Love Caribbean food, and it's been a long time since I last had some so I've been craving it. Pauline's definitely delivered (both literally and figuratively). The food is homey, flavorful, and all around delicious. It's a great price as well. I ordered the chicken patty, the beef patty, and brown stew chicken (comes with 2 sides - I got rice with peas and cabbage).
All of the food was great! I had originally ordered for plantains and rice with peas to be my sides, but I suppose they didn't have the plantains. The cabbage was a good substitute. It's got a mild flavor, a hint of sweetness, and it goes well with the meat. The rice with peas (black beans, really not sure why they call them peas) was also super delicious. Flavorful and plentiful. Very good, although a bit dry. The sauce from the chicken really adds to the rice so you can soak it up.
The chicken itself was also high quality and comforting. Very tender meat. There were bones (I prefer boneless) but not too messy of a meal. The sauce is excellent. Nice and savory. The chicken is also served with some potatoes, which were just okay.
Both of the patties were quite good. Great price at just $3.50. These were very large patties as well, more than the standard. The chicken patty was quite moist on the inside, but very crispy on the outside. It was a bit on the spicy side. The beef patty was delicious as well. It was more crispy. Both of these are great additions to your Caribbean meal.
All in all, Pauline's is a great spot for Caribbean food. The prices here are very reasonable and the portions are hefty. Most importantly, the food tastes like it's soul food, like it's home made. Very good stuff.
Pauline’s restaurant serves Caribbean foods such as jerk salmon, coconut shrimp, curry goat, and oxtail. Serving sizes are large, and prices are reasonable.
I ordered dinner for delivery. I really enjoyed the freshness and flavors of the plantains, curried veggie stir-fry (spicy), jerk shrimp (sweet), curry chicken (mildly spicy), mango-carrot juice, and pineapple soda. I thought that the chicken patties, coco bread, and rice tasted OK.
Having never had Caribbean food, I have nothing to compare this to, but in absolute terms, the food was amazing. My wife and I split the Jerk Chicken & Jerk Shrimp Combo. Though we paid $26 for just one item, it was an enormous portion, and we both ended up stuffed. I’ll definitely recommend this place to anyone I know travelling to Pittsburgh.
Clean. Friendly. Hole in the wall vibe. We’re from the New Orleans area& greatly
miss the surrounding food choices- Especially the red beans& rice. This place is amazing. Love the seasonings. Can’t wait to come back for the coco bread with that goat curry.
This was my first time ordering from Pauline’s. A friend recommended, Sinai ordered the jerk salmon with red bean, rice, cabbage and jerk salmon. It was better than I expected, considering I have order this type of food from other restaurants in the past and was always disappointed. But Pauline’s delivered especially with flavor and portion. My only thing is I would have like more cabbage than rice and the salmon has a slight fishy smell and taste.
Food was delicious. I haven't had a good beef patty like that in years. Wish i didnt take the last one! Super hot inside but other than that will return again.
Ordered the jerk chicken, mac n cheese, and beef patties. Everything was wonderful. Meat was juicy. Rice had so much flavor. Will be back soon
I've been here at least 2-3 times a year and it has never failed me. The jerk chicken, rice and peas(beans) and cabbage are so delicious and well seasoned. Gotta check it out at least once if you live Caribbean food
