Chiefs is my go to bar. Always friendly. Hella hood. Super grimy. Dope Juke box. Come through.
I like hanging in Chief's especially in the morning with the regulars..Nice and calm.
Used to go here all the time. I'm white but mainly a black bar. They're good people, but know your place when walking in here. Otherwise, you'll be forced out if you catch my drift. Watch your surroundings. You're in butter central, if you know what I mean. Miss the good times. Good folks.
This new management have a nice atmosphere. Good music and is smoke free. If you dont like cigarette smoke and want to go to a bar i recommend this place
Pretty decent size place, it was my first time there and it was treated nice so that’s always a plus.
Great food, atmosphere and a friendly staff. I bought a pair of velcro sneakers out of thebasket on a bicycle from a nice man who claimed to be a Vietnam veteran. I don't think he was 50 and I'm still trying to do the math....ask for the Steeler Special
A nice be place after a long day. Includes TVs, music, friendlybartender. Depending upon when you go, you might get a completely different experience - I highly recommend Wednesday nights. Fantastic service, good prices, quality drinks. Not every bartender is a top notch professional, but they are willing to learn if you're patient and give them a recipe to follow. After making it once, they're set.
Always a blast kickin it with the brothas and sistas there! Very diverse crowd. Like hanging out at the UN!
Great LOCAL Bar. Go in & chill. Music sounds great!
I had my 21st birthday here. A while ago, let's say. I remember this bar as a place where grad students, punks, off duty EMT's, old guys from The Hill all sat beside each other, peacefully. Start up at Chief's? Expect to see the floor, face down. In the interim, other bars nearby closed, the internet happened, and we found new ways to meet up. A crowd moved on, grew up. Maybe married, lots just died. It became, to be polite, a drug bar. I stopped going.
Now 20 years later, I walk in, and it's clean, polite, and affordable, as it once was. Don't expect frozen negronis, or avocado toast. It's a place out of time. It is firmly old school Pittsburgh, but how is a clean shot and beer place near a university a bad plan?
Also, let's be really clear: I consider a dive bar to be by definition dirty AND scary. Chief's is neither. It's a neighborhood bar in a working class part of town by a few colleges. That's not a dive.
Don't skip anyone's songs on the jukebox. It won't go over well. Look at the fireman's helmets on the wall. Imagine the mind-blowing amounts of history here. Be happy you're having a drink in a place that may go back a century, nearly unchanged, save a good cleaning. Cheers!
Been going to Chief's for over 60 years. The name has not changed and the customers are down to earth friendly. Benny runs a tight Cafe.
Nice chill spot, not how it used to be. If you haven't been in the last 6months to a year. Come on home and surprise yourself
