Review Insurrection Ale Works - Pittsburgh

Visited this brewery today. Loved the atmosphere and the beer. We ordered food and I had the vegan eggplant sandwich and my brother had the tofu sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. I appreciated the vegan options on the menu. I will definitely be back. Service was exceptional. Kyle was very helpful when I had questions about the beer

The wings here are worth it! They also have the “good ranch” which brings us coming back. Food portions are good. The enclosed patio was perfect for a 70 degree day. The negative is they only had 4 beers on tap which isn’t enough options or variety for a brewery, in my opinion. We ended up getting the Maggie’s Farm Seltzers (canned) which were awesome. We’ve been back 3 times in a few weeks, consistent food and reliable service.

Very good wings, beers, and great service. What more is to ask? One of the better breweries in Pittsburgh.

Was in Pittsburgh and needed to find some place to eat. Was looking at nearby restaurants on Apple Maps and due to their menu and the 4.5 star review they had my friend and I checked them out. The beer selection was great and very tasteful. We ordered steak tacos, grilled cheese w/tomato soup, and wings with their house buffalo sauce. It was all so so good, and Liz, one of the bartenders, was knowledgeable, gave great suggestions and was super nice! Definitely will go back if I’m ever in the Pittsburgh area again!

Lively casual atmosphere. Limited food menu but very good food. Recommend the Christi double burger and Runaway Golf Cart beer. Very friendly attentive and knowledgeable servers. I'll go back and try charcuterie.

Great micro brewery. Knowledge staff, great beer, awesome food. Get the smoked pork tachos if they’re on the menu

Fantastic! Love the meat and cheese boards! They have a large variety of meats and cheese to choose from they have a variety of prices so it could end up being expensive but it makes for very enjoyable dining experience. In the summer you can sit in the outside patio area and enjoy a beer and the nice breeze. Highly recommend... even if it's out of your way. And it makes for an excellent date get a flight of beers and a variety of meats and cheese to nibble. The sandwiches here are also freaking amazing. You should go here! The beer is quite good as well. Seriously go enjoy who cares if it's out of your way you'll be happy you went!

Great beers and good menu. We really enjoyed the meat and cheese selections on the charcuterie menu. I would give it five stars if there was comfortable seating. The bar stools were quite uncomfortable with no backs and they could also use some more padding. The man next to me commented on the lack of padding on the seat and then I realized, after sitting there for a bit, that I was also feeling it.

Excellent charcuterie! The smoked mustard Gouda was delightful. The beers were really nice, great assortment of pale ales. We took a growler home with us.

In town on business and used Yelp to find a local brewery. The reviews were spot on. We had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. The Aleworks wings were to die for and the wood fired pizza waa the best we've ever had. The beer was phenomenal. The staff was attentive and friendly. It's places like this that we appreciate being able to try. Don't miss this brewery of you're in the area.

Insurrection is quickly becoming a regular spot for us. Not only is the beer good but the food is on point. We always have friendly and attentive staff. Even when they are busy - they are helpful and provide recommendations. We are excited for the new brewery area!

Asked Pittsburgh Craft Beer closed group to recommend a brew/pub with better than average food (that wasn't Hop Farm, Church Brew, or HOTB). Insurrection topped the list--& was totally worth crossing town for! First ever tart-salty Goze; Biere de Miel with Bedillion honey & Brett; CHEESE #5 (Norwegian caramelized Gjetost--with toast & mustard); Mac 'n lobster best ever; Arsenal Ginger cider for dessert. Got there for Saturday noon opening; was filling up by 1:15. Beer list is not huge. Food is several orders of magnitude better and more varied than most brewpubs: 14 cheeses, at least as many meats, 5 sandwiches, several salads and pizzas. Pairs nicely with a visit to Apis Meadery about a mile away.

Just got back from a wonderful meal and of course some brews... Been there a few times now but tonight loaded up the food plank with all kinds of good stuff and brews... GOOD STUFF. And of course the service was excellent. Chris Tens handled the brews and food for us and the drinks never went dry and the food kept coming. Didn't have to hunt for our server, she paid attention to our table...didn't have to wait for refills. Thanks Chris, we will certainly ask for you next time. Insurrection has become a new fav or ours. Great place, great food and really great brews... AND excellent service!!!!! Steve

Got rid of the half pours which were annoying. So, a positive there! Cheese and meat boards are amazing although pricing is a bit high. Not enough beers on tap, only four. 2 darks, 1 hoppy. So, only one left that was ok. Maggie's rum and ginger drink...amazing! Maggies saved the night!

I was blown away by all the beer and Alehouse wings . The staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back, and I might even get a growler to bring the goodness home.

Great spot! I wish there were more beer options but what I had was pretty good. Food is a little pricey, but that seems typical of a craft brewery. Overall enjoyed the experience!

The food was great, those with me enjoyed the beer, they had cider for me, and the service was really good. The air conditioning was dripping water here and there over the table and us, but there was nothing that could be done about that.

The menu isn't very big, but everything on it looks great. There's street parking right outside that's actually FREE, which is amazing. I'd definitely go back!

Love Insurrection! The atmosphere is nice, small low key brewery. They have the best cheese and charcuterie I've found, the selection changes frequently. This is probably our favorite brewery that we've found near the south hills. The staff are really friendly most of the time, about 8 or so beers on tap. They usually have an arsenal cider to offer. We have enjoyed many Pens games here.

Came in on a Saturday night with my husband and had a great time! The small space was already packed by 645pm and we waited for a seat at the bar. The beer is great and very reasonably priced. You can get a half pour (8 oz) for $3. You can also ask to taste the beer. The beers are naturally carbonated so there is a little bit of sediment but I only noticed it because i was looking for it, and it won't hurt you. The flavor in the beer is amazing. You can tell how fresh it is. The food is also very good. We picked from the large chaiteutrie selection and had the po boy and muffuletta. Everyone seemed to be ordering the wings and I will try them next time as they look Amazing.

Stopped in for lunch this past Saturday (Yes, they are open for lunch on weekends starting at Noon). I started off with a Восстание (Vosstanye) Russian Imperial Stout, and for lunch I had the "Kolbassi" sandwich. The beer was very good (for me the darker the better). I also enjoyed the sandwich, which is made using local Parma meat from the strip, and also had sauerkraut and Swiss cheese. The side of pickles was very good also, and the house-made potato chips to me were just o.k. I look forward to coming back and trying some of the other beers, and sampling more of the food offerings.

Came back again on Sunday, 2/7/16, and tried a taster of the Aufstand Weisse w/Mango (pretty darn good), and with my lunch had the Восстание stout again, along with an appetizer of ground pork meatballs stuffed with provolone cheese covered with a Восстание sauce. The meatballs were excellent, and I mopped up all the sauce with the four included pieces of fresh bread. Also had a side salad of field greens w/Balsamic dressing.
