Review Redbeard's - Pittsburgh

Fun, lively place to eat on Shiloh Street. We were able to dine outside. The Feeling Springy drink was great! My fish sandwich was too. My sons enjoyed a great burger and the other wings. Live music and nice atmosphere and servers!

There is no vibe The bartender does not know how to or did not want to banter. Asking him about the grilled cheese seemed to short circuit. "It's big. It's good". Thanks, dude. The inside out grilled cheese is surprisingly good, but better without tomato. The fries were good, beautifully seasoned The boba in the lemonade wasn't tapioca, it was popping. The straw was too thin to suck them up and stabbing just meant they burst. The long island was gross. Skip if you're not starving.

We had the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato and bacon and the outside crust was all crispy. Really good. Also had hot buffalo wings and ask them not to overcook them in 99% of them work I think I had one smaller one that was a little dryer but that's okay they were still pretty good. We'll have to come back and try something else

Went for dinner. Had the fish sandwich and fries. The fish is huge! I had to cut off half the fish which was hanging out of the bun. This fish sandwich deserves a hoagie bun it is that big. It did not sit under a warming light either. It was so hot I burned my mouth. The fries were freshly cut and seasoned just right. The service was good. I waited less than 2 minutes before the waiter came and took my order. Once again a good experience.

This bar and grille's food was good. They have a few different flavors of wing sauce and dry rub. The wings were well cooked without over cooking. The salads were fresh and crisp. The truffle fries were delicious.

Took the family here and had a great meal. Burgers, wraps, nachos. All very good.

My husband and I had a long day and didn't eat breakfast and lunch, so we stopped by Mt Washington looking for a good place to eat. This restaurant was right next to where we parked and we decided to try them out. We were extremely impressed, 5 stars! I love hot wings so I ordered their honey habernero hot wings and it was perfectly seasoned and crazy hot! It was definitely better wings than Buffalo Wild Wings (I didn't give them a 5 star like I did for this restaurant). I ordered a fish sandwich and it was so large it was larger than the plate it came in. The fish was perfeclty fried and the sauce added much flavor to it. My husband ordered a gyro and fries, it was a small gyro but very flavorful. We didn't expect a restaurant like this to offer such great food. We will definitely come back! We came back and brought friends. We got Jamaican jerk chicken, Redbeard's signature chicken, Nashville chicken, quesadillas, and pierogies. They were all delicious! Even the non-alcoholic drinks were great!

It's a lovely place to chill, good food and great service. We had a fantastic afternoon with beer and nachos, veggie of the day which was roasted zucchini and squash and really yum. The nachos were lovely, and big portions.

Mt Washington location - We visited for first time Thursday night before the Steeler football game. This needs to be on the top ten of anyone's list when visiting Pittsburgh. I would put it in the top 3 places to stop in Pittsburgh for my friends and family. Great food!! Reuben and Burger was top notch!! Beautiful classic building that is immaculate clean. Awesome Staff. Best Drinks. Ride the Incline, Catch the view, Stroll a block, Have some great food, conversation, and drinks. Life is good!!

Get the inside out grilled cheese - trust me on this. I ordered the stuffed banana peppers which were out of this world, and still almost stole my own child's grilled cheese!! That good!

Great atmosphere and EXCELLENT customer service. I'm from out of town and stopped in here to watch my home team. they were nice enough to put the game on and hold the tv for me when other customer wanted a different game. the food was also excellent.i had the parmesan garlic/ buffalo.

Best grilled cheese sandwich I've had. It's called Inside Out Grilled Cheese. Came with deep fried pickles, fries, and cole slaw. Really enjoyed.

This unfortunately a locals bar, and not every bartender treats people with respect.<br/><br/>I came in, ordered my food right away, and just kept to myself. The bartender provided horrible service. Didn't come back for 5 minutes after I didn't know what I wanted to drink. Then when it came to getting a doggy bag, it was crazy. "Do you want containers for everything?" Then she says "let me go get you a bag." Never comes back with a bag. "Oh I thought you didn't want one, usually people are fine without it."<br/><br/>She comeback and says, "Have a BETTER day!" When I confronted her, "well you been rude to me the entire time." I'm the customer, I don't need to be friendly, I can sit say as little as I want. Not that I was rude, I was just keeping to myself.<br/><br/>I spoke to the manager and she brushed it off like it wasn't a big deal. "She never has done anything like this before." So what she gets a free pass and I must be wrong? "I don't think she meant anything by it." She literally justified her actions to me.<br/><br/>Seriously, worst service of my life, and I eat out a lot. You don't know me, don't comment on how I'm feeling. So judgemental, dismissive just plan bad customer service.<br/><br/>If you're debating on where to go, go to Shiloh Bar or Summit. I've lived here for 3 years, and those bars are lovely. Nikos if you don't mind smoking. The only reason I ever go to Redbeard's if I was in the mood for a quesadilla, but I think that will change.

The service was great, the place is great. Very clean with a nice atmosphere. They have a pittsburgh sport theme, (cool). The cod I had was really good, the steak fries & Coleslaw was good as well. I'll definitely be back again.@

Their food is actually semi decent...BUT - Their service and attitude SUCKS! Plain and Simple - I've lived on the Mount for 14 years and have given Redbeards a few trys...I don't go back for the simple fact that they are rude, and unless you know a bartender when there is a small crowd, good luck getting a drink. I take my business to Bingham.

Sorry I'm not into guys. The bartender was into me but I'm straight. Sorry dude, you didn't have to cut us off because we didn't want your "HJ" special.

NFL Sunday Ticket, What's the Use?. I went here to try to watch an out-of-town team's football game because Redbeards advertises lots of televisions and NFL Sunday Ticket. After much convincing (even though there were no Pittsburgh sports even on at the time), a waitress finally let us put the game on an obstructed view tv off in the corner. Service was slow, drinks were weak. At halftime, a Penguins game was coming on so another waitress changed the tv, which I understand. What I did not understand was why she only put it on this one tv that I said I was watching the football game on...the hockey game was not on ANY OTHER TVS! I felt like I was being singled out here. This was a very important game that determined whether my team made the playoffs and it was not on local tv stations. I asked her to change it back and she said the owner would not approve. She said he'd pick the Pens over this game anyday. Clearly. This Pens game was not put on even ONE other television. I told her if she couldn't put this football game on one tv for me to please get my tab because I did not wish to stay and order any more drinks or food. She was shocked that I would leave over this game. She told me I was being rude. I told her she wasn't being helpful at all and that I just wanted to pay and leave. After we got the check and left a good tip anyway, no thank you or apologies from her. I promised her I would NEVER come back. It's just a football game, jeez, come on lady. On the plus side, I went to Archies in the Southside for the first time after this ordeal and my experience there was great. They have tvs and NFL Sunday Ticket...minus the awful staff.

Avoid "pink or no pink" steak options. Redbeard's is a bar first and foremost, but the food on the menu is a step up in many ways. Sandwiches and plates make for a great lunch, casual dinner, or as a base for a long night. The outdoor patio, with views of Shiloh Street is nice even in the winter, as the heaters make the tent quite cozy. Avoid the entrees, as they are uninspired and oddly built... take the strip steak sitting on a bed of garlic bread. Perhaps after a few beers, the dish will come alive.

Unfriendly and rude. I've lived on Mt Washington for 15 years...on a recent trip to Redbeards for dinner ... I was told by the bartender ( I think his name was Dennis) that I had to pay for my food before I got it....my response I'm sorry I didn't know I was at McRedbeards... he didn't think it was funny... I thought his poor attitude and service were... the food was palatable... it's been cleaned up and updated... the service needs ALOT of updating.... not a fan and not going back...

Would like to enjoy all you can eat crab Mondays, but it's somewhat difficult with the miserable and slow service. 30 minutes for a beer, and it's blamed on the bar. Maybe the servers should appreciate their $27 minimum dinner ticket per person, rather than treat it like a chore.
Jersey Johnny
Friendly if..... As stated by a few here ,we too experienced a cool reception and not the locals service level...we were spoiled by the warm reception in the Downtown Sixth Street location...Too bad. Left and went down the street to Packs and Dogs much friendler vibe and dogs were bangin'

Checked out this place cause it was close to work. Hope its not the norm, but the service was horrible.<br/><br/>After 30 mins of putting my order in for fries, I inquired about the time and was blasted by the bartender bridget (?) Telling me food comes out as it is put in and I needed to wait.<br/><br/>Then she refused to acknowledge me afterwards and delivered my food when it came in a very rude manner.<br/><br/>Maybe try to come back, but not a great impression

Waffle fries & wilted lettuce. Ive been ordering there for years, but I got take out today and was not pleased at all. I was not told that the waffle fries were made from sweet potatoes(which I never wouldve ordered in the first place) and on top of that they cost me an extra $2. Also, i think they have recently raised their prices because a sandwich & fries never cost $11 before. The sandwich was sub par with wilted lettuce and those waffle fries werent even edible. I'm sorry to say, I think they lost my business today because of the over priced sub par food. $11 is wayyyyy too much for some crappy bar food. I couldve walked 2 doors down to Subway and got 2 footlongs for the same price and been a whole lot happier with my purchase. This place should stick to being a bar because their food game has gone way downhill.

Poor service. The staff doesn't seem to care, in fact, they actively avoid customers when there's a problem. Food not good enough to justify the lack of service.

Service Lacking. I've been to Redbeard's a few times since moving to Mt. Washington. This is a place that I keep trying in hopes it will get better. It's the kind of place you'd want to like but just can't quite get there. The food is good. The wings with the signature sauce are the bomb. But the service is just downright terrible. The bartenders are friendly with the regulars but make it clear that you are just not that important to them. Seems very clickish. I grew up in the restaurant business and I know a little bit about customer service and making people feel comfortable. If that's what you're looking for this is not that kind of place.

Cozy Patio. Loved the cozy outdoor patio! I had the special which was chicken marsala and it was very good. Server was prompt and attentive, the atmosphere was very friendly in here. I am new to Mount Washington but I will make this a frequent stop.

I went there for my first time today for the Steelers game to have a couple drinks with my friend. First off, the place looks great! They have awesome drinks and food specials. Our server, Michelle, was on point. My drinks were always replaced before I ran out. We forgot to ask for our checks to be split, but she was able to take care of that for us with no problem. We were using a laptop to watch other football games, but the power outlet was not working. Rick, the assistant manager, was prompt to fix the issue. Overall, we had a great experience, and will be going back a lot more frequently. Thanks for the awesome service Michelle and Rick!

We went Wednesday afternoon, credit card charge on Thursday, and again on Saturday. One visit 2 charges. Watch you credit balances. Did not trust service.

Getting better. We haven't eaten here in years because the service was so bad last time...wouldn't let us sub sides, slow, got apps and food at same time...but we gave it another shot. And while I still miss the original mountain resort and yacht club I could crawl home from it has turned into.more of a restaurant than a bar it seems. Shrimp jammers are still banging! Side salad was tasty and so were the chicken kabobs...glad we gave it another try

We wish we liked it. We really wish redbeard's had more to offer - we enjoy the location and the food selection, but the service is just unbelievably bad. to stand at a bar that is not busy and be totally disregared by the bartenders is unacceptable. they offer no personality, no eye contact, and barely any service at all. you're working for tips right? I'd rather over pay for drinks any where else just to have a bartender crack a smile. getting a drink quickly is only possible if you are one of the select few regulars.

Overpriced. This place is extremely overpriced for sub par food. Ordered two appetizers and a salad for 35 dollars. What a rip off and the food sucks
John Burns
The food here is normally very good, wings are great, love that they have AYCE crab leg specials. However I wish the owner would read these reviews and realize how bad the service is. Good food only goes so far when the service us so terrible people won't put up with it forever

Brutal service. Arrived at around 1:15 on a July Saturday. Dining room mostly empty, patio 2/3 full. Waited 10 min for orders to be taken, 10 min for beers to arrive, and were still waiting for food 45 min after ordering - and repeatedly being told it was "on the way." (Orders were nachos, BLT, burger, and caprese salad - not hard stuff). Wait staff seemed to hide, so as to avoid explaining the glacial pace in the kitchen. Just awful.

I love this place. The foods great, service is usually great until today. Our server was very rude, I asked if I could get my steak on my salad done medium and she replied by saying "I'll ask.". This is not the first time I've been here and asked for a medium steak and gotten it. It's servers like her that make me hate my experiences at great restaurants...she's short, fat, brunette, with glasses. Good luck if you get her.

Went to Redbeards for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised by a new menu (can't wait to try the kabobs!).. i am a frequent patron as i live very close and this was the first i saw the new selections... i had a build-your-own-burger and it was just what i needed ... keep up the great work everyone!

What can I say about this place... Good food, good drinks, and a pretty nice spot to meet a group of friends. Their weekly specials keep me coming back. The wait staff has been friendly and helpful too. Keep it up!

Brst bar food in this neighborhood. Always a couple of interesting micro brews on tap. Staff can be slow but decent service if they know you you tip.
Joellenicole7
Slow rude staff. Food is alright, typical bar food...the staff is definitely rude and slow...must get it from the owner...nothing else on mount washington like this except shiloh grill, and the wait staff isn't as rude there...just slow. I'm not sure if there's just an attitude mt washington waitresses have, but I don't like it, and I would go out of my way to eat there or shiloh.
WhatACrock
Owner was incredibly rude, accused us of "stealing" a table on the patio even though we were seated there. Waitresses and staff were mostly pleasant, I feel bad for the employees. Probably never going to this place again. Much better selection in Mt. Washington.
Ryan
Ehhhh. Redbeards has the benefit of little serious competition on shiloh street. the food is alright and so is the beer selection, but what really grinds my gears.... the arrogant ass of one of their bartenders. the asian guy that works there is a total prick. he seems to think he's really cool, he shouts when it's completely unnecessary, is inattentive and is an all around dick. redbeards is alright buy they're in serious trouble when shiloh grill opens. mmmm.... bacon.
Michael E. Loper
Nice spot for good service if you sit near the rest room...Food is great love the taco's...most of the time at the end of the bar you got to beg for service.
Mdepo11
Don't eat there if you're in a hurry.. Food is always good. Service is always slow....and sometimes just bad. I've been victim to "a new cook is back there" during a weekday lunch. Easily a 45 minute wait. Another time..."the food fell on the floor"...easily another 45 minute wait. At least they didn't serve it to us...or so I assume??
Ed Humphreys
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Wings are the BEST. Service is prompt. I like the way that you can walk in. Ask for the beer the wings.........get what you want. It's a beautiful life son. A beautiful life.

When i lived there. I live in Pittsburgh in the late 90's. I was a bartender and a cook at Redbeards and let me tell you, I miss that place A LOT. The food i prepared and served was truly amazing food. I lived on the wings and beef n' cheese sandwiches. The beer, ice cold ( we got ice from the cat named Jerry the Iceman) the regulars where great except for a few. I lived right across the street on Shiloh and being from California it was great to walk across the street when it was freezing out(i was wearing shorts all the time) If you get a chance, you should go and check it out. I give it 5 stars. And, they have Yuengling, which we don't have in California

Patio, Drinks and Great Food. What is there not to like about a cozy outdoor patio, great drink specials, and awesome pub food including great sandwiches and killer homemade soups? Every neighborhood needs a place like this! My only complaint would be that the service can be a little slow at times.
Louis Kroeck
The wings at Redbeard's were very good. A great crisp texture, well sized and well seasoned. I tried the standard hot as none of the other flavors really jumped off the page.

While it wasn’t the golden nugget I’m always looking for when I stop someplace like this, it’s certainly someplace that I would recommend to anyone popping through the neighborhood.
