We enjoyed a Friday night dinner in the dining room. The staff was attentive and super friendly. The food was excellent. We ordered the mussels appetizer, the mussels were steamed perfectly, but the soup base was the star of the show. I ordered the lamb pasta dish, which was delicious, and I was surprised by the portion, my husband had to help me finish. My husband ordered the duck as an entree and he said it was fantastic, portion size was basically half a duck, which was amazing.
Stopped in for dinner before a nearby concert. Ate on the bar/bistro side with a cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Drink menu was great, with lots of options. Had the cassoulet as an entree and it was absolutely delicious. Will definitely look for opportunities to return!
Extremely helpful and friendly staff, very professional and knowledgeable service. The food is excellent. Everything we ordered was great, including the wine. The wine list is fairly large with several Oregon wines in addition to French, etc.
Fantastic French meal. Farm to table ingredients, friendly staff, inviting atmosphere. Portions are plentiful and savory. You won't be disappointed.
The food was excellent. Service was great. Our entrees were taking particularly long but the waiter was attentive and informative about the situation. As a thank you for our patience, they unnecessarily "took care of" one of our rounds of drinks. Free drinks or not I'll be going back.
This downtown Portland farm to table mainstay has been near the top for decades for good reason.
Excellent menu featuring fresh Northwest cuisine, bistro classics and elevated sandwiches. Several vegetarian options as well, some vegan. Flawless preparation and presentation. Cassoulet was rich, savory and satisfying without being heavy. Vegan samosas with vegetable curry also outstanding.
Service is informative, professional and unfussy. Not expensive for the quality as long as you don't get carried away by the amazing beverage selection - Higgins was at the forefront in offering craft and Belgian beers when I first came here in the 1990s.
You can't go wrong at Higgins.

My friend and I sat at the bar, on a crowded Friday night before a show downtown. The bar tender was friendly and knowledgeable. It was loud, but a good vibe. Food was excellent, drinks were good, all the staff we interacted with were very professional.
Amazing food, service was superb and the atmosphere was just so cozy!
My business partner and my 8 year old son came in on our way home from a business trip and we decided to stop in for dinner for her birthday. We all got fish dishes and they were UNBELIEVABLE! Our server, an older English fellow I believe, was funny and just so friendly and knowledgeable!
I will be definitely going here again and again when I come through from WA!
Stumbled upon this place while searching Google maps for a restaurant in downtown nearby to my hotel to meet up with a local friend in Portland. He’s familiar with many of the top restaurants, but had never been to this one though it’s been on his list for a while!
Relaxed atmosphere with staff that really care about the food and your experience. Our waiter had been working there for 29 years and had helped found the restaurant!
I was excited to try the dishes with locally sourced ingredients, and we shared the salmon (pictured) which was really nice and a very substantial pork dish with sausage and a meatball. In hindsight, would have ordered the ling cod as a lighter dish but enjoyed my dinner here.
