Taco Gol

Qué comida deliciosa! I just enjoyed the best gorditas I've ever tasted, along with a very tasty batida of mamey (sort of like a milkshake, and mamey is a pinkish-orange tropical fruit with a mellow but exotic flavor). This place is easy to miss because it's just an unassuming little spot without a lot of garish signage, located on a stretch of Main Street that has seen better days. But you'll notice that it's usually well attended by local people in the know who like really good authentic Mexican food. There's a reason it's so popular: the food is amazing. Es lo mejor!

I've only been once, today, and I had huevos ala mexicana. But it was damn good. I'm starting to realize that no matter the cuisine, or authenticity, if there is a chef who has just "got it" then everything is golden. Not only were the eggs, rice, and beans delicious, the corn tortillas were handmade, soft, supple and better than I've had anywhere else in the Hudson Valley and probably much farther afield.
