I absolutely love Tate's Place. From the endless medium-roast coffee to the little mason jars with ice water, Tate's makes me feel like I can take a deep breath and actually enjoy my morning meal and lunch (especially during a nice, warm day on the patio). The food is given in generous portion sizes and is offered with sinfully delicious waffle fries or mixed fresh fruit. My personal favorite is the chicken avocado sandwich with a side of fresh fruit. Starving? Get an omelet, any omelette. My friend got one and it took up half of her plate! I think there's a reason why there can occasionally be a waiting time to be seated in this little watering-hole of Portage. It gives that home-away-from home vibe with excellent food and coffee. Safe to say, I will be coming back.
We have made Tate’s Place our regular Sunday brunch establishment! We have no complaints about our meals and we usually have Claudia as our server - she is awesome! The one thing that I think would make an improvement is the waiting area as Sunday is a busy day for breakfast and lunch and it can definitely get a little crowded in there!
Wonderful place for breakfast and lunch... haven't had a bad meal. Staff is friendly and dinning area is cozy. Great value for your dollar!
Took my out-town visitors to Tate's yesterday for lunch. They Loved it and all gave a 5 star rating.
The chicken cordon bleu was the best. Not dry as chic sometimes is. Very flavorful. Delicious, cheesy cheeseburger.
The tomato bisque soup was delicious! Should have gotten a bigger bowl. The waffle fries were perfect, neither greasy nor dry. Very good salad with terrific assortment of veggies. Caesar dressing was perfect.
My friends said they want to go again when they're in town. I know I will certainly go again.
Excellent, clean restroom. Parking right outside door. The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Pretty much everything you could ask for in a local lunch.
Tate's food is generally very good. I ordered take out. As I sat on the bench waiting for my purchase. Very fast, someone brought a large bag of food to the register and waved his hand in my direction. The staff continued to talk to each other. My order sat there on the counter a good 3 to 4 minutes before she gave me my purchase. Food was good as always but I'm very disappointed in the staff. I've dined in may times with great service.
It was fairly busy. I didn't feel as though I was overwhelmingly surrounded. So nice atmosphere. The staff was top shelf. Great people doing a great job. Both in front and in back. Tried a panini and would recommend the place to anyone. Tip well people, they need it now more than ever!

The chicken tenderloins and waffle fries were awesome! Prices were lower than expected for the great taste and quality.
We always drive past here and finally decided to go in.It was delicious.Staff very friendly.We had pecan banana waffles bacon and eggs.So good! We definitely will be back.
