I have dined at Swagat on 21st at least 10 times. I usually start my meal with a Samosa, but this visit I ordered the Rava Masala Dosa. I absolutely loved it. The crepe made from cream of wheat and rice flour was crispy. The dosa was stuffed with a vegetable curry similar to what is in a samosa. This is my new favorite appetizer and it is a great one to share. Since I was trying different dishes I ordered a lamb keema. It too was delicious and had a perfect level of spice. My eggplant curry was tasty as always. The service was great also.
Decent Buffet. Not a ton of choices, but the Tandoori chicken is good. Search for best Indian in PDX continues...
Probably my favorite Indian Buffet. Food is ALWAYS good. For a $10 all u can eat!!! Just great. Worst thing abt this place is finding parking in the area!!
Yum! Great for the gluten free person! The mixed veggie pakoras are to die for, the pappadums at the beginning are a nice touch, and the tikka masala is buttery smooth-divine!
Awesome food, loved this one and the one in Beaverton
Yummy Lunch. Great Buffet for lunch. Always tender lamb. Great Spices. Good Value.
Good service. Food was hot and tasty. A quality indian chow experience!
I'd give this place about 4.... I'd give this place about 3.5 stars. The food was mostly excellent. I ordered the South Indian combo and the dosa was above average. However, the idli and vada were terrible (heavy & dense). As a starter, the chili chicken was phenomenal. We also had the fish masala. The masala taste was truly authentic, but the fish was tough. The thali or dinner version comes with Nan, rice, dessert, & 3 small dishes for only $3 more- well worth it and very tasty. Being Indian, it's always amusing to be served non-Indian wait staff. Although service was mostly excellent, I was slightly annoyed that our waitress didn't box our leftovers for us. She was nice about it, but she also made it abunduntly clear that doing so was not part of her job. Now I normally don't care about this, but we were seated at a small table & there wasn't much space. The food was quick and freshly prepared. I would definitely come back.
Update: Went back 2 weeks later. The food was again better than average, but the service continues to be subpar. Our waiter did not take our order or serve us water for 10 minutes. Also, he forgot to ask us about the spice level. We realized this when we went back to another table to confess it and took their updated orders. By then our food had already been brought.
Nicely decorated, large space with very good, not great Indian dishes. The mainly non-Indian wait staff was attentive and helpful. When in Portland's Nob Hill give it a try.
This buffet is delicious! The selection is great because it offers a array of flavors and textures that all work great together, regardless of what you put on your plate. The only problem is that it's SO delicious that I have NO self control, so by the time that I finally stop eating, I can hardly move and I just want to sleep for a day or two. The price is right though, and the place is clean. The staff is very friendly and the service was good. Yelp Swagat Website
"Good Indian restaurant. The servant was so friendly and patient in explaining the foods and ingredients. Tried lamb Curry, Chicken Tandoori, and mango lassi with garlic bread. We will be back there. The flavors were fantastic, and the cozy ambiance made our dining experience even better. Plus, the portions were generous, so it's great value for your money."
Absolutely loved this place! As a South Indian, I can say that the food quality was actually really good. The Mysore masala dosa has a different masala than I’m used to in states like AP and Karnataka. But, it was okay. The vegetarian thali had good variety. The sambar, was the highlight for me. The rest of the things on the thali were pretty subpar. Nevertheless, a good place for a wholesome meal.
One of the good indian restaurant in Portland. I suggest give your try once.
We tried veg thalis and Chai.. quantity-quality was really good
$$- prices are very reasonable
I come here every now and then as we live close. The service is always good, they are very helpful and attentive. The food is fine. They have an extensive menu to choose from. I had their pakora yesterday for the first time. It was unexpectedly good, freshly fried, not greasy, they were fresh and crispy. I had shrimp saag and it was good. Not too spicy shrimp was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Swagat if you are looking for an Indian restaurant.
I loved this place! Got the recommendation from a local. The staff were super friendly and the food came out quickly. The chicken tikka mild was not too spicy but the flavor was the best I’ve ever had. My friend ordered the Lamb Curry and asked for them to make it as spicy as possible…it had her in tears! She loved it too!
Food and service were amazing here. I had the mixed grilled platter which came with shrimp, tandoori chicken, beef steak and some veggies. Savory and delicious. We also tried the tikka masala and really enjoyed everything. The aesthetics were beautiful and we will definitely be returning soon.
TASTY THALI
Their buffet was a casualty of Covid and they now have a reasonably priced Thali option for lunch instead. You can pick vegetarian, chicken, or goat and it’s way more food than I can eat in a sitting.
Service was a tad slow when I went for lunch, but very friendly and we all know how hard it is to have adequate staffing these days.
I wish the spicy dishes had a bit more of a kick to them and it would be grand to see them offer Saag occasionally for Thali.
Their 5 star rating is solely for the Thali experience and not for supper, as I think their full menu is overpriced and not well-executed.
We ordered andra dosa and it came with sambhar. Taste was good enough. No complaints. We also ordered paneer tikka masala which was yummy too but it was very rich with cream. Taste was amazing though!
Garlic naan was tasty and fresh too.
Overall:
Taste - 5/5
Service- 5/5
Cleanliness- 4/5
This place has real Indian food and non spicy. So you can actually taste all th flavors
I had my usual lunch—the vegetarian thali. Palak paneer, sambar, mint chutney, raita, veggie dish of the day, pakora, dal curry, salad, rice, and dessert.
The thali comes with a basket of naan which is so helpful in getting the food into your mouth.
Today’s thali had the gulab jamun—so yummy! Gulab jamun is a fried pastry ball in honey and rose water syrup.
I decided to get a cocktail and went with the Summer in Goa. Refreshing citrus drink with vodka, guava, and lemon.
All the yums!
