Had the lobster casserole and I do believe it’s the best thing I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant. It’s where the locals go. Awesome place.

The food and service were excellent. It is a very casual atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our lobster and Amy was outstanding as our server.

Recommendation from a local bartender, after giving up on finding reasonable prices downtown. J’s came through. Lobster roll was well made and that’s during off season. But truthfully the oysters are amazing, huge, very flavorful and shucked right in front of you. Get the blueberry ale with your meal! Can’t wait to come back during summer!

Friendly staff! Good portion size! Lobster salad was unique where served with pasta salad, mixed carrots, celery, onion, and coleslaw. Romain lettuce is the base layer and tearing up to use as a wrap was a unique experience that will add to your slaps! You will get salad dressing, but if you need to watch out for sodium, dish is flavorful enough that you don’t need the salad dressing. Definitely have oysters as an appetizer and you won’t regret it!

The bartender here was awesome! She let me try some of the different local beers, even tho I don't think that was supposed to be an option. And they have the best oysters I've ever had! Clams were really good as well. Lobster and lobster roll were great deals and were delicious too. Highly recommended to come here!

This was our first visit. We will return! It's has a diner feel but it's a raw bar. Their menu has a variety of seafood plates that looked delicious as it "ran" to other tables. Leslie and Jeff were incredible bartenders! 👏

The oysters were so fresh and delightful. I came in just for them and it was worth it. I was told this is as local as it gets as this place has been here for a long time. It is a very small place. Limited seating inside and also the bar area has seating. I was by myself so I got seated right away in the bar area. I am not going to take away stars because to be the honest the oysters are worth every one of them but the waitress at the bar didn’t even asked me for a drink. Not even offered me a glass of water. I understand they are very busy and limited personnel available to take care of people coming in. So don’t expect Top of the line service just go in and enjoy the oysters.

The food is delicious, but I think they're being stingy with the ratio... Both in the Seafood Casserole and the Seafood Bouillabaisse you get only one scallop, 2 shrimps and 2 small pieces of lobster. 70% of the dish is Hadock. These are respectively 28 and 31 dollars a plate, no need to be stingy!

Staff was super friendly. He made the visit very comfortable and warm. The space is relatively small but reminds me of a small boat and it feels very authentic. We ordered the lobster dinner, we were pleasantly surprised that it came with clams also. The lobster was pretty big and had plenty of juicy meat. The clams however was very sandy. Even after the rinse it was tough not to get a mouth full of sand with each bite. I wouldn't recommend the crab roll because it wasn't seasoned enough. But the lobster meal was a win for us.

We arrived in Portland, Maine later in the afternoon. We didn’t waste any time trying the local seafood. First place we found was J’s Oysters. The seafood was fantastic. Reasonably priced whole Maine lobster, oysters, lobster and crab sandwiches. The food was delicious! This restaurant set the bar while we were here. The service/friendliness of the staff was outstanding. We ate here 3 times over 5 days!!
