Doesn't get much better than this. great authentic food at a price you can't beat. Large portions.
Recent improvement(s). Sree's has replaced their white rice and white bread with brown rice and whole wheat bread. Downtown's best vegan lunch deal just got that much healthier.
Great Value. Great food, fantastic value for your money. Only negative is that instead of Naan the give you stale pita bread.
Other than that, it's amazing food.
Great Indian Food for a Great Price. One of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch in all of downtown Pittsburgh. it's defiantely a book that would be a tragedy to judge by it's cover. The inside is chincy, no doubt it, but I don't go there for the ambiance. I go there for the food and it's a winner everytime in that regard. The menu is simple yet delicious. if you love curry, you will love this place. The chicken is not super impressive but it's all white chicken thigh meat, and tasty, especially when you add their spicy sauce found on the tables.
The food is vegan which is a plus. It feels good to know you can get a great meal at a great place that is healthy all in all. A meal here is a win, win all the way around. Plus it's a great value. Chicken over rice and a veggy for $5. If you want all veggies you get to pick 3 over rice for the same cost...awesome. Try one of the Samosa's if they are available when you are there. They are also very good.
Good cheap food. The food is great! The only thing that would make this place better would be fresh naan. I would be happy to pay extra for that.
Love it!. Inexpensive, delicious vegan food in Downtown Pittsburgh? Pinch me, I'm dreaming! Sree's is simply wonderful! If I still worked downtown, I think I would eat lunch here every day. Well worth checking out. Mr. and Mrs. Sree are very kind people.
Great Lunch Spot!!!. The food is consistently good. Very flavorful an well priced. For between $5 - $8 you get a healthy meal with chicken rice and chic peas (or whatever they have that day).
The decor leaves a bit to be desired (folding cafeteria style tables/chairs) but if you're taking the food to go... You really can't beat it.
Awesome. Sree's is a downtown classic.
When you walk in to Sree's, you are olfactory-slapped in the face. Nothing but curry. You then walk up to a small ordering station where you can select from a vegan/chicken meal and sides.
By the time you're done, you've spent $5/6 dollars and you have a ton of food. A ton.
I heavily recommend loading up on their special hot sauce-- it is delicious.
Good stuff.
I try to hit this up whenever I'm doing a weekday downtown walkabout. If I worked downtown I would be a much more frequent guest! It's very affordable, very portable and great flavors for anyone who loves Indian food. Usually I takeout and eat in on the bench by the river about a block away. When I've had company with me, we've eaten in but really this atmosphere is pretty sterile-- this is mainly a takeout place. If you're driving, the parking is pretty nonexistent most of the time but there are places you can pull over for a minute and service is fast if you feel lucky and don't have someone to stay with the car. Really the only downside is that-- as of this writing anyway-- Sree's is only open for weekday lunch.

Lovely Southern Indian lunch and lovely service at a very comfy atmosphere and very reasonable price.
Sree's isn't fashionable, trendy, high-concept, or open for dinner. But what it IS is delicious and comforting. You get fragrant, flavorful, unpretentious home cooking served up in hefty portions, and it's an excellent value too.
I had vegetable biryani with masala potatoes and yogurt salad, and it was exactly what I needed on a chilly fall day. I'm genuinely sad I'm not in town longer to dine here more.
Recommended without hesitation or reservation!
Food was good, could have a bigger portion though. Price is average. Not a toddler/kid friendly kind just in our experience. Seating is limited plus street parking
Really good food, feels like a home cooked meal :) I’m not from Pittsburgh so I can say this without affecting myself but I honestly feel like they should charge maybe 10-20% more. It would still be good value and they seem to be working hard so think they deserve it.
Amazing food. Awesome decor and inspiring owner, Vaidehi. Food was good: not too much of oil, healthy vegetables cooked home style. No colors, msg or anything else. Decor: Indian decor with amazing portraits. What is super inspiring is that Vaidehi cooks the food herself. She told me how she and her husband, Sree, started the business and she touched and cooked food for her customers for decades. Amazing, inspiring and extraordinary. I would strongly recommend. May her well lived life and good food inspire many people.
Great vegan options and really friendly service!
Very good Indian food. I got the chicken, vegetable, rice, and bread lunch special. The chicken hyderabadi was just falling apart and spiced perfectly. The chickpeas and potatoes were so flavorful, and the rice tied it all together.
I went to Sree’s Foods for lunch with a coworker and would gladly return again for any occasion. This place is an “Indian food gem” tucked away in downtown Pittsburgh. The food was very tasty, the price was an excellent value, and the service was warm and friendly!
Oh man, this is some great food here. My wife and I have eaten here on and off for more than a decade and it never disappoints.
