Review Paddy Cake Bakery - Pittsburgh

Avantika Naik
If you're looking for custom cakes at a really great price, Paddy Cake Bakery is the place for you! The cute, punny store name hints at the fun atmosphere. The store is very pink and the scent of baked goods hits you right as you walk in. As you walk in, you have cookies to your left, cakes to your right, and the counter straight ahead. My two favorite parts of this place are the price and the service. For a half sheet of cake with custom decorations, it came out to around $55, which is way cheaper than other bakeries. They're also incredibly friendly over the phone, and can take your cake order 2 days before! I will say, the half sheet of cake is a little dense and dry so it goes well it frosting, but I'm pretty picky about the frosting so it wasn't my favorite. But if you like frosting more then you would love this cake, and I actually like dense cakes so I enjoyed that part. Overall, if i needed another cake for an event, I would definitely order it from here!

Best all around bakery in Pittsburgh. Great value for price! Ive been to A LOT of Pittsburgh's bakeries, and many more out of state to measure by - Paddy's is "top notch" or some might say "upper crust" (ha! Get it?!) I bought about 15 items, and consumed them across 2.5 days (still have 3 items to go!) They were all the best of their type that Ive tried in Pittsburgh.... nutroll, poppyseed nutroll, danish, carrot cake, birthday cake, icing filled choc chop cookie sandwich, smores cookie, jammie cookie, long john donut... im looking forward to the almond cupcake and pumpkin roll. The ladies in the shop were super helpful, knowledgable, and patient, while we traversed the whole dispay case.

I go to this bakery every month but used to go multiple times a week. The staff are extremely nice to me and the prices are very reasonable as all of the treats are decently fresh. Every month they support a charitable cause. They don’t get as much business as the Starbucks next door takes a lot of it. This is a very nice little bakery and I would highly recommend coming here. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five Stars!

Delicious. Small local place that’s been around as long as I can remember. Large variety of cookies. Donut selection is off the hook in the morning but the good ones go fast. They have these giant cinnamon rolls and pretzel glazed donuts that are amazing. Fresh baked breads. The blueberry loaf is really good. I had a small coconut creme pie that was amazing. Can’t skip out on the Cannolis either. My favorite place to get them from. Also paddy cake bakery has been my family’s go to for birthday cakes since I was little.

as a stereotypical millennial, i hate to have to call a place but for paddy cake it's worth it!! their website is hard to navigate, but i don't care. ordered ahead for a small gathering and was so pleasantly surprised. strawberry shortcake was GORGEOUS! wrapped in plastic around the sides and boxed carefully so that i could unveil it at the party. it was a jaw-dropper, an absolute centerpiece. layers of cake, custard, and cream with fresh-tasting strawberries on top. fragrant and beautiful. i've frequented paddy cake before and reliably enjoyed their cookies, donuts, and treats but had never ordered anything larger before. will be relying on their amazing cake and amazing service from here on out -- cannot recommend enough! a neighborhood gem.

Had the best experience today picking up a cake for a birthday. The staff was so kind, the other patrons were also so sweet, and the cake selection was excellent. And their cakes are always delicious, especially the almond cake! Thanks Paddy Cake! <3

I wish I would have realized they were there before going to Dunkin. I still stopped in and met the two sweetest ladies. I got some Lady Locks and a dozen cookies. Will definitely return!

A+ bakery! The selection was huge, it was so hard to pick. Everything was so beautiful and the prices were really good. Everything I brought home was super fresh and not too sugary and not processed tasting. Very homemade. Everyone was very nice and helpful.

I arrived and 3 ladies welcomed me!. I was so excited to finally get BIRTHDAY cake. My birthday was 8/5 & cakeless😔. Until I found Paddy Cakes...I got marble cake and Red Velvet cupcakes..just delicious moist and tasty😋. It reminded me of Keller's Bakery in Lafayette La.

The three woman working the day I had went there were all super friendly and nice. It was the day before Easter and we stopped in from being at the hospital. It was so nice to grab fresh air and fresh bake goodies. There was so much to choose and pick from. The decor on the baked goods were super cute and I was obsessed with my dipped chocolate peep. The pineapple upside down cake was good even a few days later. I can’t wait to come back. This place is amazing, ten stars, price is fair and so good too. My husband and I will definitely be back and tell family & friends about this place.

Came late and they still had my cinnamon rolls.

Nice bakery in the heart of Bloomfield. I enjoyed their brownies previously. Recently I tried the pettifors and small cake and they were very good. The service was very fast  friendly and efficient. They have a huge selection of breads and pastries including pepperoni bread. A large selection of cookies also. I plan on stopping back to try some other items when I am in the area.

It is my daughter's anniversary today and she decided she could come to see us with the kids. Immediately I knew that I would have to make a trip to Paddy Cake Bakery and pick up an anniversary cake. When my family was growing up I ordered Paddy Cake cakes for every occasion we celebrated. I like reasons to have cakes from Paddy Cake. The family loves them. I always pick them up myself and find the staff very friendly and professional. THANK YOU PADDY CAKE FOR BEING A GREAT BAKERY.

Tasty pastry but staff is a problem. Paddy Cake bakery has some wonderful products although their breads are not anything special. Whenever I am in Bloomfield I try to buy some of their pastries. But I am annoyed having to face their sales staff who always seem to be too busy talking among themselves or with friends rather than attend to the customers. I thought I was the only person annoyed but it seems it irritates others. And please tell the staff that smiling is free.

Karen Jan.26,2012. I ordered a special Birthday cake for my daughter. It was the day before the party. The girl who took my order was very nice. I wanted a special batter and she said that she would see what she could do.<br/>The next day when I picked up the cake it was just as I ordered it.<br/>At the restaurant the staff wanted to know where I got the cake from.<br/>It was delicious, decorated perfectly, and cut nicely.<br/>Bloomfield is very lucky to have Patty cake bakery.

Unfriendly & Stale. ...Ordered a simple birthday cake, spoke to two different people two days in a row, still no flowers on it when picked up today. The person at the register didn't care. One layer of cake was completely stale - inedible stale. Won't be back.<br/>Update: wrote Paddy Cake, never received a reply by phone or email. Heed all the negative reviews.

Awesome Doughnuts. Paddy Cake is one block from our house, so it nice and easy to pick up any baked goods. Their doughnuts are awesome, but they run out of flavors so early in the morning! You would think this would mean they would make more of certain kinds, but they don't. I have gotten a few things from there that are stale, which is really annoying. Needless to say once we move out of Bloomfield they most likely will not be getting our business anymore. And THEIR STAFF IS SO RUDE! They have been so rude to the point where I don't even want to go there sometimes. But they do have the best Boston Cream Doughnuts, if there are any left by the time you get there!

Bad Experience. Staff was friendly. I ordered some cupcakes and a pastry. Strawberry pastry was horrible. It was for sure a month old pastry. Why don't they just discard old stuff if its not sold over a week. Everything has a shelf life. cupcakes were ok. Will not visit again.

Ridiculous. AVOID. I've had friends, family, and clients all utilize Paddy Cake based on their years old reputation and their location- and all of them have had terrible experiences. We ordered cookies, they made the wrong ones and gave us attitude despite the order clearly stating the correct type of cookies. clients have had birthday cakes ordered, only to have the cake made a week early, then they PUT THE CAKE IN THE COOLER FOR A WEEK AND THEN SOLD IT TO THEM. When the sugar images on the cake are blurred and cracked, you know its been in the cooler FAR too long. $60 for a half sheet cake and you pull crap like this? And then try to blame it on the buyer, saying they 'cracked the cake'. I'll never buy a single thing from Paddy Cake again.<br/><br/>Terrible attitudes, terrible products, terrible ethics.

Sideways. If you're going to charge an extra $12 to add a picture to a cake you could make it, I don't know, *not* crooked? oh well - another one for cake wrecks.

What the...?. Paddy Cake is terribly managed, for starters. The employees are some of the rudest people I've encountered. There are no tags or signs on ANYthing in ANY of the cases, and the interior is messy and dirty. The donuts are delicious, but you better be there before 6:30am to get any, because they're VERY limited in what they make. The same with cookies. I went into the bakery at 7AM on the Friday before Easter and they didn't even have a dozen thumbprints! I actually had to look for something to buy...at a bakery! <br/>I used to love Paddy Cake cakes, but they have become RIDICULOUSLY expensive. That, combined with the messy writing on them and the lack of freshness the past two visits has me sworn to never go back. All of this combined with their terrible hours (closed on Sunday, only open until 5 on weekdays) has me wondering how they stay in business.

Their strawberry cake is my favorite sweet treat on earth. Tasty fresh bread, too! Perfect old school neighborhood bakery.

Best Birthday Cake Ever!!. I ordered a birthday cake with roses. They delivered it to shop n save in Glenshaw which was great cause I live in Gibsonia. This cake was SO beautiful and delicious. Everyone was commenting how pretty and good it was. This was the second time I ordered cakes from them and they are now my new bakery shop! It is worth it to go there! Thank you Paddy cake!!!!!

Do NOT go here for your wedding cake. Before we even showed up for our disappointing cake tasting, it was nearly impossible to get an appointment. Three times I got put on hold over the phone, then forgotten about. They're not open on Sundays or evenings, making it impossible for a working couple to make an appointment, plus their "wedding coordinator" isn't available every day.<br/><br/>When we arrived, we had 2 little pieces of white cake given to us: one plain white, one white with a raspberry filling. That's it. That was our cake tasting. $235 for a 3-tier white wedding cake? Paddy Cake can't even do any type of decorations that aren't frosting-based - no sugared or gelled flowers (they'd have to order those), no edible golds or glitters, nothing. They won't even put fresh flowers on it themselves - they "let the florist do that."<br/><br/>I was amazed that the "wedding coordinator" was completely unprepared. We asked her, what if we wanted a spice cake instead? Or a carrot cake? Or a chocolate cake? Could we taste any samples of those? No, because she hadn't made any of those for us to try. The coordinator was disinterested in helping us think outside of the box. She seemed frazzled and "bothered" that we were even there. When I suggested we might like a pumpkin pie in addition to our cake, she looked at me like I'd grown a third eye.<br/><br/>The kicker was, I had a gift certificate for a free 2-tier cake. The "wedding coordinator" actually said at some point in the conversation that my fiancee and I were "obviously going to go with Paddy Cake Bakery since we had a gift certificate," but to come back in August so she could make a spice cake for us to try.<br/><br/>What?!<br/><br/>If you want a plain white wedding cake that tastes no better or no worse than any other white cake, why waste $235 - $350 here? You're better off going to Market District.<br/><br/>This place is a joke.

Ihave only received one cake from this bakery before and had bad service and never went back. On this occasion, I was buying a cake for a work friend who requested this bakery, so I went back, and again had bad service. I ordered the cake on a Friday by phone for specific time pick up of 6AM on Tues that following week. I made sure the girl wrote 6AM on the order. When I arrived on Tues at about 6:10am, the cake was not ready. The girl apologized but said that they have a lot of orders mixed up today as well. I'm confused. Is this supposed to be a professional bakery? I had to wait 20 minutes for whatever it was they had to do (I'm assuming decorating it, since the icing flowers looked like they were thrown together quickly), but most importantly, I got to work LATER than the gal that I bought the cake for, and then the whole day was off. The cake itself tasted fine, but for all the hassle, there are a number of other bakeries that treat customers better and their cakes also taste great. I will not be back for a 3rd time.

Great taste from Paddy Cakes. I just moved from Ohio last month and decided to try Paddy cakes out. Their Apple Fritters, Eclairs and sheet cakes are just incredible. While slightly pricey, they are addictive and out of this world.<br/><br/>Reading other reviews, I do agree that some (1 or 2) of the staff could be much friendlier and personable, a couple are really nice but the regulars aren't. It seems sad that such a great product can be underrated because of poor staff, <br/><br/>I recommend Paddy cakes to anyone who loves GREAT taste!!

Rude Service = Great Donuts!. Why is it in Pittsburgh that some of the best bakeries have the most ornery people behind the counter? Case in point, Paddy Cake. The donuts, cakes, and other morsels are great... and they would have to be because I wouldn't stand for such sour behavior from the staff if they weren't.

A Bloomfield Classic. My family would be lost without Paddy Cake. I was born and raised in Bloomfield and Paddy Cake has always been the go-to bakery. We always get our cakes there, as well as cookies and doughnuts. Their doughnuts are delicious. I lived on Friendship Avenue--which is a block away from Paddy Cake--and would walk there (way too often) to get a doughnut in the morning. Paddy Cake is a fantastic place to grab a snack or get a cake for a special occasion. The staff can be a little irritable sometimes, but what I've heard from the Bloomfield locals is the owner is a bit of a jerk. Despite the occasional sour attitudes, I recommend Paddy Cake. It's reasonably priced and has something for everyone.

We went to Paddy Cake Bakery on St. Patrick's day an bought "frogs" for my kids. The kids said they were the best cupcakes they ever had. We also bought a dozen sugar cookies and they were excellent as well! I will be going back!

Great cookies!. I've heard great things about the cakes, but i've never had one. what i have had (in spades), and enjoyed, are the cookies. they are cheaper than buying a dozen from giant eagle, much better tasting, and much fresher. if you want doughnuts, be sure to go in the morning, they sell out fast!

I was excited to splurge on a pumpkin roll. When I tried to cut it I thought something was wrong with my knife. The outer layer was so stale, it was inedible. Perhaps that's why the one in the case I didn't choose was slathered with icing on the outer layer. Perhaps that's the treatment after a second week in the case. I won't bother returning or complaining based on the other reviews. When I was there the staff seemed more concerned about coordinating their smoke breaks than paying attention to the three potential customers waiting.

Great Cakes!. Moved from Bloomfield to the S. Hills, but we always travel to Paddy Cake for every special occasion! The cakes are wonderful, Bethel Bakery is closer to us, but Paddy Cake wins the cake wars!
