Staff is great! You order at the counter, but they still come and check on you a couple times. Offered boxes before we needed to ask, offered more BBQ sauce to go with it. And the FOOD! Oh man was it good! Burnt ends were slightly different than most places-really soft melt in your mouth. The Mac and cheese dish was soooo good! So much flavor. And the corn bread! - different and a little sweeter - very moist. This owner knows what they're doing!! Super pleased and great it's a local place. We will definitely be back!

One of the best BBQ places in Des Moines area. Family owned and local. Great service and the food is spectacular. I ordered the Half Rack of Ribs with a side of BBQ Beans and cornbread.
The ribs were phenomenal, hot, meaty and flavorful. The beans are a bit spicy but are delicious.
I have eaten here a few times and will continue to go back, never have had a bad meal.
Highly recommend!

Coming from Texas I have to say BBQ here in Iowa is average at best, usually dry. I've been to 6 different places, most rank one notch above fast food.
Unless you've had really good food you don't have a comparison to gauge. Like someone in Minnesota telling someone in New Orleans that Minnesota has great seafood.
This place had good portion sizes, brisket and ribs were good. Just a side note, most meals come with one side dish, which is more than enough. They portion was almost twice the size of normal. Mac and cheese were great.
Great service and very clean I side.

My fiance and I loved Rolling Smoke! The food was so good. We had wings, burnt ends, pulled pork, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and cornbread. Their cornbread is delicious! The employees are so friendly and welcoming. Great food and a friendly atmosphere will bring us back 😀

I owned Lynn's BBQ in Eldridge, so I know good ribs when I can find them...and you can find them here. The atmosphere is somewhat stark, but it's main focus is take-out, as orders were going out the door rapidly. Good selection of bottled beer. The owner was very friendly. I would come back.

Having lived in Kansas City for about 4 years, I can honestly say that this BBQ is the only BBQ place I have found in Des Moines that is on pair with KC. Most other places cook thier food so it's hot and dry, Rolling Smoke smokes it the right way :) . I would highly recommend the spicy slaw and the garlic parmesan fries for your sides. And the Rolling Ace as the main dish. Was absolutely amazing!

Their cornbread is absolutely delicious, but for $2.95 you get such a small slice. I feel like the slices were twice as big when this place first opened. Two slices would be enough to satisfy me, but paying six dollars for cornbread is just too much. If it weren't for the overpriced cornbread I'd give this place five stars.

Will definately come back. I have goal to review every restaurant in the metro. I had a hankering for wings. I know I review wings more than anything else. Its my favorite food. So went to a place in my backyard. Rolling Smoke barbecue.
We walked in a it is a quaint place and very inviting. The staff was very welcoming.
We ordered the smoked wings. The price point is a little high $18.95 for 12 wings. I ordered my half with Blackberry Habanero BBQ and my girl ordered hers with classic BBQ. We also ordered the Brisket Cheese Fries. Homemade fries with cheese fondue, shredded brisket, and parmesan.
While we waited on our food, we were very impressed with the write ups adorning the walls. We received our order to go so we could chill at home amd watch TV.
The wings were very juicy, some of the juiciest I've ever had. The Habanero sauce while tasty didn't have any heat at all. Now I'm a hot head and am disappointed frequently by sauces that advertise at hot but are not. The one things I missed from these wings was crunch. I wish they would have deep fried them for a minute just to crisp up the skin.
Now a disclaimer, I make this case against all fries that pile ingredients on top of them. I prefer a Steak Fry as the can hold up to the sauces and remain crunchy.
Even, though these fries did sog with the amazing amount of toppings. I couldn't stop eating them. Then there is their amazing BBQ sauce. Taking those fries amd giving a dip in the sauce is a delightful experience. Of course, I wish there was more brisket on it because everytime you scooped up a morsel. You were transported to heaven.
I started this review by saying we will be back because it is obvious this is a startup and they are trying to get their feet under them.
What we had was very good and we have already picked out what we will try next. If you live in Pleasant Hill or Altoona visit this place. You will leave happy. Please support local business.
