There are very good reasons for so many five star ratings. The warm heart of this place veritably oozes from the atmosphere, the service, the food. We arrived, a party of 7 with no notice and they accommodated us effortlessly. Most of us were experiencing Ethiopian food for the first time. Our kind server guided us through the entire menu. As it happened, the women indulged in anjera and vegetarian fare, using anjera in traditional fashion. Some items were definitely spicy. The men indulged in lamb and chicken. Not a bit was left on their platter. We all enjoyed everything immensely. At our server’s suggestion, I ordered a delicious, excellent Pinot noir. Another ordered a quite crisp and lovely Vigonier. I heard great exclamations over the clever house margarita that uses a traditional pepper which blends in an exciting way with lime and tequila. Get one.

Fabulous food! Unfortunately, I ate the food before I took pictures! I did get pictures of the drinks. Mine was a gimlet, and it was light and fruity! My husband’s boulevardier, was excellent! He’s been here three times and always orders one!

We have been fans of Ethiopian food for many years. In a town with a lot of it Abyssinian Kitchen stands out. Everything was fresh. Even collards were crisp and didn't taste stewed. Same for all the vegetables. The lamb was tender and impeccably seasoned. The enjira was fresh, and the slight fermented bite let us know it was traditional. The mocktail was complex, not syrupy, and hit the "cocktail" button. Dessert cheesecake was dense, cheese forward and fruity rather than just sugary. Service was attentive and prompt but not hovering. Atmosphere was relaxed and low key. This is one of our new favorites.

This place is unique from other restaurants in many aspects. It serves high quality Ethiopian cuisine and the atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and tastefully decorative. It has a modern feel that incorporates African artwork. Diners are immersed in the comforting and relaxed energy that is complimented by the comforting and flavorful dishes. The food is delectable, I savored every bite of the Doro Wot. I consider Abyssinian Kitchen's Doro Wot to be the best of any I've tasted, and I've tasted many different renditions. The Asa Doulet is also highly recommended, as well as their Beyaynetu, which is a delicious vegan assortment. I cannot say enough kind words about the service. The drinks are thoughtfully crafted and the staff is highly attentive and accommodating. It is most apparent that the owners take great pride in their establishment as they are always present and working hands-on. This is certainly a good indicator of the care they put into their food and service.

Warm, attentive service from the moment you walk into the restaurant. Really well-made injera. Very delicious food. Menu was easy to understand and approachable for someone new to Ethiopian & Eritrean food. What sets this restaurant apart from the other Ethiopian restaurants in Portland is, the amazing ambience.

Wonderful entrées. Vegetarian dishes bring an extra level of freshness. Plus, Jared’s cocktails are amazing!

After entering we had the host take us to our table immediately. After sitting we decided to switch our table due to direct air from HVAC. The host was sweet to change the table for us. After placing our order, it took around 15 minutes for it to arrive. Hope that improves over time since they have been open only for a week. The food was amazingly delicious but the quantity was too less. We ordered the vegan platter which is $20. The quantity has reduced too much in comparison to what they were offering at their old location. Maybe it’s inflation. We also orders a side of Shiro which is one of the best thing to get. Overall our experience was good.

Fantastic food and service. Reasonable prices for the quality you get. Definitely ask your server about the spice levels. Some dishes can be very hot. We had the sambusas, awaze tibs, and alicha and it was excellent. The amount of injira was perfect.
