Review Monterey Grill - Port Orange

It looks fairly ordinary but was still quite delicious! Perfectly cooked, rare, which is difficult to find at most restaurants these days. Fries were fresh and just the right size. Excellent service, great prices, easy parking and easy location. Recommended 10 out of 10!

We drive all the way from St Augustine just to eat here! It is my favorite restaurant! Everything is always hot, fresh and delicious. The bacon dressing is to die for. We've never had anything here we didn't like!

If you are looking for a quiet place for dinner, Monterey Grill is your spot. It seems to be extremely busy during lunch, but you can get their great food and excellent service at dinner in a much less crowded atmosphere. We had no wait and our food was delivered promptly. Our waiter was attentive, but he did not try to be overly friendly. My favorite dish is the spinach salad with hot bacon dressing -- the combination of spinach, boiled eggs, apple and crispy chicken tenders is delicious. Reasonably priced, easy parking and friendly staff.

We thought we had a winner, but were we ever disappointed! In all fairness, the food was really good. However, we asked for their delicious rolls and things started going downhill. No rolls until 4 pm. It’s a rule. Any Sweet ‘n Low? No. Any to go cups ? We don’t have any. ( the host just happened to find 2 cups.). Also, we were charged extra for salad dressing (It’s a rule!). Well, we have a rule too. We don’t go to places that treat us this way. This is supposed to be California fresh. It’s certainly NOT Florida nice!

I was visiting my daughter and wanted to eat somewhere local that isn't a chain. We will definitely be back!! The food was very good, hot and fresh. The atmosphere was nice, clean and inviting. Our waitress was nice and took care of us.

They have a calm, homey atmosphere and exceptional service, they treat their customers like friends. My parents come here every other week, and Erika always takes wonderful care of my parents and remembers their order everytime. Management always checks on every table, and their food is absolutely delicious and ALWAYS fresh. By far one of our favorite places to come for breakfast/lunch.

The service was superb! Emily is an awesome waitress. It's not easy to take care of a party of 12. And the food was very good. This is our favorite restaurant, especially for special occasions. Thank you Ryan.

This place is always good. Brunch(weekends), lunch or dinner. Shrimp scampi is worth ordering for the garlic bread alone. Large shrimp, yummy sauce. I like that you can get lunch or dinner portions, anytime. First time trying the French dip sandwich. Very good. Their French fries are the best, but I could also have gotten sweet potato fries, also delicious, or fresh fruit. I got the Chicken walnut salad to go, for a friend. I really like their salads with the mini banana muffins.. Service is always good here.

Wow. How embarrassing. A self professed foodie who knows that the 5oz Monterey Chicken is one of the best restaurant meals she's eaten. A petite chicken breast smothered in a white wine cheese sauce and abundant artichoke hearts; the chicken cooked perfectly. Even the mixed vegetables were beautifully cooked, soft yet toothsome. Bravo, MG!

Just amazing. Went here a few weeks ago and the atmosphere was great. I have to say I didn't expect to try a meat lovers quiche but it was delish. Most definitely should be a permanent item on their menu. #Montereygrill #musttry

What A Wonderful Dinner. After the Movies...My husband and I enjoyed a Wonderful Meal at Monterey Grill. I had the Chicken Monterey. Simply delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked-and it had a Very Delicious Sauce with Spinach & Artichokes. My husband had a Burger with Onion Straws. A very nice Greeter Named Chris-Our Waitress and the extended Staff were Overwhelmingly Gracious. I would highly recommend this Eatery and a Must do when you come to Port Orange. We are from Ohio-Catawba Island and have some Wonderful Restaurants there too.

Love it. Everything at this restaurant is always on point. The staff is friendly and efficient. I go every time I come back to town. Always my first stop. Owners are good at showing their smiling faces which is always refreshing to see. Keep it up !

Great restaurant. This has to be our favorite place to eat in Volusia county. Everything we have ordered has been cooked to perfection. Try the steak filet or the salmon with tomato lime sauce. We eat there at least once a week and have something different each time. Great service and food and the selections are reasonably priced.

True Excellence. After an innumerable amount of trips to this establishment I have absolutely nothing bad to say. The guys is always excellentd as well as the service. I prefer the Monterey Chicken for dinner and they have a fabulous cinnamon French toast that is great for brunch. Missing on meals there is really the only thing I really miss about leaving Port Orange for Edgewater. I used to live right around the corner at the apartments and walk over fire dinner regularly. Definitely give them a try.

Best burgers in the Daytona Beach area!

Sad. We have gone to eat there several times and enjoyed it but we went last night and we were very disappointed. 2 of our party were diabetic and needed to eat. We asked the waiter several times where our food was and he finally said the kitchen lost the ticket but our food would be up in 3 minutes. 10 minutes later we asked again. We waited over an hour. there was butter all over on 1 plate after we said no butter.potatoes were cold. not even a dinner roll. our out of town people said never again after they went to the ladies room and it was dirty and dusty in the stalls. We hope . The manager offered free dessert which of course we refused. I hope they fix whatever happened to this place. It used to be so good.

Great food, Great service!. My boyfriend and I have been to Monterey a couple of times, and every time we go it continues to impress us! During or visit last night we sat in the bar area and usually I don't like sitting in the smaller booths, but our service made up for it. He never neglected us, we always had full drinks, kept our table clean, and was really friendly. If I hadn't watched him answer the phone, sit people, and take care of to-go customers, and bar-tend I would have thought he was just a normal server that's how good he was, I was amazed how good of a multi-tasked he was!

Great atmophere. Monterey Grill has been by far one of the best restaurants I have been to. I keep going back every chance I get. My entire family loves the place and everyone that works there. The food is great!!!! The staff is polite, professional and very personable. The staff appearance is very professional. Is like going to a fancy restaurant without paying the high prices. I command the owners for their idea and for their dedication for Monterey Grill. It shows that everyone cares and love where they work. You can see the pride the staff has.

Great food and atmosphere! The chicken fingers are so good and tender its like eating chicken flavored marshmallows!! Yum!!!

Never Disappoints. We love this place. Everything tastes fresh and never disappoints. I've gotten few things off of their menu and while I used and still do love the tomato basil garlic shrimp pasta, I recently had their tilapia piccata and it was delicious~ my new favorite.

Best chicken tenders EVER! Their homey mustard sauce was the best I have ever had as well. So pleased with the food and the price. We were on vacation and contemplated going back for our next dinner out!

Favorite place to go. My two friends and I had dinner there last night, always happy to go there, Our waiter was wonderful . As always the food was the best, I love their salad and blue cheese dressing is on of the best, Salad has baby greens, tomato, nuts, cheese, very fresh. We ordered trio meals, mine was Crab cake, delish, fresh (not overcooked )Veggies and great mash pot., my friends had the salmon, which they loved, prices are right, and you don't leave hungry, The rolls are fresh and hot, with real butter, not a spread. Reasonable...And Good. This was my second trip to Monterey Grill. The first time I had lunch..this time dinner. They took a reservation, which was great because when we arrived ( Friday night) they were busy. Nice to see!<br/><br/>There were eight of us and we tried two orders of their fried zucchini. This version was very good and reminded us of the version we had at Maggiano's Little Italy. I would have liked a little more interesting sauce, but the zucchini was perfectly fried and very, very tasty. At $5.95, it was a very fair price.<br/><br/>Several people had the Chicken Marsala and loved it. The presentation was very good. I had a very good burger cooked exactly as ordered. Someone had salmon and another had a steak wrap. We had two desserts; half portions are available. <br/><br/>Everyone was pleased with their meals and their checks. This place gives you good food, fresh, presented nicely, and at reasonable prices.<br/><br/>They are doing an excellent job. My only criticism is I'd like to see them make a fresh cut french fry and charge a bit more for it. It really would make a huge difference.

Where's the lump crabmeat??. Decided to cheat a tiny bit on my gluten-free diet---which I never do-- and savor a delicious lump crabmeat crab cake...very disappointed. Menu specified lump crabmeat, but there was NONE. Was not worth cheating for this disappointment.

Thank you urbanspoon, for introducing us to an excellent restaurant! The wait staff is very helpful and friendly, and the food! Our plates were clean! The burgers melt in your mouth and the bacon Swiss chicken baguette was so delicious. The prices are better than Applebee's or Chili's. This restaurant is a must try!

So Delicious and Great Service!. My family loves this restaurant! We go there as often as possible and we are always on a budget. We always know when we go to Monterey we will get the BEST food for great prices. The menu has everything from steak to fish to amazing burgers. My daughter loves the Ribeye and says it is seasoned just right. Once we had a big group and needed the check split 3 ways and this was stated in the beginning of our meal and never brought up again and this was done with no mistakes. Our food arrives quickly and is always delicious. I love the Monterey burger if I go on Saturday afternoons on the way home from work as a treat to myself for a week well done. It has mushrooms, cheese and I like it juicy and rare. I get the skinny fried onions rings with it and usually get a cup of soup to take home for the next day.<br/>The fish with piccata sauce is great too.<br/><br/>The staff is friendly and they do a great job. The manager always stops by the table and asks how our meal is and if he can do anything for us. Now thats service! If I ever got a bad meal there (which we never have) I would let them know and Im sure they would fix it to my tastes in not time flat. These people seem genuinely sincere in giving you a great dining experience.

Poor Manager. I had a server dump a whole glass of Diet Pepsi on our table, so bad we had to move and we were covered with soda. When we mentioned this to the manager, he didn't even say SORRY. He then delivered our bill himself, with no adjustment for anything, we were still wet from the soda. When I approached him about this as we were leaving, he didn't seem to care that they had spilled the drink all over us. I told him we would not be back and his comment was "O.K." What kind of manager doesn't care if their customers come bak or not. SO I WILL NOT BE BACK!!!!

Loved it!!. My family and I went to this restaurant and absolutely loved it!! The service was amazing, Jesse was so friendly and interactive. Food came out in a reasonable time frame and our drinks were always full. The decor was very well put together, the wood accents made this restaurant look like a very upscale restaurant without the burden on the wallet! The entire menu was extremely reasonably priced but food was not lacking in taste in the least! Everything was delicious! Cannot say enough about this restaurant!! Impecible service, food and atmosphere!!

Lunch on Friday was terrific. Blueberry ice tea was delicious and the Monterrey Chicken salad was excellent. Will defintiely come back!!

Enjoyable food and atmosphere. I have been here a number of times and have left with a full belly and a smile. Service is great and food delicious. If there were more "light" items on the menu I would probably come here more often. I like the seating at bar for if/when place is packed and I do t want to wait.

Best restaurant in Port Orange. Consistantly great food, friendly and well trained waitstaff, and a refreshing menu with fair pricing. Can be crowded at times but always worth the wait. The shrimp trio is my favorite. 5star by ChefLars

Great service, okay wine selection, not a great steak experience. Steak was bland but cooked appropriately.

Been going to Monterey grill for a long time and have usually had good service until today (3/18). Went to breakfast with family and while the food was fine the service was terrible. Our redheaded server was not attentive and seemed to have trouble with larger groups since he seemed confused having two tables of 6 people. The manager did nothing to help him as she just stood and looked around. Perhaps this guy was partying too much the night before. We had two small children with us and asked to put their food order in first, but he told us to wait. He also didn't seem to know the menu very well since he charged for extra items that were included according to the menu. We will be sure to ask for a different server IF we go back.

Worth a second visit.. Overall nice place to dine great prices, but service was subpar. I will return. BTW Food was great all except the Coconut Shrimp (missing flavor)

QUALITY food and very fresh!. We dined recently at the Monterrey Grill and the food and service was great. We like the Monterrey Chicken and also the salad and rolls and sweet potato fries and of course the mud pie desert. It is off of Dunlawton ave in Port Orange and is very popular and busy so we also frequently get food to go when we know it will be busy in the evening. they do a great job of packaging to go to keep it hot and they have enough help so you get taken care of quickly. I am not sure how they keep theiir food so much fresher than other restaurants but it has to be better for you and makes you want to come back. The inside decor is nice and it is comfortable and there is parking by the door for your to go order pick up. Silverware is polished and clean and everything is immaculate. Wish there were more restaurants like this one.

My friend and I had lunch there on Wednesday and we were both pleased with our meals.<br/>Had loved the Sunday Brunch at The Mainstreet Grill and was so dissapointed it had closed when I returned to FL from holiday in WV. Found out the same couple owned this one and couldn't wait to try it out.<br/>It is My New Favorite.<br/>Thanks for being such great owners.

My Favorite Restaurant. Monterey grill is my favorite restaurant. The food and the service are always excellent. Other restaurants should take a lesson from Monterey on many levels. Upon arrival they take your name and seat you promptly. The greeters are always friendly. The servers are competent and anticipate and meet your every need. The food is yummy. It comes to the table hot and in a timely fashion and the presentation is nice. You can have a nice breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a wide variety of food to choose from. Three of my favorite items on the menu are the carrot cake muffins with warm cream cheese (get a batch to go) and the sweet potato fries are perfect with that dipping sauce. If you happen to save rooms for dessert try the Mocha Mud Pie. The restaurant is clean. And the atmosphere is a quiet cozy one. It's one of those places you want to take your friends. The booths are comfortable and constructed with a tall back on them so you don't feel like you are having your meal with the table sitting next to you. You have your privacy. Those are the things that make Monterey my fav.

Best in the area!. This is perhaps the best restaurant in the area! My family frequents this restaurant all the time and have yet to be disappointed! The food is fresh, full of flavor and and reasonably priced. Though it isn't on the menu anymore, I recommend the chicken artichoke fettuccini as they still honor it in its full glory. Please bring it back! I just tried the California burger recently and it was absolutely delicious. Finally, the Monterrey Club with sweet potato fries and their dipping sauce is amazing. Keep up the good work!

I love this place! Being a local, I've easily eaten here over 100 times, and I've never had a bad experience. Food and service are always outstanding, and on the rare occasion my food wasn't perfect, it is always quickly remedied by the management. If you're visiting or new to the area, this is a must visit for sure!

BEWARE. I wrote a good review about this place, but after our last couple of visits, I'm rethinking that. We're regulars but recently had a bad experience we let slide at the time. To be as brief as possible, went to lunch and were seated, took 20 minutes to get our drinks, and still had no silverware (needed a spoon for the tea). We were told they were washing the silverware. Our waiter kept disappearing and told us he had to help in the kitchen. Wife's food was fine but my burger was bloody and my fries weren't cooked in the middle. We let it all go because we usually like the place and thought it was a fluke. Now fast forward to a month later...2 weeks after Christmas we go there with our Christmas present: A VISA GIFTCARD with a note saying go enjoy your favorite restaurant! So we tried. Our bill was 50 bucks including what we would have left for a tip. They would not take our VISA gift card. The reason? From the waitress: our payer doesn't like it. We asked her to explain and she brought the so-called manager, who added this gem: We're just not set up for it, she says with a shrug. No apology, no sorry for the inconvenience or we hope you liked your meal and will return anyway, NOTHING but a shrug and a non-answer as to why they wouldn't take the giftcard. It's lucky we had cash on us, because we usually don't carry it. Then what would have happened? We won't return, the manager really dropped the ball. She should be trained to explain the reason they won't take the card, and she should be trained to offer some sort of customer service, not just shrug and say we're just not set up to take it. Well you know what? Set up to take it. We can't be the only people coming in at Christmas time with a VISA Christmas giftcard. What nonsense!

I have eaten at Monterey Grill many times (>25) and it has always been great. The management is great as is the service. The food is really good and they have fantastic specials. I love their omelettes. Even the coffee is good. You cannot go wrong here.

My FAVORITE restaurant!. I love this little place. The menu is original and the food is fresh. We have to force ourselves to go somewhere else to eat sometimes, because we always want to go here. Love the monterey salad, the steak is great, love the pasta with shrimp and chicken--there's so much of it, they don't scrimp. The service is good, the place is clean and pretty. I like the dinners and the lunches. I can't even remember all the wonderful choices I've tried for lunch. One thing I'd recommend is turn down the music at lunch time--we couldn't even hear ourselves talk. It's not like that in the evening, but twice at lunch it was. One time we had dinner there and it was the restaurant's anniversary so they gave every table a free bottle of wine. Nice touch.

Love it!. The Alfredo sauce was one of the best tasting I have ever had. I can't even recall one that would top it! It's very delicious and appropriately priced because you can order smaller lunch portions for dinner. That is plenty of food for me paired with a great appetizer for the table. Yum Yum!

A Port Orange Best!. I have frequented Monterey since it opened and have rarely been disappointed. When I want a delicious meal made with fresh ingredients at a decent price I head here. Since becoming a vegetarian I usually order the Monterey side salad with parmesan ranch and a salt encrusted baked potato but also indulge in their crusty mini baguettes, an appetizer, or dessert as well. Their fried zucchini is perfectly crispy and not greasy. My boyfriend always orders the lunch portion of chicken parmesan, it is delicious and the perfect portion. I would recommend the mocha mud pie for dessert it is delicious and a half portion is enough for two to share! For breakfast or brunch it can be on the more expensive side but the quality matches the price. The omelets are delicious and filled with toppings, they'll also substitue egg whites if you prefer. If you are looking to indulge order the Cinnamon French Toast, you won't regret it! It is amazing! They also serve very good speciality coffees. Although I have enjoyed some servers more than others I have never been treated rudely and most always impressed with the service . In fact shortly before opening Malibu Beach Grill the owner recognized us one night at dinner and invited us to a complementary dinner to train the new employees at the Pavilion-it was also a wonderful experience!

Hubby and I couldn't get out (3 kids) but wanted to get take-out after they went to bed. I was tired of the places we usually order from and came across this menu. Wow! Their food is great, I can't wait to go out there. The Monterey Salad w/nuts is awesome. Crab cakes were full of crab and homemade tartar sauce was delicious. Hubby loved his parmesan mashed potatoes. I had coconut shrimp, which were very good but I would definitely go with the fresh/non-fried things here. Also had a baked potato, which had applewood bacon, yum! Can't wait to try the pomegranate scallops, so excited to have found this restaurant!

BURGERS!!!. Looking for a Great Burger? Look no more. Besides the Great Price,(it's a steal) besides the decor and great service is the best burger. For those who are looking for that one burger packed so much you can barely get your mouth around it, and when you do that bit of juice needs to be wiped from your chin. This place is it. On the other side of the coin it is not out of place to eat it this wonderful burger with a knife and fork. Try it, you will not be dissapointed and will not leave hungry.

Don't Waste Your Dining $ Here. If you want mediocre food, horrible service & a complacent manager, then this place should be at the top of your list! Dined there recently on two separate occasions, same outcome both times, TERRIBLE. <br/>Tried to give 'em the benefit of a second chance. but both times were very disappointing. Ugh...<br/><br/>Dirty, filthy lettuce, undercooked fish, stems served for vegetables, food served late (only 3 other tables occupied) a wait staff that acts like they're doing you a favor coming to the table & a manager that just doesn't get customer service. There are too many good restaurants in Port Orange to choose from with good service that makes you want to come back again. <br/><br/>Will NEVER spend my dining $$ here again

This was the first time I have been there and I must say 10 out of 10 . Now I'm not some easily pleased person, I've been to a lot of restaurants and quality is not easy to find but this place is.new so I tried it. The place is CLEAN, WE WERE SEATED IMMEDIATELY , AND OUR WAITER LOVED HIS JOB! Amazing right, he was knowledgeable and very happy to answer questions, the food was amazing also, it came out fresh not.under a heat lamp.for thirty minutes. The food was good the place was clean and neat. And another plus...... get ready for it, quiet! So nice, just a low music not romantic but the owners understand were there to eat not freakin dance, people were talking low and I think its because port Orange is a little more upscale than daytona. So old people are majority but I'm 20 I don't care, what I care about are screaming kids and noisy patrons, it was all around nice there. I will eat there again without a doubt

A+++. I have lived in port orange for over twenty years and for some reason had never made it to Monterey grill. My husband and I went here this weekend as I am soo glad we did! A little upset tha we waited so long though! The food is amazing, the service is amazing and the atmosphere too! I recommend this place HIGHLY!! on top of already having a great server, the manger, John, came by and chatted With us while we were there. He's just as awesome as the food was. We really felt comfortable here. I will come back anytime I can! We found a new favorite restaraunt. I heard that Malibu beach has the sme owners and that place is just as good!! Love it love it love it!!

We have come to Monterey Grill since they opened. We have always had superior food and service. My husband and I both try something different each time we go, and are always pleasantly surprised at the freshness and absolute deliciousness in every bite! Our most favorite restaurant ever! Plus, my 3 yr. old daughter likes the shredded cheddar cheese and they automatically bring her a dish every time we sit down! Wonderful place!

Monterey Grill is by far the best restaurant in Port Orange. My wife and I have tried just about everything they make and have never been disappointed. The service staff is amazing and the food is beyond compare. Eat here and bring friends!

Good. Our service there was a little slow but the food was amazing and reasonably priced. I like to get the fish sandwich with a fruit salad. Sometimes I add a side Monterey salad with the citrus vinaigrette dressing. It is AMAZING! I wish they had a brand selling at target or some place... Anyway, very good, just a little slow one service

Excellent Restaurant. This is a classy little restaurant. The top-notch service is friendly, and greets you with a warm welcome. The food is of the highest quality and freshest ingredients. The chicken salad croissant is made with tender grilled chicken and crisp greens topped with mayonnaise, and served on a soft croissant. The food is not only good, but it is also affordable. The comfortable, and relaxing atmosphere make you feel right at home. The location is very convenient, but get there early because parking is limited.

Highly Recommended. Loved the service, loved the decor, and most importantly loved the food. Worth the trip! I tried the summer salad with mixed greens, fresh strawberries and mandarin orange slices, crumbled feta, glazed walnuts and perfectly seared and sweet scallops served with a wonderful citrus vinagrette! I now make this at home (sorry Monterey Grill). Our appetizers were out of this world and my husbands dinner was superb (and he is never pleased). Good job! A must go!

Delicious!. A bit of a drive from the main Daytona Beach strip, but it was certainly worth the little extra drive. All the meals in our party were delicious, full portions, and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Fish, steak, chicken, salads (all with home-made dressing- I recommend the citrus vinegarette) were all great! Will definately go back.

Nice surprise. Great little restaurant inside that took me by surprise. Great lunch plates, hearty portions, and reasonably priced. Been there a few times now, and it hasn't disappointed.

Classics and a few surprises. Remember all those times when you didn't know where to go, and wished there was something affordable and comfortable nearby, but you couldn't stand Chili's or a Friday's again? Here you go. <br/>Try it for a late breakfast and get their unique (heartburn inducing) take on French toast.<br/>When you don't know what to get at night, go for the crabcake sandwich and sweet potato fries. Not on the menu, but they'll make it up for you.

Disappointed....no fire in the Firecracker Shrimp. We went here specifically to have the Firecracker Shrimp appetizer, we'd had it before and it was wonderful. But something has changed. There was no fire. There was no sauce that it was tosses in. Instead we got somewhat greasy, overly breaded shrimp. Yeah, they were cooked properly, but there was no fire and too much grease. I had an excellent meal at the Monterey Grill recently. A friend had been there for lunch and raved about it, so we decided to try it for dinner. The short 15 minute wait was an indication of a good find!<br/>We started with an appetizer of firecracker shrimp. Outstanding! The shrimp were cooked just perfectly and that is not easy to do, most places overcook their shrimp. The firecracker sauce was equally outstanding, hot, spicy, flavorful, and with just the right amount (though truly if they'd served a bowl of it on the side, I'd have been eating it with my spoon, it was that good!).<br/>For dinner I had Black and White Pasta--linguine in an alfredo sauce, topped with blackened chicken and blackened shrimp. Ten shrimp, a very generous portion, too. It was all excellent. The chicken tender, the shrimp cooked just right, and the alfredo rich and delicious.<br/>My friend had the Chicken Marsala which was equally excellent.<br/>Our waiter was very attentive. As a matter of fact, all of the staff from the host to the waiters--almost exclusively handsome young men--were exceptionally friendly and helpful and courteous, always smiling, greeting you, etc.<br/>I cannot say enough good about Monterey Grill, this was a great dining experience. I can't wait to go there again.
