trend. The atmosphere is laid out perfectly and is an enjoyable place to just sit and people watch and have a drink. The drinks are amazing, they have two of SacTowns best bartenders working here, I was surprised to see. I have visited twice both times for dinner but I believe they have weekend brunch as well and lunches. Dinner both times was flawless, service was attentive and pleasant and the food was presented beautifully and cooked perfectly. Both times have been the top two dinner experiences I've had in Sacramento in YEARS!!! My expectations for a newly opened restaurant are never high, theres always a "grace" period for errors, glitches etc. It's amazing that I had two wonderful experiences and this place has been open a month, maybe.... i think they must have amazing management and a solid professional staff, and whoever is in that kitchen.... ROCK ON!
H&L lives up to the hype. We came here for brunch in their back patio and it was hands down one of the best brunches we’ve had in Sacramento. Server was pretty attentive and friendly. We got the breakfast burrito (make sure to get some hot sauce on the side) which was incredibly tasty with balanced flavors of the house made chorizo, hash browns and eggs. The porchetta hash was amazing with perfectly cooked porchetta where there was a little bit of fat and still crispy and not dry at all. Drinks were made well too, we got the Bloody Mary and iced Irish Coffee. We will definitely be back!
We had a family dinner here. Several people arrived early and had seasonal cocktails at bar, all were excellent. Server was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Atmosphere is very pleasant and casual. Food was all very good. The fried chicken sandwich, brick chicken, garlic shrimp, and short rib pasta got raves. The branzino and bean dish was amazing. Everyone at table enjoyed their order. Dessert was a wonderful panacotta with berries. Perfectly balanced dessert to end a meal with.
Beautiful restaurant, we sat in a cozy little nook .They have a very seasonal fresh menu. We enjoyed tatertots as anstarter . Cute cubed potatoes freshly fried served with a creamy avocado ranch. Very nice. Our second course was technically a starter as well, but we like to share, so a scallop crudo in the hot weather sounded nice. Served in a shell a tasty dish of raw scallops onion & avocado was quite refreshing. Our main was a roasted black cod. Served on fresh bell peppers. Just a hint of spice was not overpowering..
The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance & the staff are well versed and descriptive when exploring the menu. Enjoy a nice date night here. Not too fancy but definitely upscale. Would we go back....yes definitely. 4 thumbs up.
Great spot in the downtown area. The wood fire pizza with hot salami or similar and chili oil was ridiculously good. Fried chicken sandwich was super crispy w the fixings and good crisped fries. The calamari appetizer was not what I expected and was more tossed into a farro style salad with greens on top. My blueberry sour cider was awesome too.
Met my husband here for a mid-week date lunch. It was a hot summer day, but we still sat on the back patio. It has a pleasant secret garden feel, with lots of greenery and shade. I had a Strawb-aries Season while we chatted and waited for lunch. Very refreshing, not too boozy or sweet. We shared the tator tots, which are fantastically square, and the pizzasalad. The pizzasalad was not my favorite but a nice lighter pizza option. I would certainly go back.
Went here for brunch and the experience was amazing. The server was very friendly and nice. We all offered the burger and it was decent, nothing too special.
However, we do enjoy the bubble board. It's kinda new and the juices were refreshing when mixed with the champagne.
Went during odd hours and enjoyed the place mostly empty. Split the two vegan options on the menu and got a hot toddy. Great service, very yummy food, and the vegan Ruben specifically reminds me of the lesson that everything I ever liked about meat was really just seasoning (so hats off to the chef!!). I'd happily go again since there's plenty of options to make non-vegans happy too.
Wow wow wow! What a wonderful surprise it was coming here! Extremely intimate if you’re sitting on the back patio (which we obviously had to due to covid.) Our server was very nice and attentive. He knew flavors and what paired well with each other.
Their cocktail list is really beautiful and presentation is outstanding. I got a Campari and soda along with some bitters in my soda water (which the server suggested because I have a very sensitive stomach ***thoughtful***).
We started with the Burrata which is on the dinner menu. Oh my lord this had to have been the best appetizer I have ever ordered! Fresh ricotta, golden beets, pistachios, sautéed fennel, and a balsamic reduction on toast. Truly, my heart fluttered!
My entree was the short ribs with horseradish whipped potatoes. Really delicious and hearty, it was a really cold day so that definitely warmed me up. My husband had the fried chicken sandwich which was equally as delicious. 10/10 would go here again. I’ve already started to tell my friends about this place and blasted my Instagram stories with our food pics haha! Cheers!! You guys are doing a great job!
Located in trendy midtown, this restaurant exudes a hip ambiance that's perfect for a delightful brunch experience. The charming string lights add a touch of magic, enhancing the overall modern appeal. The food quality is good and reasonable pricing makes it an good option for those seeking a satisfying yet affordable brunch spot.
Visiting from Midwest and daughter who
lives in Lincoln treated us. We will be back! Experience, atmosphere and food were all excellent!
Overall we had a good time with a couple negatives:
The atmosphere here is hip and fun, the parking is not.
They have a full bar, we ordered their ginger beer on tap and a mocktail, both were fantastic.
We ordered 3 small plates (Burrata, Octopus Al Pastor, Shoshito Peppers)and an entree (Chicken Sandwich) to share. The small plates were fresh, fun and creative... they were amazing. The chicken sandwich wasn't on par with the rest of the food, and as we got about halfway through we noticed it wasn't cooked all the way through, which brings me to our server, who might have been having kind of a stressful night. He slightly made fun of us when we were figuring out how to use the QR Code to bring up their website (they don't have menu's and we have new phones) and he really couldn't care less when we tried to tell him about the undercooked chicken. Despite this, we had a pleasant time with some great food.
This place has a really cute industrial vibe, and the food is great, with plenty of vegan and gluten free options. I got the brick chicken and it was amazing! The service was friendly, although the food took a while, but perhaps that was because business was slow. There were only one or two tables filled besides my friend and I, which was a bit surprising since we were there at lunchtime. The food, although delicious, is a bit pricey, and unfortunately all the parking nearby is 1 hour or metered, so I had to move my car halfway through my meal. I probably couldn't afford to eat here often, but it's a nice place to splurge once in a while. It's definitely worth checking out if you have a little time and you're not too tight on cash.
The food at Hook and ladder was really good. Tried their chicken Sando was quite delicious. Their fries is definitely unique, different from McDonald's and BK and hyper delicious and crispy. My favorite was the H&L burger! That guy is truly delicious.... Add some bacon to that brisket and chunky Patty and you get a food for the God so delicious I'm drooling just thinking of it.
Delicious food, good ambience, slow service. I read a review that the service was great, but that is anything but what we received. The waitress was really slow and I can't really blame her fully since she had an overly large area (about 30 people).
The food was delicious - from the appetizers to the dinners. I would give it another try.
Edit: the breakfast burrito has NO BUSINESS being this good.
First time here, wife and I came for happy hour. Delicious food and decently priced! The cheese steak and tater tots are highlights!
I attended my nephew's 40th birthday which was hosted at Hook and Ladder on October 21st of this year, 2023. The venue was right next to the restaurant, with a separate entrance that took us to a space upstairs. It was magical. The main dining was indoors, but there was also a beautiful courtyard that led from the main room which was reminiscent of old world charm. The ambience was perfect , and the lighting, decor, and color scheme of room was a whole vibe for sure!!! Coupled with the beautiful space, we had the restaurant manager at our disposal. He was overflowing with charisma and positive energy, and eager to ensure that this party was a success. He offered to help us in the set-up of the room or anything else we might need. He was focused on every detail, front and center at all times, having the kind of customer-focused mentality that would garner the very best results for this party.I am sure his outstanding customer service must be the lifeblood of this restaurant for sure.
Then there was the food!! OMG what can I say! Another case of outstanding marks!! Everything from the appetizers to the main course was simply out of this world!! I would not hesitate in the slightest to become a regular at Hook and Ladder ,and we live in Washington state. This restaurant truly transcends the distance!! Thank you again !!!!!
ps I am not sure I have the manager's name correctly, but I think it was Roy? (If I am wrong, huge apologies! You know who you are!) HA
Great Staff. Great Bartenders and Tea. Way better than Hanger 17. Cool Vibes!
