It is hard to find a Chinese restaurant that offers variety with quality in Pittsburgh. The Hunan Bar offers an extensive menu, and every single dish I tried so far has not disappointed. I love their Hot Pots and the Crispy Pork Intestines. The service is very good, but the place gets busy at lunch time, so arrive early and get ready for a feast!

I was a little worried when I saw the recent reviews, but I thought it was great! I had never had Hot Pot before, but Reddit recommended Hunan Bar, and I loved it. Some in our group also got normal dishes and liked them (brisket and radish dish in particular). As for the hot pot, I enjoyed both the mild and spicy broths, and the selection of foods to cook was delicious. Highly recommend!

EXCELLENT AUTHENTIC HUNAN CUISINE & Pittsburgh’s TOP CHINESE HOT POT. It’s true gustatory dining, 🙃🙃🙃 very popular to the local ethnic Chinese, Japanese and Korean emigres especially among students of the local universities. It’s very busy during the weekends. The 9-page booklet menu with large scripts is very navigable 👍, a contrast to the dizzying lists so common among the uniformly dismal Chinese-style eateries of America. It’s a home for the Traditional Chinese HotPot👏👏👏, from single (large 50-oz) bowl for the single dinner to the buffet style souping dinner for a group. The classic bone broth (Mala Tang) is a rich, yet light soup is absolutely delightful 🤩🤩🤩 Any of the single bowls are outstanding!!! Then there’s the Hunan entrees, distinguished by their thick yet silken sauces. Pairing a meat entree with a Hunan vegetable is truly extraordinary😎😎😎 Service is very good, the staff are helpful in deciding which ones to try. This is a restaurant worth several visits. Prices are very reasonable.

Perfect in every way! I lived in China for five years and struggle to find real authentic Chinese dining in the U.S., but place is the real deal. Delicious, fresh ingredients seasoned just right. Lovely family owns the restaurant and provides warm and attentive service. We will be back!! FYI if you’re looking for Americanized food or atmosphere you might want to try somewhere, but if you have an open mind and really want to feel like you’re eating in China come here, you will not regret it.

Large servings and authentic Hunan flavor. We asked for minimal oil and no MSG in all dishes, possible since my grandparents speak mandarin. Ordered way too much for four people but now we have yummy leftovers. (1) bok choy with mushrooms (A+ sauce), (2) pork stomach with vegetables (a wildcard we were all pleasantly surprised by), (3) winter melon spare rib soup (almost creamy bone broth), (4) sliced fish Hunan style (didn’t realize this was fried but still good, not particularly greasy; generous chili and peppercorn !!), (5) water spinach (came in like a creamy mushroom sauce, good for quenching the spice flames), (6) scallion pancake (we didn’t even touch this we were so full. Later tried a piece and it’s light and flaky, not too greasy). Affordable prices with college crowd. Fish and seasonal water spinach were pricier, most dishes $5-9.50, specialities around $13-16. Didn’t try the hotpot but it seemed very popular. My grandparents were huge fans of the flavor and quality. They also had interesting looking rabbit and frog dishes. Another time!

This place is amazing!!!!!! Tonight, we tried their hotpot, which was fabulous! A little pricey, but to celebrate an occasion or a nice date night, trust me this is sooo worst it! We tried the half white and half spicy broths. The broths were already complex and perfectly seasoned. The selection of the vegetables was very fresh and high quality! The meats were lovely as well. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, and happy to help, seeing as it was our first time trying hot pot. In the end, we overstuffed ourselves, not wanting to waste any of the godly ambrosia at our fingertips. Looking around at other patrons getting their meals, everything looked wonderful! We heard a lot of yummy noises, plus saw a lot of happy faces. The place was packed! It's no wonder why!

Amazing food. I had the pork belly lunch special and is was great! The place from the outside looks a little sketchy, but trust me, you want to go in, very clean and a great staff. The food came out super quick and was hot (temperature). They will make the food spicier if you want, mine was not spicy at all, but I like it that way. I definitely recommend if you want good sechezwan food!

Small, friendly, and most importantly delicious. I loved my Braised Tofu. My partner found her Hot Pot very spicy, so be careful if you don't love spice. Will be coming back

Did not try the hot pot and instead ordered dishes. Some of the dishes were very yummy while others were not as good. Great for large gatherings- there are some big tables in the back.

Great atmosphere, real Chinese cuisine the hot pot and spices were up to par with any dish I had China. There was a small language barrier but the simple point at the menu worked well enough. They have hot pot in buffet style they bring a giant tray to your table. Great prices and you can reorder also would recommend for first time and Everytime hot hot enthusiast.
