We had the most wonderful dining experience at Sur Lie this past weekend. There were several things that stood out: 1. The food! So delicious and creative. The food presentation was lovely. I have a recent long list of food sensitivities and allergies. Our server (Angela) was excellent at noting what I could have. In addition, the chef accommodated my requests to omit certain ingredients. In other words, I could have felt left out with my newer food issues, but didn't. 2. The service! I have been in the service industry, and notice good service. It was a team effort by everyone, no one walked by the table without picking up an empty plate. The servers assisted each other in delivering food. Which leads me directly to.... 3. Our server Angela. I have to give her a special shout out because she was that good! She was warm, attentive, and genuine. She worked really hard, and made it seem effortless. We noticed and appreciated it. Did I mention that she brought me out gluten free crackers without me requesting it? She also brought out a dairy/nut/gluten free dessert without me asking. 4. The presentation of everything was impeccable. How the glassware, plates, and napkins and silverware were laid out. I love stuff like that. I watched the owner set up a table, and she kept slightly rearranging the placed items to make it look just so. 4. The atmosphere is charming and comfortable, with just enough rustic glamour. 5. The drinks are delicious too. I can't say that I have had a dining experience quite like it in the past, where the food and service were so good that it kind of all felt like magic. I wish I lived closer so that I could dine here more often, but will surely come back again when I am in town and recommend it to everyone. You must go!

One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've ever had! Fantasy of a perfect vacation treat dinner with DH fulfilled! We received a friendly welcome as soon as we walked in; the ambience is relaxed and comfortable, and we enjoyed a window seat. Ex Lion Tamer and Tony's Shim cocktails were complex and complimented each other (we shared everything!). Dinner was soppressata, mixta, that carrot dish, and brussels sprouts, which was plenty for the two of us after an afternoon of hiking. Portions were just right for sharing. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor, texture, and presentation. Main ingredients were wonderfully balanced with accompaniments, and there seemed to be so many connections with the locale. The colors and shapes of the amazing carrot dish with contrasting duck egg yolk, carrot caramel, and blue spruce oil was stunning and reminded me of the gorgeous lichen growing on the rocks by the shore. Every dish had a special flourish, like candied orange (mixta) and paper-thin toasted bread (soppressata). Our servers' enthusiasm and cheerfulness added to the experience. Luckily we had room for a lemon curd dessert - also phenomenal. It was such a treat to enjoy world-class dining in such a laid-back, unpretentious setting, with reasonable prices, too! Already looking forward to our next visit when we're back in Portland -

We had a awesome experience here for my wife’s birthday! Very nice atmosphere, great for a date night or out with friends. Excellent service- servers/staff were all incredibly friendly and chill. Happy hour even on the weekends! The cocktails were all very good. The food was on point- the popover and beef dishes were two favorites. Only two knocks were maybe that the next dish almost seemed to come out a little too fast (not necessarily a bad thing, but too fast for us), and a couple of the dishes had a little too much bitterness going on for our taste (the gnocchi and the compote with the cheesecake). But Sur Lie should be at the top of your list for places to try in Portland, especially if you like the tapas format!

This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in years. The tapas menu is incredible and everything is so well balanced and tasty. Mike was bartending that night and his cocktails were so good. Lots of savory components to the drinks that paired so well with the food. As a celiac, I was so happy to have a gluten free safe meal that was so good. I will happily be back.

If I could give a million stars, I would. This is hands down the best of Portland. Even with the change in head chef's (from when they first opened) it has always remained consistent and exceedingly spectacular. Every inch of this establishment screams high quality but still a very warm and inviting atmosphere. Great food doesn't always have to be enjoyed wearing a three piece suit. Suits definitely fit the vibe here but there is an element here that embraces being casual without over doing it. I'm not sure if I can even explain it. Also, ran by a woman is a huge plus. So proud that this is a Maine business and just go here.

They have tasty tapas, here. We got about 6 or 7 tapas for the three of us, and we were full. The only tapas we didn't care for was the asparagus. My favorite was the peas. The service was great, too! I would be happy to return here to eat this delicious dinner again.

I brought 7 people to sur lie in late April on the day we got engaged, and to say their service was on point would be an understatement. They were extremely attentive and we didn’t ever feel like our large party was an issue for them. The small plates were phenomenal, the pop overs especially were a big hit with the table. The cocktails were also very very good and came out super fast. I have been to a lot of places in Portland, but Sur Lie was A+ and I will most definitely be back. Thanks guys!!

I don't know that I've had such a good experience dining out in Maine before. The food was phenomenal. The tapas style was well suited for our group of five and the food was off and locally sourced. Can't wait to go back

The service, food, and all-around vibe at Sur Lie was phenomenal. We treated ourselves to the Maine Restaurant Week 4-course offering and everything was fantastic and filling. I would highly, highly recommend! We will certainly return in the future.
