Hometown Cafe

Sorry, can't really vouch for the food here but I will say this.. I deliver mail for a living and since I am human while on route I need to relieve myself from time to time. This place is near my route and the owner graciously tolerates my utilizing the restroom facilities without patronizing the business. I mean I never have time when I go in their to eat, but here is my real plug for this place when I pass by the front where all of the food choices are divided out in separate portions it is very very hard not to stop and eat, time or no time! It all looks and smells fresh and delicious! I keep promising them I am going to come in one day after work and get some of their food but I haven't been able to do so yet. But, I will soon, I promise, and I will do an updated review afterwards. The prices are good too. Roughly $10 for a full to go box and white rice. They also have fresh soups as well. I took my toddler here and we shared a $9 plate of food, more than enough for both of us. The man and woman working there were SO kind and helpful with my son! They helped me carry the food to the table and get the free soup too. The food is good and although it appears to have gone up in price, $9 is still incredibly cheap for the quantity and quality, and price increases are to be expected with the cost of food these days. We'll be back!

Run-of-the-mill 3 dish + 1 rice Chinese joint. At $9 (Feb 2022), it's a tad higher than other similar formats (Taiwan Cafe) and the portion is a bit smaller too. Inside is clean enough with self-serve soup. I'd go if I'm in a pinch in Richardson but honestly, Taiwan Cafe is better in terms of taste, portion, and price.

One of the best place for college students and for anyone on a budget. Great quality and quantity Taiwanese food. $7 for a big tray with 3 dishes of your choice + 2 scoops of rice + unlimited soup + water. They have 2 different kind of soups, egg drop soup and radish & mushroom soup. I recommend getting the radish & mushroom soup. Cash only!! Self-service restaurant with excellent customer service from the owners. Tips: come early in the day for better food choice. If you come late, they only have left over food. Cons: Very sticky rice. But in general, everything is great. No complaint.

Dining or takeout, either from menu or, I just pick three out of about 30 entrees, plus rice, and free soup, for $6, then $7, $8, now $9. It used to be a great deal at $6, as it's cheaper than most. But at $9, it depends on how you value the simple homestyle food. I like the free soup the most, with two choices, each with plenty of ingredients. (Update) Soup: 1) egg drop with tomato and corn, 2) turnips with fungus, 2 kinds of mushrooms, cauliflower.
