There were six people in our party and we all loved this place. It had a really great atmoshphere and I enjoyed listening to the Blues.
Beer selection was great and the party enjoyed it. I should have looked at their cocktail menu better, but I ordered the Bridge-Town Manhattan and I was disappointed. I'm a Manhattan type of person, but this was really sweet.

Excellent BBQ place. This place does not get enough credit compared to other places yet I would say it is one of the best BBQ I've had in Portland, better than podnah.
Their sides were also very tasty and their sauces are excellent. Overall would definitely go there when craving BBQ. Also there's parking in the back of street parking is a problem!

As a born and bred Texan, I am picky about my barbecue. I stopped in at Russell St on a business trip and I was blown away by the quality of their food. Their classic sauce is one of the best I've had. Their brisket was mouth watering and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were creamy and fluffy; the Mac and cheese was generous. I finished my plate and just when I thought it couldn't get better..... They brought me my "deep fried pie" with chocolate hazelnut filling. Holy cow. Game changer. I love this place. Definitely returning.

Had the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs with beans and candied yams. Some of the best BBQ I've eaten. Ribs were juicy and tender and the sauced complimented everything very well. 10/10 would BBQ again.

Solid BBQ with amazing cocktails and chill vibes. If you can, come a bit earlier for dinner and if it’s sunny, enjoy the tasty BBQ outside 🤓

Omg what can I say about this place other than you have to go here. There was a local event happening and we had to wait over an hour and a half to get seated because it was so crowded. We almost left but really wanted BBQ so we stuck it out - it was worth the wait. The food was so good and juicy. The staff was great. If you’re in the area this is a must eat place.

it’s expensive. it’s very, very good, but expensive. couple tables outside are a good addition but mostly indoor seating. an upscale take on barbecue for sure. MVPs: laurelwood draft, gravy (comes on the mashed potatoes), and pulled pork (just so tender, beautiful color, terrific flavor). mac and cheese needs a little bit of work to catch up to these others but it wasn’t bad by any means. would recommend if you’re ready to spend $20 on a plate of bbq..

First time there and it was really good! I got the bbq chicken sandwich. The bread/ bun was so delicious! The sides are $3 extra, I got mashed potatoes and it comes with white gravy, it was worth $3.

Good food but even better deals at happy hour. Pulled pork with sweetened yams were delicious! Pint of beer for $4. They also have delicious BBQ sauces.

Always delicious here. The owner is from Texas, though I never had Texas BBQ... I can say this is great. It isn't mouth watering, but definitely better than anything in the San Francisco Bay Area that I've tried. The meat is tender and juicy.. I got the beef brisket. And the beef rib is amazing with how the juices just flow and how it comes off the bone. The drawpack is that to add a rib it's about $8. Not something I'd do all the time nor a place I'd eat at constantly. The Mac n cheese and the potatoes with the corn bread is phenomenal.
Highly recommend this place for people to check out, I would consider this a special occasion type place. The price was pretty high.. but I'm also just a starving college student.

I'd been meaning to try this place for a while. I'd heard good things and I like good BBQ. Ribs with Classic BBQ sauce didn't disappoint; Mess O' [kale] Greens were tasty and not bitter like collards have the tendency to be if not done perfectly; Candied yams weren't overdone.
Service was quicker than expected [on a Wednesday night at 7] and our waitress was super nice and attentive! Prices are a little high, even for a BBQ joint but it probably balances out. I'd give it a 4.5 if I could.

Best bbq place in Portland...
Amazing pulled pork...
Great choice of beer...
Like the tasting option....

Really decent BBQ. Great sauce, sweet and spicy. We split the meatapalozza plate with pulled pork, brisket, baby back ribs, potato salad, baked beans and cornbread. Def enough dinner for two!

One of the best meals I have ever had. Seriously have not been this satisfied with a meal in a while. Had to go a second time the next week!

Solid Southern comfort food. Could smell the smoker from the car. The meat is delicious and on point. Didn't have to wait and the prices are affordable.
Vanessa Cade
Delicious brisket. Full and flavorful plates. First time here and will be back again soon! Thanks for the great atmosphere and service

Solid BBQ joint. Great mix of meats, sides and appetizers. I'm a big fan of the BBQ Shrimp.

I really enjoy the pulled pork, sauces, and greens here. Most of the time the wait is very reasonable and staff has always been friendly.

Better improve service training and more precision when kitchen is hit hard. My visit Saturday evening provided an experience with Russell Street BBQ's brand they should discourage. I compare my experience to spending time at a dealership buying a new car. You better have set aside at least 2 hours! But you do expect faster service at a restaurant. Now, their customer service is fine, even though I got a sense my server was deer under headlights when the kitchen is in malfunction mode. The the lapse killed my appetite, because the timing is off in the kitchen, and line-staff had no customer service literacy how to distract the customer with courtesy beverage or snack - even an admission things were not going well. I compare eating at a restaurant to choreography in dance. All about timing. The kitchen tempo is off. The food server had no clue how to mitigate the excruciating wait. Additionally, customers waiting to be seated was at overflow, with some outside. Now, that is a good sign something is wonderful happening with the food. But, what good is it to have a breed horse if you have no skill how to ride. Russell Street BBQ sits on the shoulders of Doris' Restaurant, a black-owned establishment that did well at this location until they lost their base clientele. At their original location on North Fargo and Williams Avenue during the turn of the century, they were considered top of the heap on bbq, southern cooking. Sadly, upon relocation to North Russell St, they closed after a failed attempt to cross-over. Good business practice to increase profit margin, unless change in culinary strategy negatively impact food experience and taste your base is accustomed to.
While the current owners are not on that path yet, I suggest they get the timing in sinc between order/kitchen/table and food arrival, or loose the music that got them to the dance.

Had not been there for a few years to thought we would give it a try. W hat a Disappointment! Ordered a hush puppy basket to start. They were dry and tasteless. Tried some salt but that didn't help. I ordered the grilled jambalaya?? Grilled? The meat was good but the veggies not cooked. They were though burnt around the edges. Large chunks of raw onions. Not sure what the sauce was supposed to be but turned out to be vinegar tomato flakes. Only 1/2 of the rice was edible. The balance was too dry. My husband had a brisket sandwich w/ potato salad .he liked the salad but the brisket was dry. We both felt like our meal was not worth $32 + tip. I grew up in SC, lived in NC for 5 yrs. I can tell you I have never had food that tasted or looked like this b4. The waitress while nice and friendly did not pick up we weren't pleased with our dinner. We will not be back.

Had the beef brisket with macaroni and cheese. The meat was very dry and the mac was lukewarm when I received it. The hush puppies were lacking in any flavor.

Have always check out Russell Street BBQ after going to Red Cross to donate blood. Excellent place to increase your protein blood levels. It never disappoints me with their pork spare ribs. Highly recommend it. Pork fat rules!

The drinks were the best! However, not impressed by the food. Split a meatlover’s plate ($26) with my Mom and it was small, the ribs were tough, the brisket was soggy???, and the sides (MAC and Cheese and Beans) were awful. Not my taste. Best foods we ordered were the hushpuppies and fries. Two stars because of the hushpuppies and fries and the Apple Burbon drink I had.

Came in for lunch and really enjoyed this restaurant. BBQ was excellent and the down home vibe is the best especially the great Blues music playing. The only suggestion would be to have more beer/IPA selections to choose from. In a Microbrew city such as Portland the possibilities are endless. Lastly, service was excellent. Will definitely be back!

This place is awesome. Not much to look at from the outside but the smells emanating are definitely enticing. The staff was very pleasant and did a good job. The sausage, fries, and ice cream were fantastic. The dipping sauce for the fries was delicious and had a slight smoky taste. The meat was tender and also had a great smoked flavor. No need for any sauce but the different sauces were excellent. The fried chocolate pie had a decadent rich chocolate flavor. And our bill wasn't outrageously priced. Will definitely return on the next trip to Portland.

The atmosphere is great, the staff was nice. Great food! I had the smoked meatloaf sandwich and it was great! The portions are also very generous! I highly recommend this place.

Excellent food, amazing brisket. We had the chicken fried steak with greens, and the beef brisket sandwich it was delicious excellent service as well

My fiance and I have been here twice. Bbq is amazing and sauces add even more to it all. My favorite side by far is the greens. Bbq pork is the best entree item but have enjoyed many other items as well, like, the sausage, beef ribs, frito pie, mac n cheese, toast etc. Ok, service but the food makes up for it.

I had the 1/4 lb BBQ brisket and a wedge salad. On the table are a variety of sauces to add to the meat (I chose Killer although it was spiced just right, not too hot). It was just the right amount of food. Our waiter did everything to accommodate our large group (18 of us, I think) who came in at staggered times. Great atmosphere, excellent food and decent prices. I will be back!

Fantastic!! Tried this place after being disappointed down the street.... this place blew me away! Great great food & friendly staff!

A group of Southerners walks into a BBQ place in the PNW with low expectations, then realized they’d fallen through a portal to Nashville. OMG. Not to be missed. So delicious.

Not much to brag about. Way to many frito in the frito pie made. This oval formed mound called frito pie for. $7.50 sucked. And only had bottled coke and she, the waitress was quick to snatch up the empty bottle, like not that serious for 10 cents. Menu prices outrageously. Sexpensive so why I went with the in the end dissatisfied non flavorful frito pie. I left it. You want for REGAL status bbq go to Dickies BBQ Pit. Kids eat free on Sundays with a paid adult and they have slamming daily discounts. Free pop refills, at restaurant Cascade Airport Way. And tasteful frito pie, as is their whole menu with smoked meats and oh yea not a small muffin dried out corn bread for $1.50. I went last night the 9th, 2017, Nov. And they have their bbq sauces, 2 bucks 8oz., 3 kinds and 2 different seasoned rub salts under $4, at Winco's. Won't go back to Russles. POOR. I smelt NO waifing cooking anything. Go elsewhere, Dickies won't disappoint YOU and YOUR tastebuds, better and cheaper but NOT in a cheap like that way. Your sniffer knows. Chow. Marie
