Not a large place, yet with very accommodating bar space, in addition to tables. Creative modern PNW fare, with lots of smart Japanese interpretations. Akashiaky, Hyogo specialty is one treat you don't come across often. Sake & shochu list is good, I'd love for the region of origin to be indicated, also. Great nigiri options from great sources.
Truly delicious food. Sushi was high quality. Some of the best I've had outside Japan. Pork belly was to die for. Service is pretty good at not being intrusive. Desserts were tasty. Only downer is they ran out of one appetizer I wanted to try. Overall 10/10, would return.
Had dinner here not too long ago. I am no foodie, but having said that, enjoyed every dish. My guests, whom already had been here numerous times, ordered. The many shared dishes were wonderful. Excellent service and friendly atmosphere. Great fresh food!
All around amazing. The staff are excellent! Brunch is incredible and never a wait. Best french toast I've ever had and their breakfast burrito is excellent. I love this place! A definite favorite.
Ridiculously good food (meat grown on their own Oregon ranch), excellent and attentive service, delicious cocktails, all with a contemporary Japanese flair. Well worth the money! OMG, I'm stuffed and still salivating just thinking about it. I will be back, for sure.
Outstanding spot! High quality and local ingredients prepared with Asian flair.
Really creative menu, very well-executed. They take obsessive care in sourcing the best ingredients and it shows.
Highlights for me were the wagyu steak, perfectly fried oysters, nigiri plate made with care, and the "Japanese" (yuzu-flavored) bread pudding.
We sat at the counter which I recommend. The cooks, while busy, are also friendly and interactive. Welcoming and attentive service seems to be making a comeback in Portland, an Pono does a great job of it.
A good place to bring friends from out of town for a snapshot of what the Portland dining "scene" is all about. My only complaint is that it was tough to park in the area; just something I need to plan better for next time.
I have been here 3 times. The first time I had omakase and it was very good. The 2nd time I had regular dining and it was good. The 3rd time I had omakase again and it was excellent. The chef actually served us 14 courses, out of the 14, twelve were very good, some were exquisite. Omakase is the way to go at this place.
Delicious food and sauces. The bacon fried rice is fantastic, not overpowering. The fish/sushi is amazing and soft. I'm coming here again!
This is one of my favorite places for brunch. They really care about what they serve, and the quality of the food is outstanding. I highly recommend eating here if you're looking for a new brunch experience!
Beautifully prepared food. Each dish I have tried has been complex and rich in flavor
I have been back several times. Looking forward to trying their authentic Roman soon.
