The Cake Mix

Reading over the other reviews, the likelihood of being attacked by the owner seems to be a trend in his response to how he handles a situation. I just want to add my review to the apparently growing list of people who have a problem and yet THEY are the ones wrong, not this bakery. Sorry but the customer is always right and getting into arguments with people on social media will eventually shut your company's doors. I purchased my fifth and final cake a few weeks ago. I requested the relatively simple cake with approximately 3.5 weeks before the event. I actually contacted them an hour after we decided to throw the last minute event for our friends who got married. I was confident given our previous experiences that this one would be no different. However, this time the staff was a little rude about us getting to Rincon from Richmond Hill earlier than we thought. Sorry but traffic is unpredictable at best. I also forgot to tell my sister who was picking up the cake for me to make sure to take my card to pay the balance. Again, she was met with nothing but attitude. This time around the cake was double the price I've paid on the previous 4 cakes I've purchased, the fundant was terribly executed and the actual cake itself was like a brick. I'm just so disappointed. The owner made a point to say to be sure to leave a review so I actually remembered to do that this time and was attacked on Facebook because how dare I say something negative about his cake??? If you're looking for a good bakery, look elsewhere. This place has lost its luster with me. I'll just go to Publix and get a sheet cake before I'll ever use The Cake Mix again. And, on que, the attack for this review will come as well. Edited to add pictures, since "no record" can be found. I did not take a picture of the newest cake.

We're about halfway through our first baking class and I am very impressed with Lewis and his professionalism. He is single-handedly managing a kitchen with ten kids as young as four. He is very patient and thorough in his instruction. I was a little timid after reading some of the one-star reviews, but I have not experienced anything of the sort. The facilities are old and clearly get a lot of use, however, the kitchen was clean and organized. We will definitely continue to enroll our children in the courses offered here.

Paid for Mommy & Me baking class. It was overbooked and 24 people were crammed into a hot, tiny kitchen that reeked of cigarettes. We couldn't see from the back row and the chef was talking and talking forever while the kids got bored. Only a few kids at a time got to participate, so it meant more boring waiting for the other kids. 25 mins into the lesson (after kids had already been touching food), we all had to form a single line for a single sink in a back bathroom... another 10mins of waiting. 40 mins in and my child still hadn't touched any food. It wa so bad, I walked out mid-lesson. Too crowded and claustrophobic and we were standing around the whole evening watching other kids bake. :( So frustrating. I drove an hour each way, wasted $35 and wanted this to be a special activity for me and my child.

My husband and I ordered our wedding cake here two years ago and I thought I left a review but just noticed I hadn't! Lewis was amazing, he did such a wonderful job, the cake was beautiful and delicious, all of our guests enjoyed it. I recommend everyone to The Cake Mix! My favorite part of the whole ordering experience was how Lewis was very down to earth and didn't beat around the bush, he wasn't there to kiss my butt. Other reviews mention that he is rude.but I promise you he isn't, he is a great guy and an AMAZING baker!

I ordered a smash cake for my sons 1st birthday and Lewis did a great job! Not only was he willing to accommodate us at short notice, but the cake came out beautifully and it was very reasonably priced! I’ll definitely use him again! Updated review 2nd cake I got from The Cake Mix and it was awesome. It was the hit of the party. It was beautifully decorated and he actually did even more detail than what I ever expected. Of course it tasted delicious too. Will definitely be getting all my cakes here :)

This dude does NOT follow directions. I asked for cupcakes and he makes a small ugly cake and tells me he did that because he had batter left over. My neighbor had a bad experience with him as well. He messed up her order twice and she ask for a refund! Everyone take your business to POLLY'S CAKES in POOLER!

RUN!!!!. If you want a great cake, don't go here. My girlfriend ordered a cake from there for her son and daughter in law baby shower and it was not what she ordered. She ordered buttercream and he did fondant. The fondant started melting on the way back to her house and the cake slided. He didn't even have a box big enough for the cake to fit in and she had to come out the place with the cake box open up. I never seen a cake so messed up like that in my life. She was so disappointed. I told her and many others said to ask for your money back. So if you want your special day to be great with a beautiful cake, Don't order from this guy.
