Review Valliant's Diner - Pittsburgh

A FOODIE’S FIND OF A VERY PLEASANT FAMILY-RUN DINER, a testimonial that the American Diner tradition is alive and well😎😎😎. The place has a terrific ambiance, throwback to the 1960s. It’s very well lit with natural light. It looks so very clean…. It looks very popular to locals, to not young and old👏👏👏. It’s a 6 to 2 operation, suggesting a successful family business 👏👏👏. The menu is both breakfast and lunch burgers/sandwiches, a handful of salads. The prices are very very affordable. The menu suggests this is a place specializing in Omelettes. We had the Mushrooms Cheese and Valliant’s Omelettes….simple to look at, but a surprising moist and flavorful centers where the egg is king🤩🤩🤩. They were surprisingly satisfying that literally breaks the fast. Coffee was strong and fresh. Service is outstanding. Very highly recommended😎😎😎

✴️ Updated August 16th, 2023 Take a walk back in time. Ty 888K views! Valliant's is a retro 🍽️ 50s diner with nostalgia on every wall you see and and smiles from the staff. I got the steak'n eggs. Asked for it medium. The other person with me asked for it rare. Both steaks done exactly right. The eggs were done perfectly over easy too. My current top picks for breakfast are Gino's Petit Cafe, Harmarville DeLuca's in the Strip A nod to Cracker Barrell If you happen to be out this way, I would say give this and try and see if you like. The food was definitely cooked well. Added more pics.

First time at this diner. This is definitely one of the best diners I’ve ever been to. The waitress was excellent with her service. Very polite, attentive and pleasant. I had the blueberry french toast special. Very tasty and made perfectly. The home style potatoes were excellent. Great coffee and an old school atmosphere. Everything is fresh and you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this diner as you will want to be coming back very often.

This was a pretty good diner. I liked the front row seats near the griddle, it felt like "hibachi breakfast" at times. (I realize other places let you do this as well, but it felt more amplified here.) The service was a bit chaotic and disorganized at times, but what small business isn't experiencing that right now? Either way, the sightly shortstaffed employees were all very kind. Everything was kept pretty clean and the coffee was better than the average diner. The food was very good. They have a full spectrum of ingredients, including my beloved spinach. My wife and I both ordered omelettes. Some people prefer zero brown on their eggs; they say that brown spots means the eggs are burnt from being cooked too fast. Brown on eggs is not a deal breaker for me, but I do generally seek out diners that cook fluffy omelettes without any brown spots. Valliant's cook their eggs too quickly, and while I loved every bite, it would have been that much better if they were cooked a little bit slower. Overall, this is still a five star recommendation. Check them out if you are in the area.

Valliant's Diner offers a comfortable atmosphere with its quaint and family-run setting. It was nice to see Gerri, the original owner's son, working the grill, adding a personal touch to the place. The menu is simple but well-executed, focusing on breakfast staples like eggs, omelets, and griddle items. I opted for the Meat Lover's Omelet and was not disappointed; the cook skillfully prepared it. Accompanying my omelet with wheat toast rounded out a satisfying meal. The staff was notably friendly, and the clientele seemed mostly local—a positive sign for any diner. Overall, my experience was good. Valliant's Diner is a solid choice if you're in the area and looking for a reliable breakfast spot.

One of the coolest diners I've been to! I just absolutely love all the vintage decor and the colorful atmosphere and some good food. This is a definite hidden gem in Pittsburgh that I would recommend to everyone.

Valliant's Diner is a local restaurant that serves simple, delicious breakfasts and lunches. During my visit, the restaurant was clean, prices were low, and the waitress was prompt and courteous. My husband and I enjoyed our sandwich, potatoes, omelet, bacon, and orange juices.

Valliant’s Diner has great comfort food. They have a full service breakfast menu and many lunch options. The staff here is super nice and the atmosphere and cozy.

First time eating here in probably 10 years. It hasn’t changed a bit! My BLT and home fries tasted just as I remembered. We also got a gyro omelet. Also delicious. You can watch the owner make the food behind the counter on the griddle. Service can be slow because they’re busy and have few people working but it’s with the wait to eat at this historic and uniquely Pittsburgh diner. Parking can also be a challenge because the lot is small.

Great breakfast meat lovers omelette with potatoes and rye toast. Very good coffee. Attentive and friendly wait staff. Very reasonable pricing. Can't wait to go back!

This place takes you back to the 50-60's era with their comfy classic diner design. The food was tasty and not greasy at all; which is a huge plus. The breakfast potatoes could have been seasoned a little bit more however the bacon, eggs and French Toast were made to perfection! The parking is a little tough, I advised you to use the Evergreen Road entrance and park behind the diner for ease of access. Must check this place out for sure!

The staff is extremely friendly and the atmosphere is like taking a walk back in time. The food is absolutely phenomenal for the price highly recommend.

We’re in town for Thanksgiving and searched for a diner nearby. We came here by chance and it did not disappoint. Delicious food, friendly service and very well priced.

A classic gem in the North Hills. The food is always excellent, the prices are more than reasonable, and the staff is a pure pleasure. We've finally found a diner to be "regulars" at!

Typical diner. Nothing fancy. Great little diner. If ur looking for a greasy spoon old fashion diner this is your place. FoodFather Approved.

Stopped once and it will be the LAST. Food was horrible and expensive 11.00 for burger, fries and Ice Tea. Thought it was going to be a cute little dinner with the usual greasy food that we all seem to love. What a disappointment. Live and Learn

Will not go back. We were charmed by the 1950s diner decor upon first arriving. Being a small place, we found seats at the bar, which was fine by us. That's where the positive experience ended.
Our waitress took forever getting our drinks and order. I ordered hot tea and she brought me the water, but no teabag. Being one of two waitresses in the place, it took another ten minutes for me to get the teabag. She was very inattentive with us and continually failed to come check on us and refill our drinks.
My omelet was ok, nothing overly special. My brother had a burger and fries, but the ketchup was a horrible replacement for Heinz. Very disappointing for a Pittsburgh diner.
All said, we will not be going back.

HORRIBLE FOOD. I was excited to try a new place for breakfast but was disappointed right away. Their menu is very limited and they didn't have what I wanted, so I ordered something else. I then got my hot chocolate which was the disgusting packet mixture for two dollars!! My french toast was absolutely DRENCHED in butter and cinnamon was LAYERED on top that it was inedible. Normally, cinnamon is mixed in with the egg to cook french toast in, not just thrown on top of it at the end. Then, my side order wasn't even started by the time I got my meal. I will never go back.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I went for the first time in December & liked it so much that I have stopped by a few more times with my friends. I always have a great experience there and the owner, Jerry, is so nice. Sometimes his dad, Greek Pete, is there helping out & entertaining customers with some funny stories. I really enjoy the Valliant Burger with homefries, the Montana omelet or the pancakes (which are extremely filling). Plus the prices are so low you can't complain. It really is a great place & has a lot of character! You should try it!

Hmmm...90%, really?. We've been wanting to try breakfast at Valliant's Diner for quite some time and finally got our chance. Parking lot was full (good sign) so we parked at a nearby community park. The restaurant has a lot of nostalgic charm and kinda makes you smile when you walk in....just wish the smile would have stayed on my face through the dining experience. We were seated quickly and that was the end. Service was horribly slow and waitress quite in-attendant. Although the kitchen appeared to be quite busy it took forever to be served. Food was overcooked and slightly burnt and the toast was a late arrival. Not once did the waitress ask how we were doing or even offer a refill of our drinks. We won't be back and that is a disappointment as we had high expectations from the many positive reviews. I guess standards are low with so few quality breakfast spots in the North Hills area

Are you kidding me?. How this restaurant got so many positive reviews, is beyond me. It took at least 10 min for a waitress to greet us. It took at least 40 minutes to be served, a table who was sat after us got served prior to our table. Waitress never checked on our order, never offered more water, the home fries were burnt and tasteless and my husband's omelet was overcooked. Definitely not returning here

Breakfast for Lunch. Remember the american dream? When people came here to open a business and had a chance to do so before corporate america tooka that dream and exploited it. Well, this place is a heartbeat of that dream. I am a future restaurant owner and I am always on the look-out for diner's like Valliants. I will go back again and again, that is until I move after college. I was greeted at the door by a smiling face, the service was outstanding, and the food was better. I had a triple stack of buttermilk pancakes and a breakfast sandwhich that was out of this world, but what was insane to see was the customers. There were business men, teenagers, families, couples, and people of all ages. The atmosphere was wonderful and if you haven't been there, then you have forgotten the american dream. Oh, did I mention everything was homemade.

My first review. Looking for pancakes?? These are the right temperature when they get to you, fluffy, golden, and a large stack of 3. Service is ok, and they need to start accepting credit. It's 2012. Parking sucks but it's not their fault. Small place with family atmosphere. Great example of classic amer food.

Great diner. I visited this diner for the first time this morning after passing it many many times. The food was good. Great prices. I was there for breakfast but noticed they had a different kind of home made soup everyday. I will definitely go back to try that. It is only open for breakfast and lunch. I think it closes at 2pm.

Love this neighborhood eatery! Good food, nice people and relaxing environment!

I hate to give a bad review, because they were so nice. But be warned: the food is the equivalent of a typical high school cafeteria. That said, it is a very nice atmosphere.

DELICIOUS!!!. Rated the BEST breakfast and burgers by the Trib!!! I would absolutely recommend this place-- it's a classic diner. I also enjoy the homemade specials (hot turkey off of the bone, ham bbq) and soups (vegetable barley, split pea, chicken noodle). It has been the best kept secret in the North Hills for over 40 years, and the original owner, now "retired", still helps out with the specials and preparing the hand-cut home fries. There are also seats at the counter that look over the grills, so you can watch your french toast or Western omelet being cooked!! Kids love it. Great prices too.

Great Breakfast. Although Valliant's is small (don't go there with more than 4 people) and parking is very limited, the food and atmosphere more than make up for it. The menu is classic diner food and the restaurant has that 50s feel to it with many pictures of classic autos.

Good breakfast.... I've eaten there a few times. The breakfast fare isn't bad. It's not as high as Ritter's or Tom's on my list... but it's pretty good. It's only open for breakfast & lunch hours... so that's odd. I wouldn't make a trip across a river to go eat there, but would stop if I were in the neighborhood.

With the Steelers on a bye week, there was no need for one of our "football game lunches" so we decided that we would go out for a late breakfast in the North Hills. Not being a native to Pittsburgh, I'm not sure I would have ever known that Valliant's Di
