Cozy Diner

I'm an American diner guy. I love checking them out, all over the country. This one gets a four, which is far better than most. The meat loaf was perfect, the gravy very good (and too much of it, which is a diner convention -- just squeegee some off and Bob's your uncle). The ribs were well prepared and a bit light on the sauce as is appropriate for diner preparation. Excellent mashed. Real garlic bread rather than the horrid "cheese" bread that's been going around. Outstanding old-style vegetable beef soup. The nostalgia factor is through the roof. If these folks stay with it, they have the talent to go five stars and be one of the best. Get in on the ground floor and try it now! Keep your eyes peeled -- the actual restaurant is hidden in a sunken strip mall lot. You should be able to spot the sign easily enough. This one could go for the title. And oh yes: pleasant folks whose advice on what's good can be trusted.

We are seniors and just moved to the Red Bluff area. We are remodeling the kitchen at a snails pace so we are eating out a lot. All we need is decent food, and friendly service. Well, this place came through in a big way. We both ordered the 4 piece broasted chicken with 4 ribs. The idea was to have some leftovers for the next day. He had the vegetable soup and liked it. He gave it 3 mmmmm's. I had the salad, just ordinary, but not bad. The chicken was very good. The ribs were tender and looked great. I let him eat all the ribs. As we were ready to go the server told us it was free pie night. Great, we both got our pie to go. The only bad thing, possibly a manager, or owner, went to the salad bar with a Styrofoam box and I overheard her say, "oh this is messy" yet she continued to fill her box and no one ever went over to refill or clean. If there are any problems there, it is probably due to the manager.
