Fantastic place to stop on a cloudy day (8 months out of the year Hahahaha). Cappuccino and tea are the perfect things to drink while looking out the large windows.
I think this is one of the best coffee shops in Portland. It’s not flashy or minimal on the inside, but it’s comfortable, feels worn in and authentic, and most important serves excellent coffee they roast themselves, pulled by skilled baristas. This is an underlooked gem of a Portland coffee shop.
I love this coffee shop. Staff is very nice and the coffee is very good. It’s a great place to get your stuff done quickly. The owner roaster has always been so nice as well. He brewed an extra cup of his new coffee once so I could try his new roast a few months back. Definitely a place to give your business to.
I was passing through Portland on my way to a conference and had to finish some work. From the outside the cafe was very inviting (the 'everyone welcome' sign helped!) and I was indeed welcomed by very friendly and cheerful staff. I stayed there for the whole day and was incredibly productive! Their coffee is great and while their food selection is limited, I had no objections to their bagels, and the wraps and quiche were delicious. The pricing is similar to anywhere in Portland, and the whole place feels very clean (including their WC). I felt so at home here I came back the next day and finished my work. If like me, you need a place to relax AND work, Cellar Door is the place to be.
Their coffee is terrific! I worked for one of the oldest specialty coffee companies in the U.S. before coffee became such a thing. I've always liked coffee that wasn't over-roasted and burned (Starbucks, Peets, etc.) as all it does is remove flavor. Cellar Door gets that, and roasts their coffees mostly medium which brings out all the right flavors of the coffee bean/varietal without masking it with carbon. I use their coffee for my guesthouse and have for years and my guests love it. Their actual coffee house is pretty standard, small and inviting place with a few baked goods and sandwiches.
I first had Cellar Door coffee at City/State Diner 5 years ago. I've ben hooked ever since. I've been lucky enough to try a lot of the local coffee's in the Portland area and there Puddletown Blend is easily my favorite coffee I've ever tired. I hope that many of you that read this post support them during this most difficult time. I hope that you and I will be drinking there delicious coffee on the flip side of this pandemic. Be healthy and be safe my friends...
Superb atmosphere and excellent beans by Cellar Door! Staff are always down to earth. They care about the temperature of your coffee and milk. Very well crafted drinks with attention to detail.
I just moved in across the street and I'm beyond grateful to have CDCR so close. Great in-house roasted coffee + food and warm + welcoming staff. Proud to be a part of this neighborhood and support the businesses here.
Tried the Puddletown Blend in a small latte and it was great. Smooth, nearly chocolatey flavor with a faint bite. The shop itself seemed very cosy and welcoming, albeit a touch cramped. Definitely would recommend.
Guy working was pretty chill and made us feel welcomed, the atmosphere was a little quirky but overall comfortable. Coffee was good but nothing special. Would visit again if in the area.
