If you asked what restaurant is my favorite in Rochester.. I'd excitedly tell you, Monroe's! I love date nights here. It's beautiful inside and outside. The atmosphere and staff are always pleasant. I love the fact that every night has different specials and desserts. During the winter, you can eat outside in a little heated igloo!!! I still have so many more plates to try and can't wait for my next visit.

This was our first time eating at Monroe’s, our daughter picked your restaurant for her birthday dinner and we all couldn’t be more pleased with everything. The server was pleasant and professional, our food came in a timely manner and was delicious!
Look at the size of the lobster in the Mac and Cheese, all the portions were like this.
We will return soon to enjoy the atmosphere and food, we will definitely recommend Monroe’s to our friends and family.
Thank you for an enjoyable evening.

I attended a baby shower at Monroes, the food and service was outstanding. We were in the older part of the restaurant with old school historic Erie Canal charm. I have been here many times and they never fail to please. It's one of my favorites.

Portions were big the risotto was slightly undercooked but everything was flavorful. Scallops were great. Drinks were magnificent. I would recommend and will definitely come back.

We wanted to go someplace special for my birthday and love the atmosphere at Monroe's. We ate on the patio, it was a beautiful night. Our waitress was very good. The brussel sprout appetizer was wonderful! The short rib special was so delicious, very tasty and moist. My chicken french was just ok, it lacked much flavor and kind of watery. Overall it was very pleasant.

This was the first time at Monroes, so we made a reservation almost 2 weeks in advance. When we arrived they tried seating us at a hightop next to where the kitchen was, thankfully we were able to move. Service was slow but our waitress was very nice. We ordered the calamari, which the waitress recommended, it was not very good at all. Luckily the entrees were both delicious! We got the chicken french and chicken parm, they were huge portions and absolutely incredible. Overall good experience!

We were guests to a private anniversary party. I didn't know this place is the old Spring House. I am 67 years old, and his place has had a restaurant at least that long. It has been modernized and has fun looking nooks so people feel private although the space is huge. We visited on a warm fall night and the outside spaces where very inviting. Our buffet food was nothing remarkable, but on a special occasion I would be tempted to spend $$$ on their enticing menu. Definitely a popular place with young professionals.

Food is terrific and abundant. Our waitress and the front end staff were great and attentive. The place was a little loud for our liking as we were celebrating our anniversary. We were originally seated very near the bar which was really loud. Fortunately our waitress worked with the hostess to reseat us in a quieter corner.

We always love the food at Monroe's but last night their customer service really cemented this as our favorite restaurant. We had a small hiccup with my meal, and they were so attentive. They offered to remake the dish, took it off our bill without us asking, AND offered us a free dessert for the trouble. We were blown away by how responsive they were- I can't remember the last time we felt so well treated by a restaurant. Go here soon!

The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was incredible, but there were a few things that did let this place down. The serving size is huge here; don't expect to finish your whole meal. That being said, since the portions are very big, the price for said portions makes sense. The dishes themselves are really tasty and very unique. The only dish my table did not like was the beef ragu. It was too sweet for our tastes. The desserts, the appetizer, and our other entrees, though, were superb. All in all, I would definitely come back again if I wanted to celebrate at a peaceful and delicious restaurant.

I had my bridal shower here last weekend in the main dining room. It was gorgeous. The brunch, mimosa bar and desserts were great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The space was bright and overlooked the patio. Would definitely recommend

Hadn't ever had a chance to eat here. We tried just stopping in on a Friday or Saturday a few times. Well that's a mistake. Most of the time they said they couldn't seat us till 830 and here it was 530 and plenty of seats open. So we finally made a reservation and went on a Saturday night. Got there 7 minutes early and was told we would have to wait 7 minutes, even though once again there were seats available and the seat we ended up in was open the whole time. Maybe they do this so they can handle cooking the food and have waitresses available ? Idk but they could have at least let us sit there and order drinks until the 7 minutes was up. Anyways food was great, though a little expensive . Which I think is the idea, as it felt a little stuffy in there, if you know what I mean. I would recommend a reservation and proper attire. Though there were a couple people dressed like they were going to Burger King lol

My husband and I went to your restaurant the other night for dinner and we always request a certain server who we feel is the best you have only to find out Sean no longer works there. This was a disappointment for us because he always made us feel special, I am sorry to say he was a asset to your established and we are not sure if we will return. Between loosing him and the fact you close your whole restaurant for private parties and you do not think of your customers. I think we will go elsewhere

Sent from my iPhone
Kathy Mott

11:35 AM (12 hours ago)

to me
Sounds good.

Monroe's Restaurant and Bar
3001 Monroe Avenue
Rochester, NY 14618
(585) 348-9103

Superb!. Was at Monroe's for dinner last night, first time. Came in because we had a coupon, have not been to this location since it was the Northfield's. What an improvement! Our waitress was friendly, the restaurant was cozy and inviting and the food was out of this world! The best chicken french I have had anywhere, and the dessert selection was to die for. Can't wait to come back!

Had a company luncheon on New Years Eve day. I ordered the mussels and they were the best I have ever had! Great service and atmosphere.

Impressive weekend breakfast. Breakfast for three on the third Sunday morning serving breakfast was outstanding. The menu was not huge but covered the basics; we had pancakes, veggie frittata and sausage frittata. Much better dining experience than the typical diner or family restaurant. Food was very good -- particularly the potatoes and fresh fruit -- and it was nice to have condiments (jam, salsa, cream) served in bowls/pitchers (vs. plastic packages or plastic squeeze bottles). Kids were welcome and staff was gracious in handling a young diner's request to add chocolate chips to the pancakes. Reasonable prices, good portion sizes and complimentary coffee service made it a good value.

Worst linguini and clams ever. My girlfriend and I got a groupon for this restaurant. We dine out once or twice a week to try out new restaurants or re-dine old favorites. Well thought we would give this one a shot. Trying to find the door to this place is already a challenge, we parked in what we thought was the front but was sadly mistaken the is also not a sign till you walk half way around the building. Once we found our way into the restaurant they were able to sit us down right away. Our server was nice but not great. My girlfriend ordered the gnocchi in vodka sauce and I saw my favorite dish one the menu. Linguini and clams. We both also got salads which is not super relevant because its really hard to mess up a salad. Our food came out before we could finish those salads. The linguini and clams was about eight clams in the shells over linguini with spinach spicy sausage (pork sausage) and what they claim to be a wine garlic butter sauce. I did not taste the wine or the garlic! Sausage and clams DO NOT go well together. You couldn't even taste clam in it. The clams them selves were bland and rubbery. I told my server that the food was inedible and she took it away and offered if I would like something else, to which I replied a polite no. When the check came my linguini was still on the bill. The took the groupon off but the remaining balance was still higher than the terrible 18 dollar linguini that I didn't eat. So all in all when you dine here they have no problem taking your money and leaving you unsatisfied and hungry.

Very nice. The food here is amazing! The appetizers are all very good, especially the calamari. They have a good verity of food. Steaks, Pasta's, and Burgers. The Burgers are good, but here you should try something different. You will not regret it. And after dinner try their bakery downstairs. Great desserts.

Monroe's is one of the best spots in Rochester. My husband and I have been there 4 to 5 times in the past year and always have great service and wonderful food. The haddock french, Monroe's burger, verdita, and penne are some of our favorite. We continue to come back for the hot bread and great food! Give it a try. We have no idea where these bad reviews are from it's one of our favorite places!
Brittany
One of my favorite Rochester restaurants! This place has had a complete menu makeover and the new food is fantastic. The presentation is gorgeous and very impressive. Great date night place; the decor is beautiful. Highly recommend the aranchini and scallops...my date had the pork belly which was great too. 2 thumbs way up!!
Laura
Delicious. My husband and I both loved our food and our waitress was amazing. The best service we have had in a long time. Only compliant, the restaurant was freezing so I just wanted to finish my dinner and get out.

Give it a try. We have had dinner three times in the last two months. Varied menu, good selections, very well priced, nice size portions. I think the current owners finally have it right. The service was also excellent.

This restaurant was AMAZING, probably the best I have been to in Rochester. The improvements noted in another review are definitely evident. The decor was beautiful, especially the outside patio area. The service was top notch. Our food was absolutely incredible. My girlfriend and I are huge food critics and this food blew us away. We got cupcakes to take home for dessert and they were spectacular. I highly recommend this restaurant. If you have been in the past and weren't pleased, I urge you to give it another chance.

Food so-so, Service worse. Outdoor deck is great, that's were the good is stopped. Food was overpriced. Service was slow and not attentive, waitress didn't remember correct orders. Attempted to order NY Strip Steak and... they didn't have have it!!! 6:30 pm on Saturday night, how about that. Was nicely suggested to order Filet Mignon, really, I would like a nice size piece of meat, not 8oz for 25$. Asked to have two of them for the price of one, but was refused. Ended up ordering chicken wings instead, and they were really dry. Unpleasant experience, will not go there again. Watch out!

Was a little worried after reading the negative reviews regarding service. Now I know why. The food was fine and the staff friendly, but they are clearly disorganized and incredibly slow. The bus girl brought my husband water but her pitcher of water was empty. She left and never returned. So here we sit- nothing to drink and still waiting. You'd think they'd read these reviews and try to improve...

I have been to Monroe's several times and have found each meal to be fantastic! The haddock French, filet mignon, NY strip, lobster Mac and cheese, and salmon are all great!! Atmosphere is wonderful, we can't wait to dine on the patio. I always ask if the coconut cake is available and have them take a piece out so it comes more to room temp cuz it's to die for and I understand it must be refrigerated because of the ingredients. Worth going back again and again!

Food, very good..service not. WE ate here on Sat, 6:30 reservations. as soon as the 7:00 reservations came in, service was no where to be seen. When our dinner was served, the waiter never came back to the table once to see if everything was ok, and if we needed anything else. Two of us ordered the seafood pasta dish which stated it could be served with mild or a spicy marinara sauce. I requested mild, he never asked my son (who asked his recommendation on entrees and didn't look at the menu). We were both disappointed when served the spicy sauce.... and he was nowhere to be seen so we could tell him. The house salad was very good and the dressing.. I would love the recipe. He forgot to serve bread which we had to ask for. I would go back for the food, but would not go at a crowded time and I would make sure to sit at a table where we could grab our waiter.

Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Service a little slow( wedding party in larger room). But overall really good.

Amazing food and service. My girlfriend and I go here all the time. The food is die for. You will be happy with whatever you order. The desert options will make you order it even if you are full. The bakery downstairs bakes everything you see on the desert menu as well. The atmosphere is amazing as well. Not the cheapest place but it is well worth it in the end. Keep up the good work

Good food for travelers =). Spent a week in Rochester, and ended up at Monroe's three times! Obviously, thought it was great food and friendly service. Our family favorites were the caesar salad (my son said it was the best he had ever tasted) and gnocci's with red sauce . . . daughter loved the delicious lobster roll and amazing brussell sprouts . . . and my personal favorite was chicken french . . . it was superb . .. we all agreed that those mash potatoes were the best ever ! Not enough room to write about the desserts. Family favorites were the tiramisu, carrot cake (huge) and the chocolate cherry cake, all the best we've ever had . . . even took home a dozen assorted cupcakes for our ride home! I would definitely recommend Monroe's to anyone wanting a great meal and good service . . . let us know if your headed to the D.C. area anytime soon =)

Good Food - TERRIBLE SERVICE. Hostess was very amatuerish. Told us to "hold on for a minute" while we waited while she carried on a conversation with a co-worker; once seated, the waiter didn't come around for a while, took our drink order, then we waited forever for our drinks, and then forever for the waiter to take our dinner order. When our order was taken he left the stack of menus on the table. Then we received our salads BEFORE our appetizers. To make it worse, the waiter forgot one of our appetizers. No sooner did we receive the forgotten appetizer, our meals came. Restaurant wasn't busy for a Saturday night and I understand why. Restaurant defintely needs to upgrade its work staff to meet the food quality and atmosphere of the restaurant. It will be a long time before we go back ... if ever.
Helen
OK food, bad service!. It took 10 minutes to get a server to come to our table and take drink orders, the drinks took forever, the food took forever, nobody came to ask us how the food was (very good!), and we had to ask 2 servers to get our server to drop off the check. What the heck???

Service was awesome and the food was great!. My business partners and I came into Monroe's this past Tuesday night for dinner. We sat on the patio and we were so happy we did because when it became darker outside, they turned on the overhead lights. Sitting under those lights on such a beautiful patio made us feel like we were far far away from Monroe Avenue.

Our food was delicious. I had the Mussels Merlot for my entree. Whoever thought to put pomme frites under mussels with sausage and gorg cheese is a genius because they were great! My partners had the scallops and walnut crusted chicken and they loved their dishes as well.

What really made our night was the service. We had a young gentleman by the name of Joe. He's one of a kind in Rochester, that's for sure. Just top notch at what he does. Every time my partners and/or I wanted something, he would already have it in his hand - he kept reading our minds it seemed like. I could go on and on but that place is secure if all the servers are like Joe.

Keep up the good work Monroe's, we will be back!

Quite Nice ... On a whim, my neighbor and I stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for a light bite. We chose to eat at the bar for convenience sake and seated ourselves. We were immediately greeted by a pleasant young lady who asked if we would be dining and quickly told us of the specials for the afternoon. We both enjoyed the house Pinot Noir and the Mussels over Pomme Frittes in a Cabernet broth, along with a side of the White Bean Dip. Both inspired, both delicious and both enjoyed fully! The over all experience was quite nice and we will most definitely return.

Very good!. I went to Monroe's last week and it was delicious. I had crab cakes for an appetizer and the Shrimp Verde pasta for dinner. Everything was very tasty! I would definitely go back.
Sherri
It was great!. We went on a Friday night with another couple ordered the fish fry, steak, chicken and we were all so pleased with the food. It was beautifully presented and tasted great. We all had deserts which were to die for. The coconut cake is the best. Had a gluten free desert for my husband too!! The breads were outstanding, keep up the good work. Will be back to eat on the outside patio.

Ms.. OMG it was terrible!! We went there for lunch. The food had no flavor, I had over-cooked pasta with muscles that smelled and tasted so fishey. My compainion had soup and salad. The soup had no taste at all but the salad was good. Never going back! This restaurant will not last.

Lou. Went there Wednesday with 12 other family members. We were set up in a private room. Service was top notch. I ordered a special (stuffed pork loin, mashed potatoes and rapini) which was delicious and good size servings. A few in our party had a walnut crusted chicken dish and the ribeye steak. All agreed the food was very good. Bar prices are a bit steep. All in all a very good experience and I'll be going back.

Chaos. My wife and I went here Saturday for dinner with one other couple. Liquor is WAY overpriced, but the wine selection is pretty wide and almost too cheap. I paid $10 for a tanquerey on the rocks with a slash of tonic. The food took over 30 minutes to come, the pasta was overcooked, the steak was still rare when I ordered it medium-rare. Our server was great and she was very attentive. But, it seemed like after every course another manager was coming to our table to ask how everything was; three times PLUS the server doing her job is called hovering and it's uncomfortable. We most likey will not return. Best of luck.
