Review Carnegie Cafe - Pittsburgh

i’ve eaten here 3x over the last year and now making it a point to visit more often. my recent brunch was fantastic. the servers have always been great and the options are unique while still including standard dishes. their outdoor seating is now open, near the outdoor water/fountain. most/all of that time you won’t be in direct sunlight. i love visiting museum and adding the cafe for a snack or meal. 🤗

This is such a hidden gem in Oakland. I loved everything about this café. My only feedback was the lavender latter had a bit of a syrupy taste.

Had a very nice lunch at the museum café. The service was impeccable and the "Parisian Gnocchi" had an amazing combination of flavor and texture. Be warned, it is a bit on the heavy side, but every bite is worth the extra steps/stairs whatever you need to do to atone for it.

Great taste, the trout was a small portion thou.

The Cafe Carnegie is a unique, small dining experience for visitors of the Carnegie History and/or Art Museum. A few notches above the typical "cafes" located inside these types of establishments. The food is provided by The Speckled Egg. I tried the turkey club and it was fresh and flavorful. Coffee was good too. The cafe has a cramped, limited self-seating area. The tables were dirty and I didn't like that. The cafe also has a "full service" area that staff needs to seat you in -this includes the outdoor seating as well. This full service area is a bit of a flex. Seems to me like the museum wants to have the illusion of offering a fine dining experience to patrons where you sip on wines and cocktails before elegantly strolling the halls of exhibitions. The museum's Great Gatsby ambitions are well intentioned but in reality it doesn't really pan out. If you're at the museum and need a quick bite this works though. It's good enough.

2023 Update: Cafe was packed at lunch on a Friday, we needed to make a reservation! We did and they seated us later that day. Food was delicious. Service was attentive and professional. I would be able to take my kids here, but also meet adults for a nice lunch and drinks. The club sandwich was solid. The Bahn Mi was open faced, which was a surprise. Updated decor and menu experience. All very pleasant and cushy. I plan to return, and you should, too! 2015 Review: Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I really enjoy the menu at the museum cafe. They do a great job! The decor of the space is a bit dated but the food is great - better than the expected freezer-to-deep-fyer stuff I see in add-on eateries (food places secondarily attached to a main event). I do wish they offered a full menu during their weekly evening hours. If they did, I would be much more inclined to bring my family to the museum for dinner and enjoy a nice evening afterwards roaming the galleries. The nearby Phipps Conservatory does this.

My children and I came here for the first time after a weekly visit to the museum. The ambiance and the service were great. I was expecting a bit more from the menu options, but for a cafe, I think it was average. I agree with a few reviews that the portion could be bigger compared to what’s paid.

Poached salmon salad was amazing 👏. Impressive beverages; Italian soda with cranberry & raspberry, iced tea with ginger. Great staff/atmosphere 👍 well done

Really good. I got a Croque Madame and it was delicious!!! Literally the perfect size. I wasn’t stuffed after, but wasn’t hungry. The sandwich was 🔥. Perfect dippy egg on top of a nice French ham and cheese sandwich with fresh asparagus. Believe it or not, this was the first time in a decade that I had asparagus because I always thought it tasted bad. I took a leap of faith here and it worked perfectly balancing out the fatty richness of the cheese and ham. The yolk just ran down the side and covered the bottom of the sandwich. Seriously good. Also, the fries were delicately fried to perfection and came without salt, which I liked. Good service! I sat outside so the view and slight breeze was nice. Just a good place to get a nice meal.

I had a great time while I was there. The atmosphere was very laid back and family friendly. There was a live performance outside. The staff were friendly And on point. I'd definitely go back again.

Great place to visit! Conveniently located in the museums and has a great modern atmosphere. Coffee was very good, and is reasonably priced. Staff were very kind as well. Would definitely reccomend stopping by when visiting the museums, or even just when walking by!

This open dining area is near the entrance and gift shop of the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History. They have a nice selection of salads, soups and entrees that will please most everyone. Like most museum restaurants, the prices are higher than your local fast food places but the service was excellent and the portions were more than adequate. Paid admission to the museum isn't necessary if you want to eat at the Cafe.
