My son and I decided on this restaurant to celebrate his birthday and we are so glad we did. We arrived early and we're seated early. When we arrived at the table, therev was a bit of birthday confetti in the table along with a card!!! The food and service were outstanding! After dinner, they brought my sin a free dessert with a candle in it and "Happy Birthday" written out in chocolate on the plate. Besides having a great meal, I appreciated the little details making our visit a bit more special!!!
The food was amazing! The steaks were soft and moist! The lobster Mac and cheese were on point and the meld of flavors was to die for! Loved everything that we ordered.
great tasting and prepared steaks. being a health nut I wish they would have a grass fed option. Ill probably order fish the next time I go. eating fish at a steak house is kind of an oxymoron.
Since moving to Broadway, Ruth Chris in Portland has become my favorite in the city pushing out El Goucho. The steaks are cooked just the right amount for everyone in our party, which ranged from medium-rare to medium-well. The one thing I wish had been available was Cajun seasoning. The 2014 bottle of Prisoner, red blend was outstanding (I'm searching for a case). Service and ambiance were excellent.

Mothra Says.......Maybe The Best Ever From Chock to Block. On a recent cold blustery Portland evening, my lovely wife K and I handed my car keys off to the valet in front of Ruth’s Chris Steak house on Broadway in Portland. Although I made an 8pm reservation with the one booth with the view of the street, we were in fact about 30 mins early. The young lady with the smile at the coat check area asked for my wifes coat then directed us to “the one booth with the view of the street.” This woud not be the only surprise of the evening.
In short order we were greet by our maître de’s assistant who was very kind. He asked if there was a special occasion for this evenings dining, and I replied; “a wedding anniversary.” After a few moments our server for the evening Jim (James) introduced himself and congratulated us on our anniversary. Jim went into some detail on how the menu worked, whether ala cart or prefix. Soon a glass of St Supery sav blanc arrived for K and a glass of Franciscan Equilibrium for the Moth Man. Next time I am down in the Napa Valley, I am stopping into Franciscan Cellars. This was a fantastic white blend.
I had been anticipating great things from Ruth’s Chris during this my first visit to this downtown Portland establishment. Soon after our wine arrived, the young lady at the front desk arrived with rose petals and began sprinkling them onto our table and mentioning a Happy Anniversary to us. Again, not the last pleasant surprise of the evening. Jim swung by and took our order and in addition to our dinner order, I asked Jim to have my Filet cooked “blue.” He understood. In fact he mentioned that his kitchen has an oven that cooks from up and below at 1800 f. Hence the ability to get it right
15 or so minutes later, Jims assistant (sorry that I have neglected his name) arrived with K’s salad: a beautiful Ceasar with house made croutons, fresh sliced parmesan cheese and just delicious. Moth’s salad was an Arugula with candied walnuts, crumbled bleu cheese, apples with red onion. Wow. And not a minuscule portion either.
After a time the entrees arrived: K and I each ordered off of the pre fix menu. We both had the salad, a 11 ounce filet (what?, yes 11 oz’s of filet mignon), and a dessert off of the menu. In addition, Jim had opened and let breath one of my bottles from my cellar: a 2010 T-Vine Petite Sirah from the northern Napa Valley. This wine paired extremely well with our filets. K ordered her filet medium rare and mine (you guessed it: blue in the center). Each of us were not disappointed. In addition to our lovely filets, we had a dish of creamed spinach, 3 types of glazed and roasted carrots, & potato gratin. As you can see in my photos, my filet cooked blue was amazing. K’s filet was cooked to her specifications as well: red in the middle, but not running onto the plate. Jim poured our T-Vine wine and we absolutely enjoyed our dinner.
For the next 15 minutes, if you listened closely, crickets could be heard at our table. No, not a chance could I have finished the entire 11 oz filet given all of the beautiful sides on our table. And, I had a dessert and coffee coming. This was turning out to be what you readers call a slam dunk. Could this be a perfect five out of Mothra’s 5 point scale? There had never been a perfect 5.0 from the Moth man. I must say that this filet was the best piece of steak that I have ever tasted..... ever! The carrots were roasted with just a bit of crunch, the creamed spinach was fantastic, the cheese sauce on top and inside the gratin was amazing but the potato gratin itself was undercooked. Breadsticks were served. Dinner with my Petite Sirah,.... this was one unforgettable dinner. Wait: Jim brought over a cheesecake and a crème brulee for dessert. Two fantastic desserts. Two and a half hours later, we thanked Jim and his team and paid the bill. We will be back.
The cuisine, the experience, and the unforgettable customer service was extraordinary. Mothra says....4.95 of 5.0. Highest yet.
Steak at it's best. From the moment we walked in the door we had superb service and attention. We did not have a reservation but were seated at a great table in the bar area. Very nice atmosphere - light and airy with tall windows for lots of light. The staff were so attentive without bugging us. My bf and I both had steaks that were excellent in flavor. My filet was cooked to a perfect rare, his rib eye was cooked more medium than his requested medium rare but it was still excellent in flavor. His caesar salad was delicious in flavor, my spinach salad was good but the dressing did nothing for it. Mashed potatoes were really good. The molten chocolate cake was more cake than molten - drier than I would like for a molten cake. But good flavor.
Once again, amazing service. Great food.
Not too shabby!. We arrived at Ruth Chris a few minutes prior to our 6:30 reservation time. It was a Sunday night and parking wasn't too bad. Glad we didn't splurge on the $9 Valet parking we found a spot less than a block away. The doors were opened for us and we were shown to our table, which was small but awkwardly long plus very close to other couple on both sides. Which made it difficult to hear each other talk but easy to hear our neighbors conversations. There was a long wait before our order was taken, we thought they had forgotten us. But once we ordered our selections, we both chose an option from the ruths classics. Our service improved vastly! Our Salads were delightful. Our Steak and prawns were cooked to perfection and our dessert was amazing!
I ordered the filet mignon medium, but was more rare than I would like. Overall it was delicious, I'm just glad I had gift cards since the prices are outrageous! If you're looking to indulge and spend some $$$ this is the place.

Outstanding. Six of us went to Ruth's Chris last Friday night to celebrate a milestone acomplishment in my life. I was not impressed on my first visit to Ruth's back when they were located on 3rd St. But... I had $200 in gift cards to use so it was an obvious choice for a "nice" night out.
I was blown away... our server was as professional and competent as any I have run into in some of the best steakhouses in Boston, Chicago or San Fran. Every detail was attended to without being intrusive. She was the consumate pro!
To the food... the first time I dined at Ruth's Portland I was very unimpressed. The NY Steak was not particularly tender... and was somewhat overcooked from the requested med-rare. This visit I oredered the KC Strip which is a bone in NY. It was without a doubt one of if not the best steak I have ever had the pleasure to gobble. And gobble I did.
The appetizers, salad/soup course, entree and deserts were ALL perfect. I would not have changed a damned thing! It was a very special night, all in our party were gushing about how wonderful the food and service were and we all agreed... while expensive, it was well worth it. To have 3 appetizers, 6 salads or soups (I was the only one who skipped a salad in favor of the lobster bisque, no regrets on that choice!), 6 steaks (5 filets, one KC strip) PLUS 6 deserts we all passed around... all this for under $400 (before tip)? Oh.. and cocktails! REALLY REALLY GOOD cocktails! Well, I think it was actually a very good value for what we received - A very special night out. I am not a 1%'er. I am quite frugal, and while the bill total was rather breathtaking, it was still a good value for what we experienced.
Meat Heaven. What a lovely place! We easily made online reservations for our anniversary, noting the occasion on the web form.The entire staff is friendly and efficient and we were greeted immediately and taken to our table and checked out coats. This place is not cheap, but for a special occasion it's totally worth. Our server was a very friendly lady and she guided us through the menu and how everything worked, then brought us our complimentary champagne toast. We ordered the porterhouse for 2, 40oz and some sides. Our giant steak came out sizzling and cut into portions. We ordered medium-medium rare and probably got more red than pink (great for me, my husband prefers a bit more done) so if you are looking for a pink with a little red steak order medium. The steak was amazing and the sides were also delicious, as well as the bread. We rolled out of there without any leftovers on a protein high. Great place for a special occasion.

Always Good. I know its a chain but the steak is the best in town (yes, better than Ringside or El Guacho). Pretty close to Morton's. Service is always the best.
This place was recommended by a co-worker so we decided to give it a shot. We got a reservation since it seems like they book up quick. My wife and I had steaks and everything was good. Final bill for the two of us was over $200 and we don't drink so expect to pay a decent amount for the night. Overall it was good but there wasn't a dish that really stood out to us. They staff were all super nice and very attentive.
Love it!!!!! The steak was perfectly cooked, very flavorful and so tender. Went there with my husband for my birthday, the table was decorated with a birthday card.

Great service from Mark! He was a pleasure to have as a server. Parking can be bad, depending on time/day. They do have Valet, as trying to find street parking can be hard. Very clean, nice, and upscale feeling restaurant. You will be spending $60 min. Per person for steaks. Our steaks were very good and they do cook a true rare on my fillet. Their wine selection was large, although being a Sonoma/Alexander valley wine "snob"... None stood out as great for my wife and I. Service again was great, the food was given four stars just simply due nothing really stood out as amazing. For the price and quality- would I be back? Probably not by choice. It was a let down on "presentation"... Yes, it's a la carte- although I would have expected better "looks" than a steak that seemed like it was sous vide and grilled- then tossed onto a plate and tossed into an oven or a potato just tossed on a plate.

The first time had filet, garlic mashed potato, and wine. The second time ordered chicken and New York strip.
The meat was great, chicken was pretty good, garlic mashed potato was good but could be better. The next time if i order meat, it would be filet.

Best place to go for a date night! We love Ruth’s Chris for the vibe, service and most importantly- Food!! Excellent service, we had made a reservation earlier that day which was super easy to do on their website. We were greeted by the hostess upon arrival and she let us know our table was almost ready. Waited about 10 min, but that was because we got there about 15 min early (hoping on a Tuesday evening it wouldn’t be too crowded). We shared 2 appetizers, the goat cheese and artichoke dip and seared ahi tuna. Both were excellent and not too filling. My husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the filet. Both were delicious and cooked to perfection! We ended our night with their classic cheesecake dessert. We left happy, filled with incredible food and eager to return!
It’s a must visit steakhouse! I love that it’s not only a Portland restaurant, but that we can enjoy it most any state that we would travel to.
Celebrated milestone birthday. We were greeted warmly. Table setup was nice. Brandi provided excellent service. She helped us navigate menu and gave us great recommendations. Offered extensive knowledge of menu offerings. She is a professional. Pace of service was good.
Food was excellent. Lamb chops were tasty and well seasoned. Shrimp and ribeye was awesome. Loved sides; lobster mac and cheese and creamed spinach. Took advantage of midweek specials and saved some $$$ and got great parking, while avoiding crowds.
Absolutely one of the best meals we’ve ever had at Ruth’s Chris. Cody was our waiter and he went above and beyond to make sure my sister had a wonderful birthday. The hostess was so helpful and kind as well. The food was delicious and the service was amazing.

Excellent in all respects, as one would expect (with the usual prices to match). Had lobster and creme brulee for the first time, both great. Used the sea of cheese from the macaroni to dip bread and top the side of mashed potatoes.
Top notch service to boot. Would come back and try something from the limited happy hour menu next time.
Ruth Chris is at the top of our list for dining in Portland. Tonight we celebrated our anniversary and Cody made it special and memorable. This was not the first time Cody has taken care of us and he is always friendly, upbeat, and knowledgeable about the menu and how to create an optimal dining experience.
