Review Southern Railway Taphouse - Richmond

Food was great!! Service was great! Definitely a place to revisit. We had our dog and they gave him water, only small issue was that the outdoor spot you sit with your dog was littered with cigarettes butts and with having a puppy we had to brush them away so he won't keep trying to eat them.

On a whim we decided to check out the taphouse for happy hour and bring along our dog to the patio. I can say the food and service was great. The layout of the restaurant and patio along with the location near the canal was inspiring. I will be back again during happy hour specials there is a large selection of great beers. The tacos were pretty good. Recommend using the nearby parking garage since street parking is limited.

Food: every dish I have had from here has been extremely good. Cooked well, seasoned to perfection, and great flavor. My all time favorite is the goat cheese dip. Service: prompt and polite. Do their best to manage big crowds and still provide quality service. Atmosphere: inside and outside are both nice. I prefer to sit on the patio on the weekends and enjoy the local musician playing. Nice place to visit for food and drinks. Don, Emily and Eric made sure we had a pleasant experience. The selection of beer was vast and varied. I tried the Richmond Lager and D9 Brown Sugar Ale. Both worth buying again. The Cajun Salmon PoBoy and Sweet Potatoe Fries hit the spot. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were well seasoned and perfectly prepared. Happy Hour pricing is reason enough to return however the above makes it a great place to frequent. Update! Returned for brunch after a nice River Walk.

Our nonprofit organization hosted one of our annual events in their private event space & had a positive experience! Our guests enjoyed having access to the bar and arcade upstairs with plenty of space to move around. The servers bent over backwards to help ensure we had what we needed during the event & were all very professional. I worked with Addie as our main POC on the day of the event & appreciated how well she communicated - we always had what we needed & she was very attentive, no matter what was happening. I worked with Kaitlyn Drummond to secure the venue, plan catering & prepare details along the way -- she was delightful from the beginning. She made the process feel easy by being so responsive, thorough & patient as questions came up! I definitely recommend hosting an event at SRT.

Stopped in for drinks and were glad we did! Lots of beers to choose from and my very selective husband found one he liked, but the big reason for the 5 stars is the non-beer menu. I'm not a beer drinker and usually end up with a water at a brewery or taproom. But this place had a number of cocktails to choose from, plus a wine list! I chose a margarita and can honestly say it was one of the best I've had. Bartenders were friendly (thanks Greg and Don!) and took pride in their drink making skills! If this place was close to home, it would be our "go-to" spot! Go Birds!

Food was good, beer was fine. Just make sure you get an updated tap list so you aren't disappointed when you order something they no longer have! It was pretty slow for a Saturday afternoon but I get the sense they're busier in the evenings. Cool place!

This place was awesome! I came back the day after my first visit to have some more of their beers and food. Over 60 beers on tap and most of them local craft beers. Don was an amazing bartender and he let me sample some of the beers before I ordered them. He made plenty of great recommendations as well. The Bison Meatloaf is amazing!

My fiance and I had the best time ever at the taphouse! Our service was great and our server Kyrie was awesome and made sure we were taken care of the whole time. Our food was to die for! We started with the Beer Cheese Queso which was so delicious and creamy. After, we ordered the chicken tacos and the 12oz ribeye. The ribeye was grilled perfectly, and the tacos were perfect too. Our sides were also so good! You can never go wrong with more seasoned rice! We are definitely coming back next time!!

Good beer selection as well as a bourbon and scotch list. The food is okay, fries have a great seasoning. Stopped to share a quick bite while walking the canal.

Came in with a group of four for Sunday bunch. We ordered the Mac and cheese egg rolls, brussel sprouts, and fried green tomatoes for the table; each appetizer was equally as good! I had the Nashville chicken and grits… again really good. Then you top it off with the drinks… they have a winner here! We didn’t take the pictures of the appetizers because we devoured them immediately! Lol!

I absolutely love this place and the food was fantastic! The macaroni and cheese egg rolls were fire! I also enjoyed the Cajun Salmon Bacon sandwich with fries.

Will be back soon! Excellent service and plentiful portions that were outstanding. Mac and cheese egg rolls were a surprise. My wife’s chicken on her sandwich was as big as your hand. Maybe the best brisket I have had on the grilled cheese brisket sandwich.

Got the chicken tacos and buffalo chicken dip! They were so good. Also tried the seasonal cocktail called sweater weather! That was amazing, very sweet and cozy feeling. The atmosphere of this place just takes you back to the old days! Very nice definitely want to come back for some more good memories!

I had the most amazing dinner at Southern Railway Taphouse tonight! Our server Kelly was outstanding!!! I highly recommend the turkey burger and having Kelly as your waitress!! After dinner we went to the bar and our wonderful experience continued as Blair made the best old fashioned cocktail I ever had!

Shame on this place. There is no reason to get pushed by the security people!!! Management needs to be replaced!!! Be aware of the security and telling them they are being recorded works the best!!! But no worries, place will be closing soon enough! Remember to treat EVERYONE with respect!

Southern Raleway Tap House was an awesome place to get food and beverages. I am coming from out of town and found this place. Becky at the bar was amazing. Very attentive and personable, gave some great advice on places to visit and thinfs to do. Highly recommend!!!!

The food was amazing! Highly recommend the cheesesteak wrap. My server Ericka (cute black girl) was very friendly and funny. She kept my water glass full and make sure we were happy. Overall everything was good and I’ll definitely return.

Came in for brunch for my first visit ever. The food was outstanding! We enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the open face croissant sandwich (MY FAVE!!) and the bagel burgers. All were absolutely delicious. Our server was very good - made excellent recommendations and kept checking on us frequently! The "manmosas" hit the spot and I can't wait to come back again soon!!

Food and ambiance was amazing! We sat outside and there was live music. My 7yr old and 3yr old enjoyed the food and live music as well. Great place for a family just to have a bite to eat and not have to worry about feeling uncomfortable.

We had a gathering for my sons going away celebration and our waiter “Brian” was awesome and stayed on top of everything!!! Food and cocktails were yummy!

I had the most amazing dinner tonight!!! I had the Harvest Turkey Panini and it was outstanding. I appreciated the option to have a healthy side salad in lieu of french fries! Our server Kelly was amazing. She is a true gem and an asset to the team! After supper we joined Blair at the bar and she made an exceptional dirty martini which I loved!! Can’t wait to come back!

Great atmosphere. Love seating options with inside or out casual seating. We have been multiple times and never had a bad meal. Server Kelly tonight was phenomenal! She was super attentive to all her tables. Upbeat personality! Kelly is one worth requesting for future visits.

The food is absolutely delicious, the atmosphere is fun and cozy, and there is more than enough beer! Our server, Kelly, was fun and personable :)

Really like the place. Went there for Sunday brunch, TJ gave great recommendations and great conversation.

This was our first time here and have to say we absolutely loved it! From the service to the food to the atmosphere..we truly enjoyed our evening and look forward to returning. Caleb was our server and he did an outstanding job with our order and Billy checking in on us throughout the evening was appreciated as well. It truly was a great dining experience!

Beer was awesome, bartenders nice, beer battered shrimp was incredible, but the sausage/burger combo sandwich was disgusting.

This is my favorite bar in the bottom- Great food and service. They also have an amazing selection of bourbon and craft beers. I highly recommend!

Never in my life have I been treated so poorly until I went here. I went with a few friends tonight to get some drinks. A very rude bouncer ended up bumping into me and spilling my drink all over me. When I said something to him, he proceeded to kick me out for no apparent reason. And when I say kick me out, he laid his hands on me and pushed me out the door, physically assaulting me. When we confronted the manager about this situation, he had nothing to offer us. He said he would ask the bouncer for his side of the story and told us to call him tomorrow. When I asked for the bouncer's name, he refused to give it to me. Do not spend your money here. There are plenty of other, nicer, places in downtown Richmond to spend your money. If I could give this place a 0 I would.

i wish i could rate a negative!! my husband, my 2 year old & i went for lunch & really enjoyed the lunch, server & beer!! then we decided to GO BACK FOR DINNER TO GO & the hostess told us to go to the bar, the female bartender with the braid yelled that we were not allowed to have a a kid at the bar.. umm ordering togo?!?!?! then a male bartender came & yelled the same, scaring my 2 year old into tears & saying we should see a manager.. the manager mike appeared to be nice.. he suggested a beer & a pasta dish would solve all.. as we left i let the bartender know i was upset and she shouted "you are drunk.. LEAVE".. as we were leaving, the manager, mike put his hands on my federal agent husband. i cannot describe the disappointment & sickness i feel for this restaurant. my husband fights daily for the well being of this country & to be treated like that is disgusting. i am ashamed & sad to have been a patron here. i will never recommend or talk of this restaurant. i am so saddened by the way a man of the country & his family were treated. i WILL NEVER recommended this restaurant & i will actively fight to ensure all of my richmond friends know how they treated someone who works so hard & a small toddler who does not deserve disgusting treatment. i am beyond sad about the $100 we spent on this HORRIBLE PLACE!! also to reiterate as we left i let the female bartender know how bad she had hurt our daughter & she decided to yell that we were "drunk" (only 3 beers in) this place is horrible for families!! DONT GO!!!!!!!!! <br/>

Stopped for brunch w/ a few friends, didn't really get to indulge in the beer selection. The food was great, I had the pretzel & beer cheese burger w/ the macaroni n' cheese egg rolls. Dope lil spot, probably comeback in a week or so.

Atmosphere was nice and so was the entire staff, however, the happy hour appetizers that our group shared were less than mediocre.

Food was ok. Cheddar burger was a bit grainy, but the bacon horseradish sauce for the Mac and cheese egg rolls was very good. My wife liked the margherita flatbread. Crab/artichoke appetizer did not taste much of crab and seemed to have been 'cut' with mashed potatoes. Would eat there again, but it would not be a destination restaurant for me.

Good selection of draft beers. Had the cheddar burger and a salad. It was very good. Good atmosphere and scenery if u know what I mean.
